Wow. The title of this thread is a very involved pun....Either that or it means this thread is reserved for cowlike men (a redundancy is ever there was one http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/wink.gif ) and we women have to start our own thread.

Ahh, but the glorious fun of the down hill races...surely some of you folks did this as children? You gather with a few friends, hopefully an unwary city-slicker or two, lay down at the top of a large hill... Above the cow pasture...then start rolling down to see who "wins". The definition of "winner" depending on if it's your first such race and think that "winning" means making to the bottom first. The older players, having previously made this error, find that coming in "Last" sometimes provides a more lasting satisfaction...that and staying downwind of the "winners" for the rest of the day, or until the cows leave the pond & creek open for a wash and a rub with some fresh mint....lots and lots of fresh mint... http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/rofl.gif

LOL...electric fences, cows. I'm recalling how there was a certain age when I looked at the cows standing in the lower end of the pond and decided that swimming in the pond was not a good idea anymore...which probably explains why there was a continual "age" progression among the cousins as we "transitioned" to go arrowhead or rock hunting instead...
Utertarians??? Hmmm.... If I didn't have to go to Chucky Cheese (Yes TORTURE) I'd comment... as it is I'm going to go annoy a giant mouse and step lightly from this thread without mentioning that heifers are usually retained as happy productive creatures & well, steers... STEAK. Yes, amazing, I changed my mind...right in the middle of the sentence...appalling woodland creature that I am! I'm sure the Mouse will ensure I suffer...they are young you know...they try and encourage you to buy stuff...waving them away does not a bit of good... http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/crazy.gif I'd rather stay here...alas the chariot awaits...later folks.

I've got the coolest Tacoma 4 door. Off road package. Red. It is killing me to think I am going to turn it over to SteveO in 6 months to USE, not own.
Told Allie I am going to get a hooptie (Alabama urban term for a 'beater" old vehicle) just to get me to work...she thinks I am so gallant. I have secretly been hitting that 'yota website and looking at his big brotha though...how do I tell her a new Tundra is a hooptie? Any utertarians want to dis the sista and tell me how to pull this one off?

Matt, hubby works for toyota manufacturing. We get discounts ! Just got my toyota Matrix. I love it ! With a price of a second hand toyota.
Toyota Tundra is made in indiana. Toyota Tacoma came from here California. Toyota Sequioa from Texas.
Hubby's line is the Tundra. He fix the robots. They scrape the truck with one small flaw. They make sure its perfect.
lablady2
09-24-2006, 12:03 AM
Matt: I hope I can help.
If Ms. Allie is the half the woman I think she is (smart, talented, funny, a nurse), she is secretly coveting a Tundra.
It's good that she thinks you're being gallant. Keep that up so she'll feel sorry for you. Occasionally, (when you know she's watching) go outside and pat your Tacoma, then take a hanky from your pocket, dab your eyes and blow your nose. Remember, nurses are care-takers and fixers to the point of being pathological.
More later. That's enough for one lesson. Here's your tip of the day: The goal is to make the Tundra her idea. You, of course, will be protesting until the minute you drive it home.
So much work, so little time.

Wildwood: "LOL...electric fences, cows."
Ohhh the cruelty of a young Mad Hatter. Told 'nasso and brother to grab that wire and press down on it so we could hop over the fence. (It will send a jolt down both shoulder sockets and out your fingers.) We all actually had a good laugh. One of the good times.

I see the problem...I should've suspected this before...you all are not CHEVY people! Well, at least there's no mention of FORDS yet...I know its coming...I'm going to get my Dale Jr hat & start praying for deliverance... Possibly this is why I was never told the group I was in was Maranatha...hmmm, I see now that perhaps my wrong turn was getting into a Pinto many, many years ago... Finally a logical explanation.
And my dog is staring at me now...wondering why I'm laughing like a lunatic...(first reason...my husband is taking the daughter & friend home...obviously I'm NOT in the car). Second reason, CRUEL HATTER...FUNNY FUNNY Hatter! Why is it that some people will insist on touching an electric fence...just to "see" if it's electric. You probably could've got one of them to grab that wire even though they knew it was electric... Oh,YA THINK IT WILL HURT...oh, no...it's just suppose to jolt enough to get & KEEP a cow's attention...and they are big, bony, and wear leather...but no...go ahead...try it...with your little human hand,no leather hide or cloven feet (well I hope no cloven feet). There was always someone in the group (a boy) who would...I cannot say that I've ever seen a female to this knowingly... Perhaps I should get out more...http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/lol.gif

...well...a '93 Taurus must be closely related to a '93 Caprice...even if it's pedigree is...well...whisper...ford... Hoopties have to stick together! Still miss my '75 Chevy Nova...it's probably on the road somewhere, old novas never die, they just rust away unless that "Bondo?" stuff is used properly. Spent an entire weekend once fixing a rust spot in the left rear quarter panel, filled it, sanded it, primed it, painted it...waxed it. Naturally, less than a week later...in the parking garage someone ran smack into that panel...all that beautiful work...well, the insurance covered the professionals to fix it. But the irony still has me shaking my head.

Also, Matt, and Miltie, if you are still around..I am finding out that RECREATIONAL FOOTBALL IS WAY MORE COMPETITIVE AND POLITICAL than I ever thought it would be. It's sad. After a month of practice (4 nights a week, mind you) last week's first game was a nightmare for about 7 kids and parents. NO PLAYING TIME. Needless to say, I had a few long words with the coach, and thankfully, today's game all children played. Why is REC ball so competitive already?

Cardinals? am I missing something? hehe I'm all excited about the SAINTS. Who will be watching Monday night?
I'm trying to find the darn LSU game on t.v., I guess it's not being broadcast.
Matt, it is a shame that REC football is as brutal as it is. My son was CRUSHED last week. Totally discouraged and wanted to quit. I told him "I'm your parent. I might pull you out, but YOU are NOT quitting. Glad he is sticking it out. How DARE the coaches be downright preferential and play favorites, ignoring new comers to the game. How dare they just be focused on WINNING at age 7&8, and perhaps having a lasting negative effect on my son who is an extremely athletic person, and has been very discouraged so far in his very first experience with football. It is very frustrating.

LabL...there's some country singer that I like that sings about his Mercury... My sister's car was a Green '75 Mercury...named "Ruth", mine was naturally "Naomi". Neither of them purchased "new" but gently "used"...NOT Pre-owned...USED... Yes, I believe in developing a first name relationship with my car...Naomi cooperated (or my Mom's prayers) by every significant breakdown: from broken fan belts to water pumps giving up the "ghost" or an alternater/battery lights going OUT...occurred as I pulled into either my parking space in Lexington or into the drive at my parent's house. I found that "thoughtful" of her...especially the time the power-steering belt broke. I put a lot of miles on that car and did do preventive maintenance but although I checked the belts...it was hard to tell if they were "going". Usually when one broke, that was a sign to replace them all...same with hoses, etc. That was the nice thing about the one new car I had after "Naomi"...I got in & drove it...didn't have it long enough to put the same number of miles..."Ruby" quess what color she was...
Yup Dovey...I'm recovering in here from Chucky Cheese (actually Gatti Land). I was suppose to know that difference earlier...it was a significant matter to my child & friend...wails from the backseat quickly corrected this error...To me, there was NO difference...both are too crowded and too loud. Of course now my daughter's cranky & husband's cranky & the dog is hiding. So we all had a great time!
I've found it much less stressful & enjoyable to be dressed in Orange & cheering "War Eagle" for the Tiggers...oh, Tigers (hee) than to be watching UK Football...and there's something about SEC Basketball games that does not bring out my kinder, gentler nature...but thankfully that's a few weeks away yet. AND no team sports yet for my daughter...she could probably behave just fine, my behavior might prove to be the problem...

wise,
My son wanted to quit his junior year in high school. His school was one of the top 2-3 programs in Georgia. He played line and not hardly anyone that wasn't a senior started on the line. After 2-3 weeks of not playing he wanted to quit. He was tired playing on the scout team. I told him he couln't quit now. If he wanted to quit at the end of the year that was fine but not in the middle of the season. He played maybe 5 minutes all year. Next year he was starting off. guard went to 5A state championship game Played in the Georgia dome twice that year. He wouln't trade that for anything now.
Matt and Tik
Btw he played against Kenny Irons and Brad Lestor. Irons never beat us. We never beat Lestor (Parkview, his team won 47 games in a row. When my son was a senior the only two games we lost was to Parkview (about 3 miles down the road)in regular and state championship game.

Yes, I find that to be the case with myself, as well. I have already been nominated as "Team-Mom". I don't exactly understand how I got there, all I did was sit on the bench with those kids, tell them to pick up there cone-shaped water cups and throw them into the proper place in the trash, and I run up and down the sidelines hoopin and hollerin with the coaches, and hand water bottles to those tired ones (the ones who are over-used in the game!) make sure they stay hydrated. I just can't believe that it is soo widespread, and you are right, let them play, let them learn the game, let them decide if it's for them or not, but don't have "starters" and subs at that level. It's ridiculous. I'm not a nice mom when i see my son run on the field 4 times asking if he can play, and coach says "sorry" and sends him to the sidelines. Especially when he had the fastest speed in speed camp out of all 50 kids. MY SON!!! FASTEST one out of all 50. Give me a break. LL, this is what I like about you, you have let me in on the secret doctrines of the Utertarians. It is very hard for us Prostatetarians to understand ya'll's thinking sometimes, as I have been scratching my head lately reading factnet. No matter, "man logic" is totally illogical to most of you.
Anyway, back to the truck. I put the plan of action into first gear last night. Allie and I went out to eat, and usually take her car, (another Toyota, BTW) but we took my truck. I started telling her how much I am gonna miss my favoriteve vehicle of all time...said we ought to detail the truck real nice when we turn it over to SteveO.
She has a consult job coming up that will pay for a kitchen remodling...and said she would use that $ for a down payment on a new truck. Man! that was easy....
In all seriousness, she will get her kitchen, and I will happily drive a hooptie. I have long been delivered from the need to have "things" to prove my right standing before man and God.
All I ask is that I have A/C (we run it 9 months in vehicles down here) and a powerful sound system. That, is the truth. Actually looking for a little truck about 5 years old. Will be mucho happy and blessed!

Used to send 60 yard fieldgoals over the top of uprights, now 40 yarders limp over crossbar and land ever so softly.Yet thr young man inside me says lose some weight exercise and you can still kick 50 yd fieldgoals.Mattie I am going out for breakfast and contemplate, and ruminate

I'm not big into team sports. However, we lived in Denver in 1982 and I got pretty attached to the Bronchos. Football is the only team sport I enjoy.
My husband and I enjoy golf but it's not a team sport when we play together; he's too serious about it. Last time we played together, he kept telling me to HURRY! Lots of people behind us. MOVE! The Packers are big around here, of course. I tried to get into it in my younger years, but I could never sustain the illusion. Maybe it would help if I actually learned the rules, but, as it stands now, eventhough I understand the basics I can't keep track of all the different potential penalties. Baseball is sort of boring, but at least I understand everything. I think hockey is probably my favorite team sport if only because there is always the chance that a massive fight will suddenly break out.http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/wink.gif
As far as golf goes, I agree with Mark Twain--"Golf is a good walk interrupted." Though, I might actually find it more enjoyable if I started playing the way you do. http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/lol.gif

Racing - might be a car wreck. I hear ya.
Actually, I teased my husband for playing golf; I thought it was such a silly non-sport - until I picked up a driver. There's nothing quite like hitting a good, solid 150 yd. drive. When you hit the ball just right, it makes this certain sound, kind of intoxicating .... or maybe it just feels good to whack the heck out of something and not have to go to jail for it.
The thing I like about golf is that it's a very mental game; one bad shot can start a downward spiral mentally and it's a challenge to see if you can discipline yourself to overcome it. No fun to watch on TV, though. Not a spectator sport.

Joke:
A Jewish grandmother is taking her little grandson for a walk on the Jersey shore on a crisp, fall day.
Suddenly, the little boy darts away from her, gets too near the ocean and is swept away by a wave.
The grandmother lifts her arms and begins to wail "Dear God, please, please, save this, my only grandson, my beloved. I beg you, God. Save him!"
Immediately, a huge roiling, wave rises from the ocean, carrying the little boy back to the shore and deposits him safely at his grandmother's feet.
She inspects the child, and looks up toward heaven says, "He had a hat."

I've given up worrying about the computer & viruses (Ron's picked up "Bugs" twice from the "safe" Military Sites)...I have come to the conclusion that my Anti-Virus Software & Anti-Spy Software and in general Anti-Software-Software... goes out and deliberately retrieves viruses...thereby making me think it necessary to "Upgrade"...which of course I do. As far as I know, no virus now...but what really goes in inside my computer & who it's really talking to & what it is saying... Anyone ever listen to Coast-to-Coast late at night??? As far as I know, my computer doesn't have any viruses on it...right now. Wildwood, if you're using Internet Explorer as your webbrowser that would explain why you have a virus. Try getting a different brower like Firefox (http://www.mozilla.com/) or Netscape (http://browser.netscape.com/ns8/); they're somewhat less vulnerable to spyware, adware and such. I use Netscape, personally, and I really like it.

"Is that Electric Fence always on?"
Yes, and another word of advice to men....watch out for that wire should nature call. Continous stream is a heck of an electrical conductor. Maybe that excludes most of us MCM graybeards. Dang hate I said all of that. Too late now....oh well, it is the bunny trail.
I had to bravely disengage a porker from the electric fence in my late teens. Poor thing got hung in it and the squeal was blood curdling. I grabbed his hind quarters and yanked hard, and received several major jolts as the voltage jumped from one liquid filled mammal to another (me). We called that particular pig "Nixon" because he had HUGE jowls. Made some kinda good soul food dish to somebody back then....
And oh...the computer. We've got something that is blocking all of our live updates from Norton, Windows, Dell, etc. So far, no nasty pop ups, but with a disabled firewall, it seems to be only a matter of time. I look at internet history pretty closely with a red blooded 15 yr old male in the house.

Good morning all...it is a great day in the deep south, in the low 60's, and I have contemplated just taking the day off and heading down to the farm, got one more deer stand to put up. Hmm....nah, better wait till the weekend, the boy will be furious.
Growing up at Ft. Rucker, we used to check in at homeroom at Enterprise High School and head to the beach. We could be on the sand drinking Old Milwaukee in an hour and a half, and back home in time to watch the Bugs Bunny cartoons on channel 12 at 4.
By my senior year, I began to think that there was more to life than this. It took a year of scratching my head before the Master met me on the Emmaus Road my first year of college. Those early years, pre MCM, were wonderful. Jesus Music and my guitar. Still remember the sheet music books from Barry McGuire and Second Chapter. Randy Stonehill...wow...burning my Black Sabbath albums. My brother thought I was crazy. I was, crazy in love with Christ.
Those were the days that lived in my heart through all of the MCM days. They were real. He was real, not some doctrine/rules/set of standards to impress the world with...the Green Berets....how utterly sinful, we ignored whole sections of Christ's words...the first being last.
Those early days come back strong to me now. The junk...not so much. As with most things in life, the real things stick and the fluff, well, it just blows away if you let it.

I recently "found" my two favorite 90 minute casette tapes (made from those old fashioned things called LPs...), close to 30 years old...I think... Phil Keaggy on one side, Chuck Girard on the other...they still played! And I guess most of those songs have been playing in the background of my thoughts for years..."Lay Your Burden Down" (Girard) and "Love Broke Through"...humming them now...
Enjoy Keaggy J2t! Just like old cars...some hold up better than others and just keep moving on down the road..... Phil Keaggy--wow, guess in way, I'm still traveling with him...8 Track, LP, Cassette, CD or MP3...quite a trip so far... http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/lol.gif

I used to love Phil Keaggy. In fact, he and his wife lost a son, Ryan,to prematurity and Phil wrote a beautiful song called "We Won't Be Cryin', Ryan." I loved that song and decided to name my third child Ryan if it were it a boy. Ironically, my son Ryan was born prematurely and I thought of that song often during the first 30 precarious days of my son's life, wondering if I would be using it at his funeral.
Anyhoo, I hadn't thought of Phil Keaggy in years until his name was mentioned here, so I decided to check out his website.

I think Kenny Roger is a better singer than Barry Manilow. Kenny has more soul to his song. Just my thought . http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/happy.gif
I bought a few of his song , you decorated my life , Through the years , The Gambler and Island in the streams with Dolly Parton.
Remember those songs ?...

oh...Ginger! I remember, I still HAVE those clothes, guess I should clear out my closet...but "You Decorated My Life"...and then Dolly (who has the most perfect voice ever...singing her song "I Will Always Love You"...way before Whitney did it and did her "Dolly Who?" when asked about the writer of the song. BUT Kenny...Coward of the County!!! "I promised you, Dad, not to do the things you done.

As far as country singers go, no one can stand up to Johnny Cash. And I don't say that simply because he's "in" right now. He had the coolest voice.

I was searching for some old song, and I remembered Shawn Cassidy and ITunes does not sell them ! I said "hey Hon, Itunes does not sell Shawn Cassidy". he replied "you know, Itunes only sell Classy Artist".
I remember on the 5th grade and 6th grade . All the girls raved about him ! LOL !

don't know keagy or keagly, is it? Sadly, Some artists my parents liked are the only ones I can think of from before "my time" like
Roy Orbison, Buddy Holly, (dad) Elvis (mom) Cat Stevens (dad). There were others...I can still (and it still happens) hear my dad telling me to "listen to the words" of one of Roy's songs, or anther one of his favorites. to this day, he will say, "Have you ever listened to the WORDS?" (yeah, every time it came on with you in the car, you'd make sure we'd listen to the WORDS."

Strange the syncronicities or something similar I suppose. Had a case of the prostate a few days ago. Revived dialogue in my head between myself and doctor and suddenly I was feeling very much healed or at least my attitude towards it changed very quickly.
BTW Ginger, Kenny had a facelift. He now has skin smoother than Dolly's. Gollee!

I think Kenny and Capt Kirk must go to the same Plastic Sawbones in Hollyweird.
Age gracefully for cryin' out loud!
J2, the group that SteveO says Phill Keaggy sits in on with is Dispatch. They are almost listenable to me...but I have to purge myself with some Cash AND George Jones. (Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?) Makes me wanna pull over, grab a RR out of the cooler in the pickup bed, and spike it with a few human tears.

Miltie is busy building a log cabin. Just call him Charles Ingalls. Little House on the Plateau.
Observation: With the exception of the bunny trail threads, Factnet has become a predictable and tiring exercise of having to respond to the nonsensical ramblings of a troll. It is just about to run me off--but I enjoy the fellowship here too much. A simple solution would be to not read or respond, however, human nature loves to watch the train wreck.
Miltie, don't tell Allie there is frost on the Plateau again. She almost turned in her resignation. I can't let that happen; I have this lifestyle to maintain, y'know.

oh, matt, how true. I often wonder why I am still here. I've already taken a hit this morning, before I had coffee, evern. No fair.
I'll tell you why I'm still here. There are a few people here (you're at the top of my list) who are so funny and delightful that you outweigh the negative ugliness that abounds. Apparently, I'll do almost anything for a laugh.

lab -- I understand your "not wanting to be run off." I don't think that necesarily makes one stubborn or stiff-necked. As dicussed elsewhere, life can be messy. This board can be messy. That doesn't mean you run. My barometer on stuff like this is it's okay as long as it remains/feels "healthy" and brings more pleasure than pain.
On coffee, I appreciate the IV concept -- but I DO enjoy the taste! In fact, I usually get a cup of decaf after my inital 32 ounces of regular. The doctor said 2 cups -- he just didn't say how BIG.

Oh...and Ginger, regarding "aging gracefully"--- when I first started going gray, I put some "Just For MEN" in my hair, and one day out in the bright sunshine, my Dad started cracking up and told me I looked like a Duracell copper top battery. That was it. No more chemicals for this boy, well, except for the Hi Karate aftershave. Mixed with Old Spice. Allie calls me out on the patio to ward off the mosquitos.

People seem to be standing up to him a bit more. When Robert Unknown started the new prophecy thread he specifically told a certain individual to keep in line. I am watching with interest to see how/if things change.
As long as I have my sarcastic humour, I can deal with almost everything in a relatively calm manner. But, try to take that away and I become a pressure cooker that will explode.http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/lol.gif
I agree people like to watch a train wreck, but, even more than that, people like to be right and get in the last word, even if it's against a little internet troll. And, also, on a board with a religious, anti-cult theme at least some people fear that not arguing against certain idiotic statements is like a tacit endorsement of them.

I remember one of my Hubby story while he was new in the Navy. It was in hawaii. He said that the navy cafeteria gives free Cappucino. Ah, he would lots of whip cream on top of it, with springled chocolate. Pour it in a large 3 cup mug , thats every morning.
Coming from the philippines, he has no clue whats the ingredients in there. It just taste soooo good. Until a month later, they go jogging, he does not understand why he is having a hard time jogging. They jog every day, but he is breathing harder than usual.

wild: You would be so welcome! We often have visitors and youth groups from the Church of Christ, the Methodist Church, the Catholic church, the area Charismatic chuches, etc. At times, the Christians have outnumbered the Jews at service.
I know that years ago I was often just curious, but thought that it might not be proper to attend. Not so! You would be welcomed with open arms. I think seeing the Torah service - taking the Torah from the Ark -would be something every Christian could enjoy being a part of. Often, Christian families come so their kids can see the Torah and our rabbi will answer any and all questions they have. Torah trivia - A Torah can range in price from $20,000.00 and up because they are written by hand and checked 3-7 times by reading each letter aloud. When they become worn, they are never thrown away or burned but must be buried in a Jewish cemetary.
Feel free to visit your local Temple anytime (I would suggest Reform because it might be a little easier to understand). And no one would ever suggest that you become Jewish, so you don't have to worry about that.
