I have a reason to believe this church is a cult. Can't prove it, but have my feelings. This is why.

I was dating a guy who attended this church, as well was friends with a couple who went to this church. They asked me to go to an event sponsored by this church. When I got there, the men (not my friends) were saying all women should be housewives, and should be submissive to all men. They were saying feminists were satanic, and were disobeying God. The leaders in this church are bringing up their daughters to be housewives, and not to have a career. Even the women's groups are focused on women being housewives. I told them I am a feminist, and they called me every bad name in the world. I told them they have the right to their opinion, and they told me I didn't have the right to my opinion because I was a woman. Needless, to say, my friends were told not to bring a satan worshipper like me. Funny, because I believe in Jesus, and don't like Satan.

Then, they went into racism. Not only are they sexists, but they are racists also. They informed me that African Americans were put on this planet to serve white people. Disgusting. They also said black people were automatically dumber than all white people. This bothered me.

In addition, they were telling people who to vote for (all right wing Republicans). They said anyone who voted for a liberal is voting for Satan.

I have stayed friends with those who originally took me to the this "church". Recently, however, I have been informed that my friends no longer want to be friends because this church told them not to. They keep pushing my friends to be brainwashed.

This church sure sounds like a cult to me. They also want all members to give all their money to them, and only associate with people in the church.

Sounds like you should follow your instinct and steer clear of this bunch. Sorry about losing your friends. They really need your prayers if they are willing to subject themselves to these people and end a friendship with you because you have a different opinion.

Well, they are certainly don't have a clear grasp of scripture by NO means.

The best defense, well, besides finding a healthy well-balanced church is to know the Bible yourself. It takes reading and STUDYING. I know, that bad word. lol But I also suggest a book "How To Read The Bible For All It's Worth" It shows how people fail to interpret scripture, proper methods for interpreting, etc. It gives you a good start on examining these ideas and comparing against scripture like the Bereans.

The Bible, mainly the new testament elelvates women to a state that wasn't ever heard of in previous time. "There is neither Jew nor Greek, male nor female". But you obviously see they have huge problems altogether.

When you let a church rule who you see, who your friends are, etc. they are a controlling group.

Of course they want you to give them as much money as you can. The Bible talks about these types of people.

I guess they never read about Jesus mingling with sinners. Sounds like Pharasees of the worst sort to me.

There are lots of good resources on controlling groups and also answers to these biblical issues.

If you need you can write me at:
nwmomike at hotmail.com

I use that one as I expect to get useless spam along with it. They have a spam guard that trashes most of it so I can live with it there.

To respond to the initial comment I myself am a youth member of this church. I am without a doubt greatly disturbed by the allegations made against my church. They are completely false. To say we are racist makes me sick to my stomach. As for women being house wives yes in the bible it says the wife is to submit to her husband and that her family come first. As for the balance between a career and her family, it is left to that couple's choice and needs as they seek to honor God. I for one can say that the church officials are surely not restraining their daughters from accomplishing a carreer. I can say this because I am a daughter of a church official and I have every intention of a carreer with my parents support and I hope to honor God as much as possible throughout my career. How you could misinterpret the teachings or the sayings of our church to such an extent is beyond me because our church strictly follows the bible. We do not add anything or take anything out for that matter. It saddens me that it has been two years since this comment and it has already mislead those who know nothing of our church for that length of time. I hope the individual who wrote the comment will make clearer judgments before making horrible and hurtful allegations against anyone or anything. I hope in the end this will clear the air so that people might know the truth.
