Ordinary People, Extraordinary God
My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise.
— Psalm 57:7
He came from the most humble of beginnings and rose to be the greatest king in the history of the nation Israel. In battle he was fearless. In wisdom and ruling, he was without peer. He was someone God uniquely described as being a man after His own heart. Of course, I'm speaking of David.
God's selection of David as Israel's king can help us identify some principles about the man or woman God wants to use.
God Uses Ordinary People. The Lord uses ordinary people to do extraordinary things; then people give credit to the Lord rather than to human beings. Just as surely as God plucked David, an ordinary shepherd boy, from obscurity, He is looking for someone He can show His strength through today.
God Uses Spiritually Focused People. David was totally focused on who God is (see Psalm 57:7). God may not give you everything you hoped for in life. Then again, He may give you more. You just leave that up to God and put Him first. That is what David did.
God Uses People Who Are Content in Him. As a young boy, David's primary responsibility was to watch and insure the safety of sheep. David figured that if watching sheep was what God wanted him to do then he would do the best job he could. Did he dream of one day doing great things for God? We can't know for sure, but we do know that David was content in whatever God called him to do.
Like David, we are all ordinary people. No matter. As long as you are willing to be faithful in what God has set before you and willing to be content in whatever God asks from you, God will use you.

Although I am not a member of Harvest Ministries,I gain alot of insight and edification from Pastor Greg's devotionals. Here is another that I am blessed to share with the body,
Looking for Loyalty
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen. . . . that no flesh should glory in His presence.
— 1 Corinthians 1:27-29
David was in many ways the opposite of King Saul. Saul came from a family who loved him; David came from a family who neglected him. Saul was the most handsome all Israel; David was a handsome enough guy, but relatively ordinary. Saul was attractive on the outside, but on the inside he was vain, shallow, and devoid of true integrity. In contrast, David had a deep spiritual life and an intense devotion to God. (If you want to know about David's spirituality profile, just read some of the Psalms. They are like windows into his soul.) Saul's problem was that he was full of himself. The Lord rejected him. David was full of the Lord, and God accepted him.
The Lord seems to go out of His way to use ordinary people to do extraordinary things; then people give credit to the Lord rather than to human beings. Just as surely as God plucked David from obscurity, He is looking for men and women He can use in these critical days in which we are living. God is looking for people to touch this generation. He is looking for people to change this world. Second Chronicles 16:9 says, "The eyes of the Lord run to and fro throughout the whole earth, to show Himself strong on behalf of those whose heart is loyal to Him."
What kind of person does He look for? Someone strong? No. The previous passage says He is looking for someone He can show His strength through—someone whose heart is turned toward Him. Is your heart totally turned toward God?

We all need to just laugh once in a while. With that in mind I offer the following,
To God -- From, The Dog
Dear God: Why do humans smell the flowers, but seldom, if ever, smell one another?
Dear God: When we get to heaven, can we sit on your couch? Or is it still the same old story?
Dear God: Why are there cars named after the jaguar, the cougar, the mustang, the colt, the stingray, and the rabbit, but not ONE named for a dog? How often do you see a cougar riding around? We do love a nice ride! Would it be so hard to rename the "Chrysler Eagle" the " Chrysler Beagle"?
Dear God: If a dog barks his head off in the forest and no human hears him, is he still a bad dog?
Dear God: We dogs can understand human verbal instructions, hand signals, whistles, horns, clickers, beepers, scent ID's, electromagnetic energy fields, and Frisbee flight paths. What do humans understand?
Dear God: More meatballs, less spaghetti, please.
Dear God: Are there mailmen in Heaven? If there are, will I have to apologize?
Dear God: Let me give you a list of just some of the things I must remember - to be a good dog.
1. I will not eat the cats' food before they eat it or after they throw it up.
2. I will not roll on dead seagulls, fish, crabs, etc., just because I like the way they smell.
3. The sofa is not a 'face towel'.. neither are laps.
4. The garbage collector is not stealing our stuff.
5. My head does not belong in the refrigerator.
6. I will not bite the officer's hand when he reaches in for Mom's driver's license and registration.
7. I will not play tug-of-war with Dad's underwear when he's on the toilet
8. I don't need to suddenly stand straight up when I'm under the coffee table.
9. I must shake the rainwater out of my fur before entering the house - not after.
10. I will not throw up in the car.
11. I will not come in from outside and immediately drag my butt.
12. The cat is not a 'squeaky toy' so when I play with him and he makes that noise, it's usually not a good thing. And, finally, My last question . .
Dear God: When I get to Heaven may I have my testicles back?

My dog cassie loves to roll in anything smelly...once at the cemetery she got into some fishy fertilizer and when she jumped in the car I thought I would fall into a grave. It was home, to the basement, into the set tub and scrub a dub dub,,,,then she runs upstairs and tears up the den. She's half cocker spanial and half poodle. Big soulful brown eyes and very very smart. She collects humans. (as friends)Many times she has gotten me off the couch (fighting depression) and I had to walk her. Once when I was very sick she lay with her ear over my heart for 12 hours without moving. I tried to get people to walk her, she dug her feet into me and snapped at them. No matter how hard they pulled the leash she would not leave me. How do they know when we are in trouble?

I have a Samoyed, husky, wolf mix.Her name is Saybo and she's very intelligent. She asks to go for a ride with 5 vocalizations. She can say,I want one,Please and goodbye. She hates to perform in front of other people but will if I encourage her with something she likes the taste of.
She can smell a Dunkin Donuts ten miles away.
She is a little vindictive at times.Mostly from separation anxiety. It took a long time for me to help her get over that.
If you grabbed hold of her and it hurt, she would put her teeth on you and without hurting you she would scream like a woman.( no offense to the ladies )
Animals have a sense that most people are not aware of.Those that know they are family can sense illness in us as well as sadness.
Although God gave man dominion over the animals,He never said they where not intelligent.
I know some animals that are smarter than some folks I know.
No one here intended LOL.

A message from some members that have ministered in Israel.
Access the power from on high!
Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Have you ever thought about how much power God releasing in our midst right now? Is it 20%... 50%... 100% of His great power?? I would venture to say that God is not even releasing a fraction of 1% of His power today. That might sound crazy to you, but think about it. If He were to release all His power on this earth, don't you think that sin would be completely destroyed and righteousness and holiness would abound?
God is an all-powerful, all-encompassing God, and there is no limit to what He can do. He chooses to release His power through His saints -- through sinners that have been washed by the blood of the Lamb! We have access to amazing power from on high -- but we have to be open vessels, allowing the anointing of God to flow through us!
The power to tread upon serpents, scorpions and every power of darkness has been given to us! Let's pray like we've never prayed before! And allow the Lord to use us as vessels through which His power can be released!

This true story knocked me out of my chair.
A "Sign" From God After a Florida Hurricane-Truth!
Summary of the eRumor
The eRumor says that the high winds of Hurricane Charlie in Florida in 2004 ripped a previous sign from a billboard, leaving a previous billboard visible for all to see that said, "WE NEED TO TALK...GOD"
The Truth
Hurricane Charlie was one of four hurricanes to devastate portions of Florida during the 2004 hurricane season.
In Orlando, the winds peeled away a current billboard leaving the remnants of a previous billboard campaign and displayed the timely message from God.
The old billboard was part of a series that were created by Andy Smith and Charlie Robb of the Smith Agency in Fort Lauderdale.
The billboards were paid for by a person who asked to remain anonymous and who asked the Smith Agency to run the campaign from September to November of 1998.
The roadside announcements were actually the work of Andy Smith and Charlie Robb of The Smith Agency in Fort Lauderdale. The advertising firm was hired last summer by a person requesting anonymity.
Their instructions: Create and execute a marketing campaign from September to November that would get people thinking about God.
The successful campaign prompted a request from the Outdoor Advertising Association of America to ask for permission to use the billboards elsewhere in the United States.
According to the Wall Street Journal, they appeared in more than 200 cities.

Ephesians 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
Did you know that most snakes have no sense of hearing? They can sense vibrations, but for the most part they have no ears. In the natural realm, serpents are just another creature but in the spiritual realm they represent the rulers of darkness. In the spiritual realm, faith is linked to hearing! Since these serpents have no real ears to hear, the enemy cannot and does not live by faith. The powers of darkness cannot handle faith. When the enemy attacks, he attacks our faith. He wants us to be deaf to God, to doubt God's goodness, His faithfulness, His provision -- he wants us to be faithless. Why does he want this?? Simply because when we doubt God, the next to follow are discouragment, anger, frustration, anxiety, and the tendency to sin!
let's defeat the enemy by exercising our faith today! When the flaming arrows of doubt come your way, extinguish them by raising your shield of faith! Trust His Word. Hold to His love. Declare His mercy and goodness.

John 1:12 But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:
The word for builder in Hebrew is “bo-neh”. It is also translated repairer. When our Messiah came 2000 years ago, He came to repair lives -- to do a complete restoration of all that is broken in this world.
Interestingly, the Hebrew words for son, “ben” and daughter, “baht” both also come from the word bo-neh! So -- if you were wondering what God’s calling on your life is, here you have it! We, as sons and daughters, are called to repair and build up our families, the body of Messiah and the world around us.
Let's begin looking for opportunities to bless those around us! Let's seek to be the ones to repair broken hearts, lives and relationships. In this way, we will truly become sons and daughters of God!

A little uplifting,
-----------------------
Conspicuous Christians
"You are the light of the world."
— Matthew 5:14
There are two good ways we can be light for the world. We can let our light shine by doing good works, and we can let our light shine by proclaiming the gospel.
Jesus told us to be conspicuous Christians when He said,
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14–16)
When there is a disaster, when people are starving, when there is a country torn by war or ravaged by disease, Christians should be the first on the scene, doing what they can. We can let our light shine at home or in our workplace by being kind, generous, loving, and by living sacrificially for others. As Christians, we can let our light shine before others through our good works.
Then of course, we also should let our light shine by proclaiming the gospel, by telling others of their need for Christ. We are not to be secretive about our faith. We can tell our neighbors the good news. We can make sure our coworkers know exactly what a Christian believes. And we can raise up our children to walk with the Lord.
You can be a conspicuous Christian—let your light shine.

More good stuff:
Safe in the Shadow
Keep me as the apple of Your eye; hide me under the shadow of Your wings.
— Psalm 36:8
Compromising Christians have too much of the Lord to be happy in the world, but too much of the world to be happy in the Lord. They know the world doesn't have the answers, yet they don't fully trust God either. It is a miserable no-man's land. As Elijah made clear then, I say now: It is time to come out. It is time to stand up for what you believe.
Where did Elijah get his incredible courage and boldness? Elijah served a living God, not a dead one such as Baal. Like Job, Elijah could say, "I know that my Redeemer lives."
Elijah realized he stood in the presence of the most powerful King of all, and it was God himself. This was true also when Elijah stood in the presence of Ahab, because he understood what Psalm 91 meant when it said, "He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty" (v.1). He was not afraid to stand before Ahab.
Have you ever tried to stand in someone's shadow? You have to stay very close. If he moves, you have to mirror his actions. Elijah stood in the shadow of God no matter where he was. Sometimes we forget that. We think when we leave church, we somehow leave God's presence. The truth is wherever we go, God is with us.
When you stand in the presence of God, you will not bow before any man. Proverbs 28:1 says, "The righteous are bold as a lion." Elijah was bold because he was aware that he was always standing in God's presence. He seemed to be the only one doing it at the time..

Dave,
I really loved the dog joke (except my 4 girls objected to the testicle part). I have a lab/dalmation that is blind from diabetes and she's the smartest of the four of them. They do understand a whole lot more than we give them credit for. God uses them to minister not only to us, but to others that visit here. The other 3 are beagles...2 of which are "imps" that get into everything...and the third one that is the oldest tries to do the butt drag every time she comes in ...lol we're one step ahead of her blocking off the family room!! Only now, she's got herself raw from doing it on the patio concrete. Its not fleas, or worms, she's been countless times to the vet. Its a senile obscession!!!
Thanks for making my day with that one, I needed a good laugh today.
Maria
