Post Maranatha Gainesville

Greetings all!

In the mid to late 90s I went to a large Charismatic church in Gainesville. After finally leaving I began to read up on spiritual abuse. Eventually I learned about the Maranatha story. The things that I read were so similar to what I went through it almost freaked me out. Submission, Dating "revelations", put it on the shelf, finances and all kinds of other stuff.

This leads me to my question:

Where did most of the post Gainesville Maranatha people wind up? Does anybody know?

Just curious if it was my old church.

daytime, there was a church in Gainesville which Maranatha covenanted with. This church had a schoo. I forget now what it was called. Do you remember, John?

Actually there were a couple of churches that did that. One even allowed us to meet in their sanctuary during the week. I can't recall the names though.

Hey everyone, didn't a lot of people from Gainsville end up back in EN or Bethel ? Didn't Eric Holmberg go there with his Reel To Reel Ministries and end up in Bethel ? And didn't he recently get out of EN ? . . . .What about it Anne ??

upcase, the Holmbergs did move to TN and were part of Bethel. I don't know when or why they left. They now attend a Presbyterian Church of Amerrica as do a few other former Maranathans.

David Cassidy might have had some influence there. He pastors a PCA church in Austin.

I think I saw the website for the church that David pastors. Isn't it Presbyterian? How does that happen?

He started Cornerstone here, left for a while, came back and started another church, the left.

In his letter to the congregation he said he is oriented toward starting new works and the congregation in Austin is building and growing. David started going to PCA conferences some time ago.

I was in G'ville with Lee. He did all the landscaping at the house there. I lost track of him when I went to Columbia, SC. Anyone...anyone..does anyone else know??

I LOVE Rachel!!!!!!! She is one of the sweetest people I ever knew! We lived at the center..I can see her now...with her glasses on!! Ask her is she remembers Patty. Give her a hug and kiss for me!

Well it was early days, I was at your wedding and
remember well a trip we all took to Charleston. I lived with B in the staff house. I moved to another Maranatha Church after about 1 1/2 years. S and V were my frends. You know me and always encoraged me.

Miltie..the B is not Buster. I was there with him, too. We were together from the beginning of S.C. church.

Greetings all my curious friends! It was indeed a young man from my past that has spent the last 15 years on the Mission field. This man has a genuine love and zeal for the Lord. I consider him part of my extended family..he has been and is a wonderful blessing to me!

This is one of the wonderful things about the FactNet site. Re-connecting with friends and loved ones from your past. I do not know who he is "connected" to - EN or another church, all I know is that he is my brother in the Lord. As with all of you, this is our common bond. What jrj calls "this wonderful body of Christ."

Congrats, Nik. There is something really healing about reconnecting with people you were in the trenches with - or faced in opposing trenches evern - and finding out that you've grown and healed and overcome and forgiven and that it's all good. That's a work of God, for sure.

Hi guys, yes I was A maranthaite but did not
go with Rice and the boys into EN. We all had to rethink our believes and values when our world of marantha fell apart. Gods been good. Nicknak was a true friend to many of us there, all was not in vain P you and others put some great stuff in us .But oh the crazy things we did in those days we all were so sure of ourselves.

oh_my - thank you for your kind words. I really do not deserve them. MCM brought out the worst in me so often. I was too religious, to authoritairan..just dumb. Please forgive me for everything I ever did to hurt or offend. I was a man pleaser...just blind and ignorant.
Life has a way of training you though. I realize that people really do have problems that are beyond their control. Not everything is the devil! I have learned, I am more mellow, I can actually see gray now instead of black and white. I miss my friends in MCM. I am so happy to have the opportunity to reconnect and tell them I love them!
