Hey Guys- Thought you might enjoy an upcoming interview with Joel Freeman. Joel has recently completed a Documentary Film called "Return to Glory, The Powerful Stirrings of the Black Man"
The film recently premiered in Nashville with 3,000 attending. If nothing else you can listen to a couple of old farts and some decent music.

Hello Friends,
I'm listening to Marty O'Brien now. Is he joining us in August. I am already blown away deeply by his comments on shame. Oh, God, I am so overwhelmed at the years of free thought lost to mind control-God help me to know it's worth living and getting free.
Marty if you are reading thank you.
Love,
Patricia

It was great wasn't it? I wished that I had been able to type of many of his thoughts, to ponder them later. Next time I will make sure I have Word open so I can post some of his statements on FN.

Marty, it was really really fantastic!!!

Soon we'll be leaving this old world behind,
I don't mind.
Christ the Lord will take us in the twinkling of an eye
We'll be gone.

But all the people left behind will have much trouble to go through
They'll wish they where with me and you
Cause we'll be at the marriage supper in the presence of the King
We will sing

Halleluiah praise your precious Holy name
you are the only worthy one
Father and the Spirit and the sacraficial Son
I love you

but for nowImust be occupied with you each day
teach me Father how to pray
that I may bring you to some lost ones as I travel on this road
and lift the heavy load

Soon we'll be leaving this old world behind I don't mind
Christ the Lord will take us in the twinkling of an eye we'll be go,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

I wrote this song many years ago.I still love that it ends in the middle of the last verse.

Bruder,

Excellent program tonight, on Shame. I can relate to shaming other people when they haven't gone through the kind of recovery I have. I have seen this truth first hand in myself. Thank God, I am becoming more acutely aware when I begin to think in terms of toxic shame.
Example: I can be a food addict, experience powerful toxic shame, (which makes one eat more), finally go into recovery, get my addiction under control, loose weight and then shame other people for being overweight and not trying.
Whew....crazy or what? Shame begets shame.

I read John Bradshaw's book, "Healing the Shame That Binds You" about 8 times when I got out of TBS. I couldn't get enough. Shame is such a killer of the true self.

Thanks Bruder, for your very insightful and powerful program.
Maybe you have a weekly schedule, but the Shame issue is one I could hear all day long.

I wept when I heard him say. One bad act=One bad person, as a definition of society's way of shaming individuals. What is up with that. Plus, his mention of slavery. Wow! Is that relevant to some of us or what? If it were a call in show I would have been dialing away! I have not shared many things on FN and will not share some things. Suffice it to say, one well spent word like the above on shame goes right into my deepest being and does something. I go to accupuncture to help produce endorphins after years of pain medication. I call the guy who runs the place a "jewish mother theresa" because he deals with those society considers outcasts, lepors. They are just people like anyone else, but they get to see and be victimized by the "together" crowd who wouldn't understand mercy that gives them breath every day.
I hear the softness in this mans voice when he administers care, he knows these people are seeking wholeness from a place that cannot be viable in our society. Some are just numbing pain. I have very radical views on things and I cannot share them just anywhere, but I will never judge any substance user, heck, aren't we told that we are fallen. Isn't it possible that some sense a correction from medication that they never felt before. I don't even like the word addict. I have family members who are addicted to self-righteousness and I fear for them more than any addict. They are the first to know it all, judge people etc.. but I'd rather be broken and give a soft word. Me, I place a high premium on kindness. What impressed me about Marty's program is not his vocabulary, but the soft spoken delivery of a powerful thought and then space to ponder it. No heavy revies, or dessucations of pyramids in the mirrored room of the soul, but simple powerful principles from a heart that wants to showcase something other than an ego trip.
Thank you Mr. O'brien, one day I hope to share my story with you. It is still unfolding and I am struggling but your words helped me tonight.

This is on my alma mater's station. Spent 3 years in that building.

Martin J. O'Brien is the host of Grace Street, a popular radio talk/music show in Portland, ME. Marty worked for a regional substance abuse hospital in New England for 7 years where the development of adolescent programming and outreach was his primary focus. Marty currently works at an agency in Portland with opiate addicted clients. He is the founding member of a team that developed the first indoor skatepark/prevention counseling center in New England. Marty has spoken in over 40 high schools, and is a sought after speaker on addiction issues that range from trends in substance abuse, to developing culturally relevant material and spaces for young people. Marty worked for 14 years as a pastor of churches in Maine, where he created and lectured on a series "Wounded Healers", which he also took to Estonia, Finland, Holland, England and throughout the US.

What the hell is counseling anyway? Is it someone who has all the answers telling someone who doesn't?
That's kind of reminiscent of something isn't it.
The show was very powerful to me anyway. I wasn't expecting to hear anything new and lo and behold I did anyway...I need to not write for a while at least not extensive comments until I take a personal inventory and deal with some things I have been afraid of. I will be reading though and still loving all of you as best this frail little soul can.
Jim, that is an amazing thought, I wish I knew about the program a long time ago.
Call the station, maybe there is a tape or transcript, I taped part of it but some didn't come out. For me personally it lanced a very big hot spot.
Love in silence for a while,
Patricia

Why do people have the constant need to lay trips on each other.
Thanks AB, I still be here, I just have to focus on something that I have found easier (at least up until recently) to ignore...you are family, I'm not leaving and if I am honestly moved, I'll share.
Oh, Broder, thanks for the program.

Did anyone listen to Grace Street Last night who can share any of it. Also did anyone else have connection problems- I have been listening to the station for over 3 weeks and last night and this morning it will not connect to the server. I tested real one on my computer and it is working fine. I even downloaded another media player to accomodate the shoutstream but the file could not be supported or recognised. Bruder are there problems there? I was so disappointed to miss the show especially now.

Bruder the program tonight was great, but sad too. Did you ever hear Anna Nalick's song
Wreck of the Day". It strikes a very raw chord in me. Thanks for the insights tonight, especially on not fitting in and lonliness. Brushing up against hope...there is a thought.

For anyone interested here are the lyrics.

Wreck of the Day

Driving away from the wreck of the day
And the light's always red in the rear-view
Desperately close to a coffin of hope
I'd cheat destiny just to be near you
If this is giving up, then I'm giving up
If this is giving up, then I'm giving up, giving up
On love, On love

Driving away from the wreck of the day
And I'm thinking 'bout calling on Jesus
'Cuz love doesnt hurt so I know I'm not falling in love
I'm just falling to pieces
And if this is giving up then I'm giving up

If this is giving up then I'm giving up, giving up
On love, On love

Maybe I'm not up for being a victim of love
All my resistance will never be distance enough

Driving away from the wreck of the day
And it's finally quiet in my head
Driving alone, finally on my way home to the comfort of my bed
And if this is giving up, then I'm giving up
If this is giving up, then I'm giving up, giving up
On love, On love

Dina, Bruder/Marty and John Collins.. two of my favorite people! I also love front porches, rocking chairs and swings. I loved the point Marty was making about this disconnect within society today. The front porch is perfect word picture of community. Something which was completely alien in GG. We had a false community birthed out of false unity. I believe this is the heartcry for many of us now. I also believe community is necessary for our healing. And though FACTNet has it's faults and limitations it also brought us a sense of community.. of "being seen" of connection and understanding. FN is kinda like your front porch; an opportunity to engage and connect with whoever may pass by...

jeannie,I'm doing great and thank you immensly for your prayers and love in Christ.

The postmistress talked to her co-workers about some of the things my mother did for her and was able to witness to them through it.
She told them how my nieces son came into the post office with sadness on his face because she didn't have a stamp on her casket and wouldn't be able to make it to heaven without one.(he is five)
She gave him two stamps and she told them how he immediately changed his countanance to joy at the jesture.Even the postmaster general was in tears when she was done talking.

I hope my life has such a far reaching effect like that.Even in death her testimony stands to witness to the living.

Blessings to you my dear sister in the Lord.
