I posted this message earlier in the week further down on the MSG board and Ariel (thank you) advised that I repost it higher up on the board.
I am looking for an old friend.
I went to school with Lynn Cote at Enfield Christian Academy (ECA) in Enfield CT and graduated in 1980. I last saw Lynn when I visited her at TBS in Lenox maybe in 1986 or 87.
It's kind of funny, I haven't though much about anybody I went to school with over the years til I spoke with my younger brother in Ct a few months ago. His old high school girlfriend, who he hasn't seen in years, got hold of his number and called him. They talked about old times and did the 'whatever happened to' thing. Afterwards he called me and asked if I knew where anybody was from E.C.A. I hadn't talked to anyone in years myself and kind of left it at that.
Then about a month a go I was at my local library looking for something to read and I happened to pull a book off the shelf about Religious Cults.
"Hmm, this looks interesting", I thought, so I read it.
Having taken a course in psychological warfare while I was in the Army I decided to learn the psychology behind people getting involved in cults.
I started looking for stuff on the internet and found the Rick Ross web site where I ran across the name Dr Carl Stevens.
It looked familiar, but I didn't know why.
Eventually I read enough to jump start my memory and I realized he was the guy running the school in Lenox.
I didn't realize so many people got worked over
by this Carl Stevens guy over the years. Judging from the posts I've read here over the last few days there's some real hurt inside alot of people who were involved in his organization. Some sound real angry. From some of the posts I get an idea that most of you were really dedicated to what you believed and the work you were doing. It's a real shame that you all worked so hard for so long only to have to part ways and now be treated
like **** by people you once considered friends.
Anyway, reading some of your stories got me to thinking about Lynn Cote. Whatever happened to her?

PS: I copied the last message and reposted it here with a few typos I fixed up, but I'd like to add a few comments regarding the posts. Strictly "outsider" comments, since personally I don't know this Carl Stevens guy and have never been to any of his churches.
It seems that this discussion board is a lot of things: part help desk, part info center, part chat room, etc. It's generally put to good use by the people posting, but at times I'm not sure if it's doing some people any good.
I'm saying that for this reason: Something that gets you worked up, all over again, but never provides any resolution is in many ways not good for the 'bod - emotionally, mentally, or physically.
I'm talking about the bitching.
Bitching, in itself, is not a bad thing. Everybody does it. I believe most times it is helpful and necessary- it is a natural mechanism for bringing something bothersome out for open discussion.
Sometimes it's just to vent to get something off your chest. At times a dialogue ensues that allows you to better address the issue and apply a remedy to correct it, or better deal with it- at the present or in the future.
But Endless Bitching ceases to be helpful and will continually drag you down and eventually everyone around you.
My advice, and it's free this time, in the future I might start charging: I would suggest that it might probably be a good thing for some of you to stop, stand back, evaluate what you're doing and question your own motives for posting here. Do this as a favor to yourself.
If you're hurtin- get help.
If you ask, somebody here may be able to prescribe you a fix, but Negativism is BAD self-medication.
One last thought, I see a lot of bad-mouthing this Carl Stevens guy, bad-mouthing other people in his organization, bad-mouthing his churches, schools, his toupee,... the only thing I haven't seen dissed is his family pet (I may have just missed that one somewhere) and judging by most of the posts he probably deserves all this, but I want to ask all of you who participate in this to ask yourself--What are your goals here? What good do you hope to achieve? Is this something that will fix the problem that's bothering you? For that matter what are the goals of this discussion group? All this yammering about Carl and his organization is doing what to fix it?
Thanks for your time.
