ninteyfive statements
nailed to the door
he couldn't see Jesus anymore

coins in the coffers
a soul out of pergatory
diminished deity

layer upon layer
coverd the truth
relics lifted up

common people cant understand
the simple truth
it wasnt enough

lust for revelation
there must be more knowlage
youll be just like Him

who else needs to die
HE said it is finished
but they make Him just one of many

diminished deity
patronized nonsence
a greater price to be paid

nintey five statements
nailed to the door
1517... Martin Luther couldnt take it anymore

happy reformation day!!!!

why should I care about the truth
such a fine line between heaven and hell
they know for sure
but does it really matter what anyone thinks

Its not what was said
so much more that is done
what really matters, is it the truth
or just what were told

it gets so thick, clings to the skin
stain and stench doesnt wash off
and they say its not there
what do I know

if you dont look like them
or smell quite the same
you cant be a part
of what thier all about

its the same ol story
seen it before
nothing else matters
unless you play the game

nobody wins
its all a loss
cant see the truth
what would that do

Thanks, Calv!

It's interesting to go back and read the Ninety-Five Theses (as on the Project Wittenberg site (http://www.iclnet.org/pub/resources/text/wittenberg/luther/web/ninetyfive.html), for example) - they're very narrowly focused on the issue of indulgences and intended only for an audience of university students and professors, being titled at the time "Disputation of Doctor Martin Luther on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences." Today's reader finds them full of obscure theological and historical references, and perhaps wonders how they could have touched off the Reformation. Nevertheless, the implicit underlying theological principles did lead to the reclamation of the pure gospel of God's free forgiveness of sins through faith alone in Christ alone after it had been overlaid for centuries by man's systems of works-righteousness.

That reclamation is necessary in every generation and in fact in every individual believer, for it is man's nature to seek to establish his own righteousness instead of submitting to God's righteousness. The gospel is constantly threatened by systems of works-righteousness, whether they be from tradition-worshippers (of either the judaizing or Romanizing/Eastern Orthodox schools), from enthusiasts and fanatics, or from rationalizing individualists. All except tradition-worshippers (at least of the Romanizing/Eastern Othordox kind) were in evidence among our fellow co-religionists at Community Chapel, and it is important to realize that looking forward.<hr width=75% size=2><center><table><tr><td><font face="Georgia"><font size="-1">More Chapel reflections</font></font> (http://home.comcast.net/~sr_born/Chapel/index.html)</TD><TD><font face="Georgia"><font size="-1">Steve Born</font></font></TD><TD><font face="Georgia"><font size="-1">My Home page</font></font> (http://www.steveborn.com/)</td></tr></table></center>
