View Full Version : Champions for Christ Moved to Indianapolis

Champions for Christ appears to have moved from Northern Virginia (Metro Morning Star) to Indianapolis (http://www.championsfc.com/#place), sharing the same address as Every Nation Indianapolis (http://www.everynationindy.com/information.html).

CFC had been in Austin for many years but moved to NoVA in 2004 when Brett Fuller took over CFC's presidency from Greg Ball.

There's no indication on CFC's new website who any of its current board members or principals might be, not even on its conference page which is where typically they had been posted at least within the last couple of years. However, Rice Broocks' blog (http://www.ricebroocks.com/news.html) from earlier this year stated that Indy's senior pastor, Dave Jamerson, is CFC's executive director.

Strange, UL ... wouldn't surprise me that Brett Fuller's stepped down pending his appointment to the Bush administration. But why would they pull up stakes and move to Indy?

from the CFC website:

“Champions for Christ is one of a multitude of sports ministries that exists around the world with the goal of seeing the sports world impacted for Christ and the world impacted through sports ministry. Therefore, we make it our aim to respect these other ministries, support their efforts, and have a spirit of cooperation as we all seek to work together to see Jesus Christ lifted up and glorified around the world.” (emphasis mine)

Yeah, right. See the following:

But why would they pull up stakes and move to Indy?<!-/quote-!><hr size=0></blockquote>

Good question, but if the pastor of the Indy church is going to have more day-to-day oversight of the ministry as executive director than Brett Fuller as president, then it's not unprecedented as they've moved 2 or 3 times before (if you count going back to pre-MSI days).

Also, I believe they've been doing more out of the Indy-based CFC chapter, first with NCAA basketball coaches through Nations of Coaches (http://www.nationsofcoaches.com/nocs/), which isn't technically an EN ministry but has several CFC/EN people on board and seems to be EN led... they look like they're based in Indianapolis, as is Champions Academy (http://www.championsacademy.org), another ministry led by some of the Indy-based CFC leaders. However, last year the National Coaches Conference (http://www.fansonly.com/schools/nabc/sports/m-baskbl/spec-rel/050306aad.html) was held in Jacksonville, another city with an EN church with an active CFC chapter.

Hi Moose, yes, I've seen both of those cases. The one filed in trademark court is particularly interesting, since it seemed that CFC came very close to arguing that it should be awarded the exclusive use of the word "champions" with regards to ministry and the court didn't exactly agree with their assessment.

Correction... Nations of Coaches is incorporated in Delaware, and according to Guidestar is headquartered in Overland Park, KS.

In the "About Me" section:

Also, I am an artist and musician stuck in an athletic body.

Dang that humility thing is so hard when you are an EN Pastor!!! Does he know how pretentious this sounds?

Isn't Tallahassee where 'nasso is?

Either pretentious or a wannabe. Sad either way.

No, Phil Bonasso is in Jacksonville. Or at least, that's where his house is.

Anyway, it seems based on things I'm being told by some offlist that they're not moving permanently to Indy but to Tallahassee - that Indy is instead where they're holding conferences. BTW, while the Tallahassee EN church is not a former MCM church operating under its old corporate charter like several others in EN, it is an outgrowth of the former MCM-CFC chapter at Florida State and so does have some roots going back to MCM days.

If anyone is interested, some of the church's recent sermons podcasted on iTunes are relevant to EN's "working theology" including the dominion mandate thing which is still being preached &amp; taught.

I'm a musician stuck in an aging body. Today I go for a much needed eye exam and probably will get fitted for bifocals. Though I may splurge and see if bifocal contacts actually work. But the good thing about my glasses is that they hide the bags and wrinkles around my eyes. Either way, I need help reading music and pretty much everything else, plus when I hold things away from my face to read then it's too far away to see! Choices, choices.

I guess as long as I don't develop arthritis in my hands I'm in good shape. Arthritic knees are a good excuse for others to carry your equipment.

Dust, I just could not believe that when I read it! I have seen these characters in the gym--they stare at themselves in the mirror constantly during workouts. I guess that is why it is just me, the dog, and my Ipod on the jogging route now. Made me sick.

Uly, I tried the progressive lenses, couldn't get used to them, and now am in trifocals! Talk about looking like an old dude!!

ULY: I'm a musician stuck in an aging body. http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/rofl.gif

I am still able to just buy those 1.00 reading glasses at the drugstore, but if I ever got stranded on a dessert island, I'd shave my head before I let the grey show. hahahaha

Matt: I'll top you. It's me, the iPod and TWO dogs on the jogging route. One of them is just as old as me in dog years...we need the newer dog to keep us going.

Potentially the only reason they may move it to Indianapolis is because Ron miller descipled Corey Simon who now plays for the colts. It may be another way for them to gain ground and initially take over the colts' chaplain services. This is how Ron became the Philadelphia eagles chaplain because Simon used to play for them

NEWSFLASH

CFC's 2005 Form 990 (http://204.203.220.33/EINS/742588832/742588832_2005_02B2B87F.PDF) is now available for public inspection.

Look at the salaries. Look at how much money they lost. Look at the amount in securities they sold/liquidated. Look at the amount of money donated in support of "other organizations" which are not specified on the form btw. Look at the checkboxes in section V-A (top of page 6).

Certainly validates some of the things "leghorn" posted some time back.

The West

Ever heard of a golden handshake? Read the Greg Ball golden thread.

I see Broocks is still creaming off the whole scheme as well. Ho! Ho! Ho! Prosperity all around. 45K for doing f-all!
Even Phil Bonnasso gets a cut from the trough. Probably golf fees. Of course, he is champion golf instructor.

If you add up the multiple income streams that people like Fuller and Broocks are earning its no wonder why the golden trough is emptying so fast.

This all in the name of Jesus Christ!

Ho! Ho! Ho!

ulyankee, there are so many posters here that I respect and appreciate (even some I butt heads with). But I would really like to thank you for all your work. Your research is essential
and should not be underestimated.

I've been to this Indy EN church a couple times. In fact it was the first EN church I ever went to. I ended up going with my bro and a couple friends. This was at least 3 years ago- I could't say for sure-maybe further back. This is the first place I was prayed over- they must spoke destiny into me! I don't know- all I can do it type now- was this what they prayed for me? Little did I know that the guy who was praying for me he was looking around the room and his watch. I stood there wondering what my brother had gotten me into! heheh Aw man. It's so crazy now to think about this. My bro gets so mad to think about it but after a while we joke around about it. My bro is a good man. I love him. He wanted me so much to understand destiny and purpose. He wanted so bad to conquer the world. Someone in that church told him to stay where he was and he did. This is what makes him the maddest. Wow. this is where I got my start. I think he got his in Cali- the one that fell apart.

Sorry, last I checked God didn't say the Every Nation Cult were the "chosen, the ones, the way, the truth,(almost choked on that one) the light (dimly lit)

zadieboy,
I can see that you are really hurt and angry. Most of us here have been through that. Several here have given significant money toward something they thought was of God but learned differently. Some here have had their hearts broken with the self-serving deceptions. I can't explain why this is still going on and that God didn't put an end to it a long time ago. But, for some reason He does nothing. The fact that Steve is mentioned in this case and not Rice just shows me that Rice has insulated himself well from any direct line of legal responsibility while still keeping his "spiritual authority" over the whole mess. There are so many people more directly involved the behaviours of Champions for Christ than Steve M. I hope and pray that you see a justice that many of us did not see. I also hope and pray that you get your peace back with our without justice like many of us had to do. God bless.

http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/smile.gifIc20 Thanks for the counsel. Gosh, it helps just to know I'm not alone. I have wondered if I have lost my sanity recently. I have felt so much pain over the actions of this cult and it's counsel to others. I tried to google the www.truthinternationalinc.com (http://www.truthinternationalinc.com) and couldn't get to it. I left copies of the lawsuit I filed at many attorney's offices today while in Indy. I also left it at several televison stations. You know God will take our pain, our experience, and use it to help others I suppose. Just like he did with you. You know I spnt a night in the Indianpolis jail over these people. I have been prosecuted to two not guilty jury verdicts and the good thing is when I drove two hundred and sixty miles to surrender to that jail for the crimes I didn't commit; Well I got down on my knees with the person I shared the cell with and he accepted Jesus right then and there! I'm a Gideon who loves jail minstry and loves Jesus. Gosh, I just want to go where he sends me.

I'm not a professional athlete. I was a drop dead dope addict who speaks to schools with D.A.R.E. officers because that's how <font color="ff0000"><font size="+2">BIG</font>our God is!

http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/new.gif<font color="ff0000"> How can we all make a difference so that fewer of our brothers and sisters will be harmed by the EN organization? I am the plaintiff. I want to be principaled in my prosecution of this lawsuit. What I have been through has been a nightmare and I know I am not alone. I'm not a professional athlete and I'm not rich. I am, however, somewhat persistent. I want my life to count for the Kingdom. While I believe thie female defendant in this lawsuit is a real professional victim type, </font><font color="aa00aa">THERE IS NO RIGHT WAY TO DO A WRONG THING.</font><font color="ff0000"> I'm a single parent male with three great kids and one adorable blonde haired blue eyed one year old grandbaby and I don't give mine away! EN, when God's in it, He wins! All the time! So we have some professional athletes in EN hey? How about having some professional athletes on the right team? You know I do jail ministry. When I am fortunate enough to walk through jails and witness for Jesus I often pose the question, "How many of you guys like to fight?" When the many hands are generally raised I tell them, "You're on the wrong team!" I spent much of my life on the wrong team. So Colts players, I'm a Colts fan. I rooted for you when I live in the heart of Bear country. I believed you were winners. Jeff Saturday and Hunter Smith, I still believe you're winners. I also believe you're playing on the wrong team at Every Nation. The principals are wrong. The message is wrong. The leadership is wrong. I fight this fight not because of who I am but because of who He is.

Hello Maranatha,

I was just coming to see what I posted yesterday. Yea that is what I was thinking or trying to say, but after further thought I wanted to come back and retract it. I read some place else someone who posted to Zadie to persist and stay strong with courage. He was also told that it appeared that he was frustrated about his experience with EN and I saw that I understood that concern. In fact I was a bit frustrated yesterday and was posted to by Jonese- on a different topic- and it was good that he did. SO basically I believe I spoke out of line . No matter what first glance told me, but I'm gonna sit back on this one.

I think my main concern was that I-or-we don't get carried away or drug into trying to show Zadie we understood him by speaking about EN with contempt. But then I see that others here have actually tried and have succeeded in helping others box in their experiences at EN by speaking thoughtfully to them.

All I can say is for you guys to keep it up- it only makes sense that you "formers" come with sound advice for others about this.

Hey Zadie- hope this helps. I was at EN once too. I'm busy, too busy some days, and can only hope for a day off.... good to see you're out- and consider being out of EN as a day off! =)
