As the twelfth anniversary of the tragedy approaches I still find it hard to believe that it has been so long. Or that this was allowed to happen in America while most of the nation simply stood by and watched. There has been enough blame. It is time for healing. All were wrong to some degree. The question is can we now come together to remember ALL who died, ALL who were touched by this, and figure out what went wrong so that it will never, ever happen to anyone again?

There is a book, "People of the Lie/ the hope for healing human evil" by M. Scott Peck, MD. In chapter 6 he tells about how the army commissioned him to investigate the Mylai massacre of the Vietnam war and come up with a way to prevent it in the future. It addresses your question. It is an excellent book through and through.
Take care, God bless you, Doug

Hi Doug,
I'll be back on the ball soon, dealing with this odd, odd, cat scratch thing?
Still have a fever, this is really strange?
Prayers,
Jeffrey

Lots of commemoration in the news of the 10th anniversary of one bomb going off in OKC.
Not a lot about the gassing of a bunch of women and children two years earlier.
The difference is that one tragedy was the result of a couple of nutcases with no morals, while the other was done by government order.

What went wrong is David Koresh should of walk out the door, & given up his Mass of illegally
purchased weapons, & no one would have died. I think that is the lesson to be learned. We have a person who claimed he was jesus returned,& thought he was above the law. Yes you can put some blame on the governments patients, but
It was David that Controlled the outcome.

Hi, I had just a few questions,
Was David K. a humble , meek person?
Was he considered by the Davidians to be beyond reproach ?
Was there a standard of Holiness?
Was he prone to prophesies and revelation?
Is there anyone left who knew him with a close personal relationship?
If so I would like to know what his demeanor was like.
Thanks

There are plenty of people who knew him. Finding them is the difficulty. The most vocal few have been those who left well before the seige, who had a personal dispute against David, and who made claims of horrific child abuse against him to international authorities (these claims were never substantiated by any agency but continue to be passed about as fact). There were close to 140 people inside Mt. Carmel on the morning of 2/28/93 - there were nine survivors on 4/19/93 - there were 82 Davidians who died (plus two stillborn infants delivered spontaneously as their mothers burned to death). That leaves a whole lot of people unaccounted for - and as near as I can figure, there doesn't seem to be a thorough listing anywhere of those who left during the seige. They would be the best people to talk to in regards to trying to understand what the overall mentality inside that building was - why they chose to leave - why others chose to remain - what David was like before and during the seige... Good luck. The official survivor's website is http://start.at/mtcarmel so you may find something there.

branchdavidianchild,
I've been more than impressed by your postings. It's hard to imagine what you've gone through, the friends you've lost, and the horrific way in which they were lost. My deepest sympathies go out to you.
Your gracious comments speak volumes as to the character of Branch Davidians. I've been privileged to speak with several current and former Branch Davidians, and each such experience has been positive. I find it difficult to equate Branch Davidians with the wild-eyed radical nutcase stereotype we've seen portrayed by the government and media.
I'm troubled that, some twelve years after the government's assault at Mt. Carmel Center, that there can still be so many vindictive attacks against David Koresh and the Branch Davidians. It never seems to end, but then there seems to be no shortage of religious bigotry.
This site seems to have attracted some of the most hateful religious bigots on the internet. There's an article that does a good job of addressing this problem, and it's at http://hushmoney.org/Waco_Branch_Davidians.htm

kirkguardian you ought to check out www.sevenseals.com (http://www.sevenseals.com) there are a few on there that claim they get their knowledge from the new chosen vessal whom some seem to think is Renos Avraam They are quite argumentive and aggressive. Cultlike? Why I would say yes I do pray for them to come to know Jesus as savior though

I met David Koresh on two occasions and thought he was a loud mouth , obnoxious, "Know It All" , White Trash, arrogant Sociopath with all of the charisma of Homer Simpson. I once bet him $10 that he couldn't shut up for for ten minutes without saying a word and he lost that bet.He thought he had a Direct Hotline to God but all he did was commit Statutory Rape with underage girls which was proven conclusively from DNA tests conducted after the fire which showed he was the Biological father of 17 children. He was not a very nice guy but there are still those who believe in the so called "message" of Biblical Word Salad that a wife stealing, child molesting, cop killing, sociopathic ninth grade dropout gave them.

Dear Dondi,
I don't knw what a CV is. But there are a lot of Branch Davidians who are not allowed to smoke, drink or bang their girlfriends before they are married which is why they get hitched at 16 years old just so the guys can get some pussy. They also have the highest Divorce Rate in the world because of this. I think they should all smoke a couple of cigarettes, drink a few beers and CHILL OUT so the next time a White Trash Mentally Challenged Ninth Grade dropout comes along and says he is Jesus Christ then maybe they will be able to resist his bull****" Biblical Word Salad" just so he can have sex with their 10 year old daughters. That guy was a real ******* and I am glad that he is dead.

Here is a little poem I read about David Koresh-
David Koresh was Evil and Bad
His bull**** Theology was "Biblical Word Salad"
All the suckers said "David go ahead"
"You can take my wife and 10 year old daughter to bed"
Then the whole world was amazed,
When he hid behind his 17 bastard kids for 51 days,
Then he got drunk and lit a barbeque ,
There was only cooked meat, not vegetarian that day on the menu!!!
