Was anyone at the after rap about 4 years ago in the chapel when some woman got up to the microphone and asked a question about her never being able to get in touch with her (branch)pastor, and needing to because she had an issue to discuss with him, and Schaller replied "ask not what your pastor can do for you, but what you can do for your pastor?" Pastor Paul got up quickly out os his chaior and tried to smooth things over by saying"... what he meant was.."

Besides, I really liked Pastor Gardner and got a lot from his Survey of Theology class in Lenox. They're batting a thousand when it comes to driving out the good ones.

My experiences with Dan (dr.dean?) Lewis were many, especially in 1993. If you were confronted by him concerning some issue keep in mind that Stevens probably sent him and told him what to say. That's his job in the church. Hatchet Man. He gets alot of the dirty work.

Where do I start with him? I remember the time he tried to take over the band from Bruce Graham. We were on a road trip to Baltimore and he tells us at the rest stop how off Bruce is. For one thing D. wasn't qualified as a musician, to me he was just a play by numbers guy (Hey Dean, can you spell a C major 9 flat 5?) Bruce played 3 instruments, could write for strings, horns, and vocal as well as rhythm section. I seemed to be the only musician in the band who understood this. Eventually D. won out in GGWO Baltimore. I heard he got tossed out of the band later..."its hard going up, but twice as hard going down"
Barbara gave up lots of time to the band in Baltimore. She'd come home and be all upset. Once they sent her home for looking too sexy. Well duh. But I knew she was high strung and told her I couldn't take her side in these arguements because I wasn't there and suggested maybe she retire from the band. So one Sunday night after service Lewis calls me in his office."you have to talk to your wife" I told him the same thing I told Barb "I wasn't there" You should have seen the smoke coming out of his ears.
He pressured me alot about my schedule. In 93 I worked 7 days weekly from memorial day to labor day and took a weekend off to go to the beach with Barb. I had cleared it with Stevens...but there was hell to pay on Monday. Again, he does all the dirty work.
Big Bully Dean Lewis. He had me follow him around one day because he was afraid Keith Hancock was going to beat him up.
Once he gave me the job of dealing with a young guy who was coming down with scitzophrenia...I spent an hour talking him into going to the hospital. You should have seen how scared Lewis was when I brought him to his office. Big tough guy.
I remember my last meeting with him, over pizza at Bertuccis. He said I was going to be judged. I wasn't intimidated about that, no more turning the other cheek for users like you, Dean. I payed my own half of the tab and never turned back.
I just never understood why we needed a bully like that in a Christian Organization:
