If he did it, he could just as well have erased FactNet from existance. It was done by a FactNet admin.

I can tell you how to and then you can tes it and see if I would have spent time doing it the way it was done.
Factnet turned it off.
Write an admin and ask.

Guess what Fini, my friend, in AMERICA we have such a thing as free speech. FREE SPEECH IS NOT ALWAYS GOOD SPEECH NOR IS IT ALWAYS TRUE. But it is always an indication of FREEDOM. Maybe you Russians can learn from that.
"The most effectual engines for [pacifying a nation] are the public papers... [A despotic] government always [keeps] a kind of standing army of newswriters who, without any regard to truth or to what should be like truth, [invent] and put into the papers whatever might serve the ministers. This suffices with the mass of the people who have no means of distinguishing the false from the true paragraphs of a newspaper."
"The basis of our governments being the opinion of the people, the very first object should be to keep that right; and were it left to me to decide whether we should have a government without newspapers or newspapers without a government, I should not hesitate a moment to prefer the latter. But I should mean that every man should receive those papers and be capable of reading them."
--Thomas Jefferson
While this is not a "newspaper" as such, it is public written expression, which causes AMERICA to thrive. Now sit and learn.

Jefferson a good Unitarian.
Was a genius.
Free Speech is intended for everybody not just who you would like.
I like your statement sir. Now can you live by it, if those who oppose your ideas come here and put up millions of posts?
Now sit and learn about the modern press. Its called the Internet.

1) Jefferson was a deist, not a Unitarian.
2) So what?
3) Bring it on.

Thomas Jefferson: A UU Perspective
Was Jefferson a Unitarian?
There seems to be a general consensus that Thomas Jefferson held Unitarian beliefs, but was not a member of a congregation. One of the works that he compiled is known as the Jefferson Bible. Beacon Press has a special version of this work with an introduction by Forrester Church. Jefferson felt that the moral and ethical structure established by Jesus was fundamentally sound, but that it had been corrupted by the supernatural elements added to it. His Bible was an attempt to extract the portions that he felt represented the true message of Jesus.

William Ellery Channing, the founder of Unitarianism did not solidify his doctrines until the years following his Baltimore sermon of 1819. Jefferson died in 1824. Jefferson was an individualistic deist.
But so what, he was one of the founding fathers and he believed in free speech.
Odd but of stuff that makes you go hmmm.
Carl Stevens's mother was a Unitarian almost up to her death--Unitarianism has Baltimore roots--Carl is now in Baltimore--hmmm. Where is Kevin Bacon in all these degrees of separation?

Channing delivered "Unitarian Christianity "at what was originally known as First Independent (Christ) Unitarian Church.
It is on Charles Street close to the 300 block and close to the Catholic Cathedral.
Jefferson wrote that it was his hope that all young men one day would be Unitarian.
The Morals Of Jesus Christ is one of the few docuemtns of religion ever published by the federal goverment. It was authored by Jefferson and is now known as The Jefferson Bible. It is published and supported to this day by The Unitarians.

"Jefferson wrote that it was his hope that all young men one day would be Unitarian."
Nope.
In 1822 he predicted that "there is not a young man now living in the US who will not die an Unitarian."
According to the Unitarians, "Jefferson never joined a Unitarian church."
So he was a deist who wasn't a very good prophet. He was a founding father who believed in free speech.
So does that make Kevin Bacon six degrees separated from William Ellery Channing?

Does this mean that Neil is six degrees removed from William Ellery Channing?

Cordell,
I was not going to post again here with this lovely comment as the title to the thread but for fun I had to.
If one defines a person as being a certain faith as a result of where they go to church than I would agree with you.
However many people are another faith and never step foot in that type of church.
For instance I could be a Christian where there are no Christian Churches.
Now I hate to say this but you and the other person have this right. See TJ was both. By the standard of what the Unitarians were in this time period we are discussing than Jefferson would qualify as a Unitarian. He would also qualify as a Deist. Both are problematic for Jefferson however because he did tend to swing based upon his political situation. In fact he defended his faith in Christianity a few times.
TJ often attended Unitarian Churches (was good friends with Dr. Joesph Priestly the scientist and theologian). At times he was a member of Episcipol Churches, but if anything he was anti established religion.
He was similar in theological views of many at this time. Many far more radical than his own.
I have no idea why I wrote all of this except for study but hey what's a former Unitarian to do?
BTW He is without exception my favorite american. His writings are something all citzens of this land she have to know like the back of their hand.
He is the dreamer of the Declaration, and the hope that it may be true is a wonderous idea.
Neil Carrick
PS In case you don't know before I was on staff at GGWO I was the youth Pastor for that part of Maryland for the UUA including a church I went to called the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore where there is a relief to Channings sermon. "Test all things, hold fast to that which is good". I met GGWO via a need to have a muscian for a worship service where Dr. Lewis sent me a piano player we all know.
