It’s kind of weird to be suddenly be remembering songs from 40 or so years ago! This past week I’ve been remembering this song I had been taught as a child.

Oh be careful little ears what you hear,
Oh be careful little ears what you hear,
There’s a Father up above,
Looking down in tender love,
Oh be careful little ears what you hear!

Oh be careful little eyes what you see,
Oh be careful little eyes what you see,
There’s a Father up above,
Looking down in tender love,
Oh be careful little eyes what you see!

Oh be careful little hands what you do,
Oh be careful little hands what you do,
There’s a Father up above,
Looking down in tender love,
Oh be careful little hands what you do!

Oh be careful little feet where you go,
Oh be careful little feet where you go,
There’s a Father up above,
Looking down in tender love,
Oh be careful little feet where you go!

Isn’t our Fathers love wonderful! I was taught that His love was good, even when I didn’t understand what that meant. Be careful little ears (things heard are very hard to forget), little eyes (things seen are impossible to forget), little hands (are our hands always giving love?) and little feet (do they always go where God wants them to?). As a child it’s impossible to understand just how important these words are. There comes a time when we can no longer go back to the innocence of childhood.

There also comes a time when we realize how damaging the things we’ve allowed ourselves to hear really are. Especially things we didn’t accept as truth at the time, things that made us uncomfortable. For example, "the atmosphere changes the words that were said, so you hear something else." I feel that I was told to doubt myself, and not to trust my own ears.

It’s so hard to believe that our Father up above looking down in tender love, would have chosen for us to live in a place where we cannot trust ourselves, our experiences, instincts, or even what we’ve seen with our own eyes. 2 Timothy 1: 7 says For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

We are blessed beyond measure to know and worship God, who is so merciful, tender hearted, compassionate, and loving to each and every one of us!
