Many Christian bookstores no longer carry books by Gwen Shamblin because she denies the doctrine of the Trinity (http://www.apologeticsindex.org/t10.html), which is one of the essential doctrines of the Christian faith (http://www.apologeticsindex.org/d32.html). Denying one or more essential teachings of the Christian faith places one outside the boundaries of the Christian faith (just like, say, taking away one of the essential ingredients of a Big Mac means you can no longer call it a Big Mac).
But yes, Christian Bookstores do carry lots of junk, including books from other authors who teach un-Biblical or extra-Biblical doctrines.
For some this is a matter of lack of discernment. For others, it's a matter of economic survival. The latter is due to the fact that many Christians lack the ability to discern between truth and error (see http://www.apologeticsindex.org/d01.html).
Regards,
Anton

I've even seen Wayne Dyer's books in Christian bookstores. He mentions Jesus occasionally, and talks about God (or "the divine" or even "the source"), but I find most of his writings to be humanistic.
Catholic books, too - even though many Christians differ with at least some Catholic doctrines that they consider to be man-made.

Being fat is not a sin.It is a decision.Eat too much or the wrong foods? You'll be fat.So what? 78% of adult Americans are overweight. We like our food.We like our tv's,computers etc.We don't like to exercise. So save it Gwen,we like food.Nowhere in the Bible does it say being fat is a sin.And being fat is not gluttony.

I agree with God's kids.Who cares if you're fat?
I don't! Gwen's saying being fat was a sin, was incorrect. It's not Biblical either. God created us to be exactly as we are. He loves us no matter how much we weigh.

Glutton
(Deuteronomy 21:20), Heb. zolel, from a word meaning "to shake out," "to squander;" and hence one who is prodigal, who wastes his means by indulgence. In Proverbs 23:21, the word means debauchees or wasters of their own body. In Proverbs 28:7, the word (pl.) is rendered Authorized Version "riotous men;" Revised Version, "gluttonous." Matthew 11:19, Luke 7:34, Greek phagos, given to eating, gluttonous.
Your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit. You would treat that temple with respect and not abuse it and cut your life short. While true that some people cannot help it I'm referring to the ones that do.
Gwen has lots of theological problems. None the least is taking scriptures out of context to find a way to apply it to what she wants to teach.
God loves us the way we are when we come to Him but that doesn't mean he desires us to stay that way either. I come to Him a sinner and I'm not sinless but I repent of my sins and seek to no longer do them. I'm not sinless but I sin less.

Glutony is a sin, sorry but it is. Do a word search in a concordance and you'll find it.
I'm sorry that Gwen Shamblin has gone off on her tangent about the trinity and other legalistic things she's teaching now at her Remnant church because, in general, I think the weight loss program she has is excellent. I went from 160 to 130 on it and felt great and didn't worry/obsess what I was going to eat anymore. I think a lot of churches have thrown the baby out with the bath water here.

I think it's guilt ridden. People overweight already feel bad about themselves. I don't like the "overeating is sin" thing.

Brightman,
Like it or not, glutony is a sin. Its listed as one of the seven deadly sins in the old testament.
This isn't something Gwen came up with on her own.
Like I said, go to an online bible study concordance and type in glutony. You'll see.
