Technical Instructions

The FACTNet website has absolute hyperlinks, not relative hyperlinks.

This means that one cannot merely download the site and upload it again and have it work for you. (Because every hyperlink will take you back to the actual FACTNet website.)

It will also not work if you place it on a CD.

To create a mirror of FACTNet one has to use the "Find & Replace" function in DreamWeaver or another similar program.

In the "Find" area place :

In DreamWeaver your screen would look similar to this:

To create the mirror, one does not need to create a special website for the mirror. If one already has one's own website then one can also make the mirror a sub-directory of the pre-existing website. 

What the zipped download does not include

1. This zipped download does not include the Discussion Board

This means that after one has run the "Find & Replace" function to get all hyperlinks aiming at your own site you will have to run it a second time to aim all the Discussion Board hyperlinks back to the actual FACTNet site.

2. This zipped download does not include the CGI-Bin

If you do not have your own search utility then it might be more elegant to aim it to http://www.factnet.org/Search.html . Which implies running the "Find & Replace" function again.

The person or organization who mirrors FACTNet is fully legally and financially responsible for the FACTNet mirror site that they create according to the laws of the country that they create the mirrored site in.
