I am a former member of this church/cult also. God help those people that are still there. I'm afraid they will not listen to us, I have tried my best. They have been brainwashed and deceived and someday they will find this out on their own. It is good that you post and warn others though. If we can't get the ones that are already there out, then maybe we can atleast help keep more from joining.

I don't know. I know that our Calvary Baptist was ran like a cult but, not ALL Calvary Baptist Churches are ran this way. It all depends on the "preacher". Our's was IFB ( Independant Fundamental Baptist), some are not IFB. Southern Baptists' seem to be more liberal, which is a good thing.

Liberal???? That is what is wrong with America. God is not liberal it is one way or no way. I belong to a IFB and we do and say as the bible tells us. The flesh of man has allowed us to become so liberal. Cult????? When people don't agree with Gods word then they want to become liberal. HaHa.... I refuse to let a fleshly man tell me how to live, I read the wondeful word of God, attend church services by a obediant, faithful God fearing man. Liberalism will be the death of christianity.

Do you know anything about Calvary Baptist Church in Butler, Pa. ??? If not, why are you even responding to this post ? BTW, if you are in an IFB Church then, you do indeed let a man tell you how to live.

No I know nothing about the Calvary Baptist Church in PA, I was responding to your blatant liberalism. Its a shame that you can use christian and liberal in the same sentence. Not that you have done it , but that is where you are aiming.

arron, I never said ALL IFB Churches are cults. This Church I was in was ran like a cult by a man who wanted power, money, and control. I'm sure there are many IFB Churches that are not cults.

As a very young child I attended the only church in our town other than Catholic and Methodists. It was called Calvery Baptist Church. I learned a great deal of scripture there, the adults were wonderful people and still are. When we moved to CA we attended a Free Will Baptist Church and I learned so much scripture there is has stayed in my mind all these years. The people there were wonderful. My grandmother took us. I will always be grateful to her for that. As a teenager we went to Methodist Youth fellowship, which was a social gathering of young people. Those people were all wonderful too. I have heard of no scandals at any of those places. There seems to be a problem with judging all Christian churches by one section of members.
Maybe that is why I am now not a member of any denomination. The Bible teaches us to 'stay away from them'.

Maybe that is why I am now not a member of any denomination. In this day and age, I believe it is important to have a question list (taken from scripture) for ouselves before joining. My #1 question is always, "do I have to be baptized in this church to become a member?" So far they have all said yes. I don't believe we need to be rebaptized unless we believe our first baptism was not what Holy Scripture teaches: First, accepting, embracing or believing that Christ is the Son of God, asking that our sins be forgiven, and that baptizing is a public (not necessarily with church "members", but other believers, testimony. Every church wants to claim authority, which leads to Power and greed.
I want to 'Give God the Glory'. People will know me for my 'fruits', not for the socalled fruits of some organization they can 'cling to the tailcoat of'. Each of us will be judged. Your church will not be standing there for you. "It is appointed man once to die, after death, the judgement."

I attended an Independant Fundametal Baptist Church in Howell NJ called Open Door. I have very little family and the idea of being part of the "Family of God" held great appeal. I am a wife, a mother of two girls, and I was a nurse. I say was because after attending this church every Sunday morning, Sunday night, Wednesday evening, and going on visitation every saturday morning, I soon had no time to go to work. Soon I quit my job and worked at the Christian School there as a volunteer and I was at that church seven days a week. After a while, I didn't really know who I was anymore. The Pastor believes that he is responsible to give an account for all the church members actions at the Judgement seat of Christ and tries to control his members entire lives. What woke me up was the day the girls and women had a meeting and the pastors daughter told us how to dress down to our underware! Long loose skirts to the ankles, sock with sandles, (no bare toes please), shirts no lower than the collar bone, with sleeves. If anyone violated the dress code, the other women would talk about the violator like she was a piece of trash! The "world" is a wicked place, seperation from the "world" was encouraged. And there was some other really strange ideas too. For example, it was taught that Santa Claus was wicked because he took the glory of Christmas away from Christ. The preacher said that if you re-arranged the letters, Santa spells Satan! If you didn't tithe, you were headed for financial disaster, and when you had money trouble, you should give MORE so that God could bless you for your generousity! Faithfulness to services was everything. Parents who stayed home with sick children were ridiculed and if you came to church with a sick child in your arms, you were praised for your dedication. I was so stupid to ever get involved but I really love God and I was kind of alone in the world with two little girls and my husband was working so much that he was gone alot.
The out come is even sadder. I am no longer a member, I left after I began to suffer from extreme attacks of major depression. I am still unable to work, I am in therapy. I have gone to support groups, and I have been in and out of the hospital. I am getting better now and I just want to say that not all Baptist Churches are like that but the ones that are cults can really destroy lives. It is a really serious form of mind control that goes on that can really cause alot of harm.

I didn't come up with this and it is meant to be a joke on a bumper sticker:
"The only thing wrong with babtists is that they didn't hold them underwater long enough."

I have nothing against Infant baptism I have even told a Baptist church member my beliefs
of course I have nothing against a believers baptism as well..The picture i see is a beautiful
one a Infant baptised aside a believer just shows that our salvation is a free gift from God
and nobody can do anything to earn or deserve
