I can only speak from the very limited knowledge I have of him (and that is one reading of his autobiography and parts of a couple other of his literature).

The guy has (apparently) reached both the highest spiritual heights and the lowest carnal lows. While achieving high states of consciousness and success in spiritual life, also has gone the opposite end and has lived a life of drug abuse, sexual depravity, immorality (as far as damaging people's lives from personal accounts).

In conclusion, he's a mixed bag of extreme ends. He's old now and appears scary (to me at least) with his big belly and dark glasses, but that's only his physical form. From my reading, his focus is on a type of devotional yoga (bhakti yoga) in which devotees give him total devotional service, and througth their close proximity (satsang or 'good company') he exchanges uplifting spiritual energy to them.

He's expirmental and has tried all types of ways to reach the highest happiness (on both spiritual and physical planes). I was never drawn to him but interested in authentic spiritual quests and he had one.

he's a scorpio - persons born under this sign tend to go to extreme ends like no other sign of the western zodiac. So his way fits his astrological influence.

Adi Da claims to be the Divine God appearing in the flesh as countless other gurus claim the same. I have read some of Adi Da's work and must say that he has some deep spiritual insights re the Descent of the Divine Spirit and the Baptism from above, being a gift from the Divine God as promised to us by Jesus Christ.

Adi Da is like most of humanity struggling with the two natures of man. Apostle Paul describes this state of being most accurately in his Epistles. A true born again creature has slaughtered the old man, the body of death, which is evil. God tells us: "None are good, not even a one". God alone can give us freedom from our body of death.

I recommend for everyone to stay clear of Adi Da and not join up with him. There is a benefit in reading some of his work, but don't be misled into following another struggling, sinking teacher.

The gate is narrow and many choose the broad one instead.
