A couple of quick questions that don't make sense to me:

1) What does a tree that grows strong and straight have to do with the sun being darkened? I can't seem to make the connection.

2) Why would a tree that grows near the water dry up and die? It would seem to me that the tree would be doing very well because of its close proximity to the water.

Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, the writers of Proverbs used a great deal of metaphors and similes. These made a lot of sense (example: A nagging woman is like a dripping faucet.)

Unfortunately, your similes do not make sense. That forces me to wonder if they are indeed inspired by the Holy Spirit, or if they are inspired by your dislike for Mark.

Just some thoughts.

BTW: The proverbial analogy of the dripping faucet
and the contentious woman, has long been one of
my favorites, and it's reference, to this case,
is not lost on me.

I remember Hobart periodically saying that
one had to laugh to keep from crying.
This is one of those cases.

This is my problem with RELIGIOUS people,
and WHY I don't lump all of them together.

There is a HUGE difference between people
who KNOW GOD and want to have a living relationship
with Him, and those who have memorized His Word,
yet twist it to fit their own agendas.

One thing about the Word, is that it has to be approached with
clean hands and a pure heart. You cannot approach it with
an agenda to promote, trying to find ways to utilize it for your purposes.

BTW: Mark, I really don't care if you like the Stooges,
or if you had an illicit affair anyway. It's moot to me.
Jesus is a whole lot bigger than all that.
Actually, whether they are true or not,
it all seems pretty tame to me.
Jesus has forgiven me for a lot more than a 3 Stooges skit,
whom I like, by the way.
Incidentally, when my father died a few years back,
I got his boxed Stooge collection.
It sits today, with the rest of my collection.

I had a talking parrot. The funny thing about those animals is
that you can bust a gut trying to teach them something,
and then out of the blue, they come up with something
that they may have heard only once or twice. Sometimes,
it is relevant, and when it is, it is really hilarious.

Let's pick a topic......

I vote for this one:

Can a Christian have a demon,
and where is that exactly, in chapter and verse?

In my mind, that is part of general theology,
where one has to understand the nature of 3D space vs.the spiritual realm.
I understand that the Gadarene demoniac had a legion of demons,
and I understand that, however, at the time he was not saved, etc.
So then the fact that spirits do not take up space, as we think of it,
a multitude of spirits can then reside in a host body.
OOoOOooOOOoOO...that is SCARY......seriously!!!
The reason I am posing this question, is because I am debating
this issue with some other non-charismatic believers,
who argue that if one is filled with the Holy Spirit,
HOW can other spirits reside there? I don't have chapter and
verse to quote, or an example to give where a saved and filled believer
receives deliverance from a demonic spirit.
The closest I come to this, is Mary Magdalene ( Luke 8 )
who was delivered of seven devils.
However, it is unclear, as to whether she was saved prior to that.
Also, the child of a unamed jewish follower, ( Matt 17 )
whose child has epileptic seizures.
...and I really don't recall, ANY of the original 12, Paul, or any other
believer mentioned in the NT, receiving deliverance of any kind.
One would think that there would be at least ONE example,
about somebody receiving deliverance.

What I am saying here, is that when one takes a number of
references, that may only infer something, and puts
them all together to form a doctrine with, regardless
of whether WE can discern that to be spiritually true,
we really have no sound evidence, scripturally in terms of
chapter and verse to make that stand.

What do you think?

Wow,

I take a day off to go golfing, and the board turns into a free-for-all! How can a person sit and post every 5 or 10 minutes all day? I guess it must be someone with no life, no children and no wife (maybe because he spent more time on the computer than with his wife?!?)

On to a topic brought up by Hombre. I believe I posted this question about 6 or 8 months, but it got lost in all the excitement and some prophecy that went something like this - "Woe unto you! Even as the sun sets in the evening, so shall I like my eggs scrambled in the morning." I never really understood it, so I'm not sure if it came true or not.

Based upon my study of scripture, of Satan and his demons, etc., I believe it is impossible for a Christian to be possessed by a demon. A Christian can only be oppressed. When a person received Jesus as his personal savior, the Holy Spirit permanently indwells this person. Light and darkness can't occupy the same space. As such, if you have Christ, through the Holy Spirit, dwelling within you, a demon can't also dwell with you. The alternative, however, is that the demon can oppress you and attack you on a constant basis. I would think this could be almost as bad as being possessed.

Since this is an FA thread, I'll go ahead and concede that my belief contradicts what Dr. Freeman taught. Have remember being part of deliverance services as a kid, and it was pretty freaky. The only conclusion I can come up with is that if the person was truly possessed and was delivered, then they were not saved at the time.

As Mark stated in a previous post, this is a topic that is debatable. It should not be a topic that divides us, because it is not a "kingdom issue." By kingdom issue, I mean that it is not something that would keep someone out of heaven (such as denying the atonement or the deity of Jesus).

Enough said from me, so feel free to agree or disagree with my interpretation.

Duncan you are absolutely right. A demon cannot occupy a vessel that is currently occupied by the Holy Spirit.

Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." Anyone who teaches that a demon can overpower the Holy Spirit and inhabit a saint needs to go back to The Word and study. Their method of teaching is way off, and in the long run is detrimental to the Christians who are rightly dividing The Word. However, we as Christians are commissioned by God to -

Watch, stand fast in the faith, be brave, be strong. Let all that you do be done with love
I Corinthians 16:13 – 14

Remember that Jesus Christ, of the seed of David, was raised from the dead according to my gospel, for which I suffer trouble as an evildoer, even to the point of chains; but the word of God is not chained. Although we do not approve of the teaching method, we must not behave as they do. We must step up to the plate in our ministry and get the correct Message out. There are many out there proclaiming Christianity, and we must work harder to unveil the demons:
