I just joined this site and it has really helped me. I was in Baltimore with GGWO from '91' to '99', after being in Springfield, Ma. with Glorious Gospel church for two years.
I read a previous post stating that GGWO isn't racist. Oh my Lord, how could anyone say that!!
1)DR. Stevens and his son Paul made it very clear on the radio that they believe black people are cursed because of Ham laughing at Noah.
2)DR. Stevens said right in ABD, that there are lazy black people who work downtown.
3)I was very close to Pastor Shelton when I was down there, and we always talked about racism at GGWO.
4)I left in the middle of a rap when DR. Stevens said that, " no other races have been enslaved except the descendents of Ham", which is riddiculous!
5) There is definitely a white supremist attitude at GGWO, which I haven't experienced to that degree anywhere since, and yes I was friends with Julian, Eugene, pastor Ed Wiggons, and Pastor Tom Fields.
So many people were so un-transparent there. I can still see Pastor Sheltons' wifes' face as DR. Stevens made that , "there are lazy blacks who work downtown" remark.
6)There were a few people against promise keepers because they talked about race too much, at least in their opinion. Pastor wells was one of them. He also ran down DR. Tony Evans.
I know E.V. Hill and Alan Keyes spoke there, but it doesn't justify all the racist remarks that were made right from the pulpit.
7) Pastor Shelton informed me that, a certain Pastor (Scibelli?) wouldn't hardly let any africans who could afford to come to the covention come over. Without a doubt they put black people down and tried to keep them down.
8) Contrary to popular belief, there were hardly any missionaries in africa or latin america. Everyone wanted to go to Hugary. Eugene told me this.
Some black people in the ministry of course are stuck on we are the only true ministry in the world mentality, so they have stayed. I can't believe Pastor Shelton has stayed, he's complained about racism in the ministry more than me. I let him listen to the rap on tape I walked out on, and he agreed with me that his statements on race were off. I left the ministry. I recently tried to call him, I don't know if he tried to get back to me. We have talked several times since I left.
When I walked out of that rap, DR. Stevens went on a little tirade. He said, "You like when I teach other things, so why don't you like this".
The whole time I was at GGWO I listened to Charles Stanley, Chuck Swindoll, David Jermiah, Tony Evans and others, so many people just ran them all down. One dorm member didn't like the fact that I went to a hispanic church that wasn't part of GGWO.
I loved so many people there, who are victims themselves. DR. Wanda told me that her daughter would never learn anything about black history at the day school. I worked at the Hubble Space Telescope building. I told one of the teachers I could have someone speak at the school. I gave him the persons buisness card, they had a spanish name. The person was never contacted.
Anyways, I'm going to Brazil to teach english. I'm attending Glorious Gospel church where pastor steve scibelli's brother is. They aren't talking of course. GGWO has divided this great italian family.
