Have you now been reduced to quotes SS? How about quoting from Carl on Friday night? Weren't you there? Did you amen "another gospel?" Three long-time faithful families have left over that messsage. Final straw. So what about you?? Are you going to stand up and do the right thing or just join the forum with worthy quotes for your unworthy cause??
Just wondering what you are really made of SS? Were you moved with conviction after spending a week in Baltimore?

Who has blinded thee to truth
Has robbed thee of light. Thy blood
flows not freely within thine heart.
For the leaderthief has forsaken his light
And thine also, for Truth alone shines
The path to God, the path to Light.
He who steals thy light is decieved
By pride. His need is to rule thee, to
lead thee upon his own path, lit only
by the shadow of light once known.
Seek truth without his shadows, for he
is truly decieved by pride to harm thee.

Cheap grace is the deadly enemy of our church. We are fighting today for costly grace. Cheap grace means grace sold on the market like the cheapjack1s wares. Cheap grace is the preaching of forgiveness without requiring repentance, baptism without church discipline, Communion without confession, absolution without personal confession. Cheap grace is grace without discipleship, grace without the cross, grace without Jesus Christ, living and incarnate.

The real problems, with GGWO as I see it are:
- lack of accountability in leadership
- lack of fiscal transparency and accountability
- over-emphasis on personality and not enough on Christ.
- mistreatment of dissenters and ex-members.
The problems I see with many who leave embittered are.
-unforgiveness, even after years of having left (Time does NOT heal, forgiveness does.)
- blaming others for your own decisions.
- blaming others for your own dysfuntionalism.
- desire for vengeance. they wil not be satisfied until GGWO is a pile of ashes.

The Lord is my pace-setter; I shall not rush.
He makes me stop and rest for quiet intervals.
He provides me with images of stillness
Which restore my serenity.
He leads me in the way of efficiency
Through calmness of mind
And His guidance is peace.
Even though I have a great many things
To accomplish each day,
I will not fret.
His presence is here.
His timelessness,
His all-importance,
Will keep me in balance.
He prepares refeshment and renewal in the midst of activity
By anointing my mind with the oil of tranquillity.
My cup of joyous energy overflows.
Surely harmony and effectiveness shall be the fruit of my hours,
For I shall walk in the pace of my Lord
And dwell in His house forever.

God asks...
Isiah 58...
[6] Is not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke?
[7] Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh?
[8] Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy rereward.
[9] Then shalt thou call, and the LORD shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
[10] And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noonday:
[11] And the LORD shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
[12] And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.
****
Long ago when I was first introduced to salvation, these words found me and they have been my "call" for 25 years. These are the words that drew me, the words still that comfort me and order my path. I cannot bring them to mind without knowing the breath of God warming me.

Just like a true cultist. You make it all my fault! Pick on my actions and try to make me feel ...sniff...like I'm not good enough because I don't believe or think the way you do. Every time I have an independent thought you smash it and my character down.
You question my critical thinking abilities and free will-apart from any appeal to informed judgment. Who knows, pretty soon you’ll use coercive psychological influence to get me to think the way you do.

It has been determined by a few that the practice of habitual abuse by TBS/GGWO must be stopped. The GG defenders can rail and malign, attempt to silence and discredit. They are quite good at it, as they follow the "determined" on to factnet.. they had years to practice.

Roberta,
I stayed awake last night meditating on Isa 58 after being reminded of it here. Thank you.
As a result, I am going on another fast for the entire church of Christ and the sad state of evangelicalism here in the States particularly - the rampant sin of divorce in the church, the lack of prayer and accountability, and the biting and devouring so common in the church as this board and your own attitude and actions so sadly exemplifies.

Isn't it amazing to learn that Roberta is so all powerful that she can bring sam to his knees in prayer?
I wonder what attitude? What actions? The actions of asking questions? Seeking answers? From her accusers, who, by the way, have failed to answered her questions. Why is it wrong to want people to know that someone cares? That someone can give them information where to go if they have been abused. Why is that wrong sam? What is wrong with passing on numbers?
What is it you are so afraid of? What nerve did she hit? She had to have hit a big one to be attacked like this so badly. Especially by fellow CHRISTIANS. Hows that for a kicker! It isn't by unbelievers it's by brothers and sisters in CHRIST. Makes you feel real good doesn't it? To know that you are ministering God's grace and mercy towards another sister in Christ.
I'm glad you're meditating and fasting. I'm sure you will exemplify God's heart. 1John 4:16

Bonnie,
No, I have not suddenly joined some strange female-deity cult. The credit belongs to the Word of God, alone, as it always has.
The actions of Roberta and her attitudes are evident and need no repeating and she is as answerable to them as are leaders in GGWO who have abused their position.
You ask what scares me.....Christians biting, devouring each other, and trying to destroy ministries of God...of course all in the name of God (or "the children.") It scares me to see so many wounded, embittered, neutralized Christians taken out of action. It scares me to see so many divorces, broken friendships, broken fractured churches. It scares me to see such a cavalier attitude towrads sin and such lack of brokenness and prayer amogst Christians.
This has been my prayer of today:
" Oh God,
I've heard what our ancestors say about you,
and I'm stopped in my tracks,
down on my knees.
Do among us what you did among them.
Work among us as you worked among them!
And as you bring judgment,
as you surely must,
please remember mercy."

Hey Sam Spade, Having you go before God in prayer and fasting for the Church as a whole is more important to me than having you come to agree with me or Roberta or anyone else. All our answers as to what we should be and where we are to fit in His plans are to be found in Him; not in the application of the Word through our own understanding. Sorry ss. Don't buy your explaination. Hiding behind the scriptures in not an excuse for not answering questions. It is a deflection of the truth. A way of changing the subject. You have still not answered Roberta's questions concerning your attack on her. Nor have you honestly answered my questions. Key word here is HONESTLY.
She had to have hit a nerve with you some how or you would not be going after her like this. You would not be defaming her. Spreading rumors, lies, etc about her if she hadn't struck a nerve.
So, again my question to you is..What are you afraid of? What is it you want to stay hidden?
I don't know you. I have no idea who you are. But I gotta tell you, my instincts tell me your covering up something and your scared so your lashing out. And ss, I'm usually right on the money with these things. I've prayed and prayed and everytime the Holy Spirit keeps bringing back to the same thing...cover up.

Mankind. That word should have new meaning for all of us today. We can't be consumed by our petty differences anymore. We will be united in our common interest. Perhaps it is fate that today is the fourth of July and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution, but from annihilation. We're fighting for our right to live, to exist! And should we win the day, the 4th of July will no longer be known as an American holiday, but as the day when the world declared in one voice, "We will not go quietly into the night! We will not vanish without a fight! We're going to live on! We're going to survive! Today, we celebrate our Independence Day!"

I have run I have crawled
I have scaled these city walls
Only to be with you
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
I have kissed honey lips
Felt the healing in her fingertips
It burned like fire
This burning desire
I have spoke with the tongue of angels
I have held the hand of a devil
It was warm in the night
I was cold as a stone
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
I believe in the Kingdom Come
Then all the colors will bleed into one
But yes I'm still running.
You broke the bonds
You loosened the chains
You carried the cross
And my shame
And my shame
You know I believed it
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for
But I still haven't found
What I'm looking for

...The choice usually presented to Christians is not between Jesus and Barabbas. No one wants to appear an obvious murderer. The choice to be careful about is between Jesus and Caiaphas. And Caiaphas can fool us. He is a very "religious" man.
The spirit of Caiaphas lives on in every century of religious bureaucrats who confidently condemn good people who have broken bad religious laws. Always for good reason of course: for the good of the temple; for the good of the church. How many sincere people have been banished from the Christian community by religious power brokers as numb in spirit as Caiaphas.
The deadening spirit of hypocrisy lives on in prelates and politicians who want to look good but not be good....

Eugene Kennedy writes: "The devil dwells in the urge to control rather than liberate the human soul. One can hardly live in these closing years of the twentieth century without realizing how the forces of control have gathered... We stand by a dark forest through which fearful religious leaders would force us to pass in single file through their exclusive pathway of righteousness. They want to intimidate us, make us afraid and hand over our souls to them once more. Jesus saw such shadowed forces as the corrupters of the essential nature of religion of His time. They are no less so all these centuries later."

The way we are with each other is the truest test of our faith. How I treat a brother or sister from day to day, how I react to the sin-scarred wino on the street, how I respond to the interruptions from people I dislike, how I deal with normal people in their normal confusion on a normal day may be a better indication of my revernce for life than the anti-abortion sticker on the bumper of my car....

Brennan Manning has a way of cutting to the core of my soul and re-aligning me with my Savior's heart and my purpose on this earth.
From Chapter 7, Paste Jewelry and Sawdust Hot Dogs
....Honesty brings an end to pretense through candid acknowledgment of our own fragile humanity. It is always unpleasant, and usually painful, and that is why I am not very good at it. But to stand in truth before God and one another has the unique reward. It is the reward which a sense of reality always brings. I know something extremely precious. I am in touch with myself as I am. My tendency to play pseudo-messiah is torpedoed.
To the extent that I reject my ragamuffin identity, I turn away from God, the community and myself. I become a man obsessed by illusion, a man of false power and fearful weakness, unable to think, act or love....

I found some interesting similarities in people sometimes who have shared in some of the experiances I have.
Rich Mullins was one of my hero's and his death was very hard for me. I remember picking up the Christianity Today about his death in Barnes & Nobles in Bel Air.
I think people must have thought I was crazy. I was sitting there in the magazine section weaping.
Two years after I entered GGWO I had an argument with my father in law about Rich's music because it at times is considered Christian Rock. The next morning Pastor Paul got up and sang one of his songs.
My introduction to Rich Mullins came via a friend who had worked with me in bars. He got saved and ended up becoming a minister. Friends who were the most antiGod people would hear my friend sing the version of "Ready For the Storm" rewrote and beg to know more about this subject matter. Amazing what a song can do that words often cannot.
I often will be driving down the road and will flip through the chanels and hit a Christian radio station to hear a song from Rich. I find my soul moved to a different place.
Rich was not just a singer. His work ended up starting churches, and orphan homes for native americans and south americans.
The song I post here is my personal favorite. It expresses those things C. S. Lewis called beyond nature. It is expresses what my heart clings to in this life.

If I Stand
There's more that rises in the morning
Than the sun
And more that shines in the night
Than just the moon
It's more than just this fire here
That keeps me warm
In a shelter that is larger
Than this room
And there's a loyalty that's deeper
Than mere sentiments
And a music higher than the songs
That I can sing
The stuff of Earth competes
For the allegiance
I owe only to the Giver
Of all good things
So if I stand let me stand on the promise
That you will pull me through
And if I can't, let me fall on the grace
That first brought me to You
And if I sing let me sing for the joy
That has born in me these songs
And if I weep let it be as a man
Who is longing for his home
There's more that dances on the prairies
Than the wind
More that pulses in the ocean
Than the tide
There's a love that is fiercer
Than the love between friends
More gentle than a mother's
When her baby's at her side
And there's a loyalty that's deeper
Than mere sentiments
And a music higher than the songs
That I can sing
The stuff of Earth competes
For the allegence
I owe only to the Giver
Of all good things
So if I stand let me stand on the promise
That you will pull me through
And if I can't let me fall on the grace
That first brought me to You
And if I sing let me sing for the joy

We must never allow the authority of books, institutions or leaders to replace the authority of knowing Jesus Christ personally and directly. When religious views of others interpose between us and the primary experience of Jesus the Christ, we become unconvicted and unpersuasive travel agents handing out brochures to places we have never visited.

"Woe to the unfaithful pastor; woe to the negligent steward; woe to the betrayer of sacred interests; woe to them that call evil good and good evil-to all such be woe; not only the woe of outward judgment—-divine and inexorable-but that, if may be, still keener, sadder woe of self-contempt and self-damnation. With such sorrow no stranger may intermeddle. The lesson to ourselves would seem to be this-Do not regard divine judgment merely as measure for measure in relation to your sin-that is to say, so much penalty for so much guilt. It is more than that-it is a quickening of the man into holy resentment against himself, an arming of the conscience against the whole life, a subjective controversy which will not be lulled into unrighteous peace, but will rage wrathfully and implacably until there shall come repentance to life or remorse to death."

Drinking alcohol may not be a sin per se, but drunkenness is. Ephesians 5:18 says "be not drunk with wine wherein is dissipation" and Galatians 5:21 names drunkenness as one of the practices of people who will not inherit the kingdom of God. How about Proverbs 23:29-35, that pretty much sums up God's thoughts on drinking too much wine

Anon.64.12, No one here is advising drunkeness; and some are better to not drink at all. Moderation is the key. You can have too much chocolate, too much orange juice, too much (surprise) study. God has a personal balance that's right for you. One standard does not fit everyone. We walk by faith in the Spirit, not by charts. This isn't meant to be reactionary to your post. Bob,
But too much orange juice or chocolate or study does not have the effects that too much wine does (which is why you don't see bars with people studying, or teenagers partying on orange juice). There are no verses warning against those things. And God has one standard for everyone on drunkenness...don't do it. We live by every Word of God, not our own personal standards.

If here you see open Wickedness, there only Forms of Godliness; if here superficial Holiness, political Piety, crafty Prudence, there haughty Sanctity, partial Zeal, envious Orthodoxy; if almost everywhere you see a Jewish Blindness, and Hardness of Heart, and the Church trading with the Gospel, as visibly, as the old Jews bought and sold Beasts in their Temple; all these are only so many Forms and proper Fruits of the worldly Spirit. Whatever you do, you need courage. Whatever course you decide upon, there is always someone to tell you that you are wrong. There are always difficulties arising that tempt you to believe your critics are right. To map out a course of action and follow it to an end requires some of the same courage that a soldier needs. Whether one is Hindu or a Muslim or a Christian, how you live your life is proof that you are or not fully His. We cannot condemn or judge or pass words that will hurt people. We don't know in what way God is appearing to that soul and what God is drawing that soul to; therefor, who are we to condemn anybody?

The best way to promote union is to promote truth. It will not do for us to be all united together by yielding to one another's mistakes. We are to love each other in Christ, but we are not to be so united that we are not able to see each other's faults, and especially not able to see our own. No, purge the house of God, and then shall good and blessed times dawn on us.
Charles Spurgeon
Bob Brinton (151.203.161.112)

I agree with that quote Nic, but sometimes our own faults cause us to perceive things as faults in others which are not. And even if the Bible is inerrant, our own perceptions of what it means and how it is to be applied are not. We are still frail human flesh, in need of the Spirit's light and guidance. Do you pray over the Word, or do you just go with what is immediately apparent in it? I'm assuming you do pray over it.
Roberta (141.154.144.33)

We don't know in what way God is appearing to that soul and what God is drawing that soul to; therefor, who are we to condemn anybody?"
Mother Teresa (1910 - 1997)
Before I became a Christian I knew other gods, other lifestyles like most of us did and saw the world differently than I did afterward. Mother Theresa urges us to be careful not to judge another's life for we do not know where or how God is revealing himself to others. We cannot know how the Father is wooing the person, or if the person is open to it or not. We don't know what circumstances are in God's will for a person whose heart may be in the process of preparing to recieve Him no matter their race or creed, therefore we must trust that God is in charge. It is a faith walk, loving people of all kinds, knowing that God has a plan for them...it may incude us, or it may not. But God is in control and everyone's life, at one time or another is given opportunity to be face to face with His reality.
If we judge the outward appearance of another's life, be they Christian, Muslim, Buddhist or agnostic, we may possibly be a stumbling block to what God may be trying to reveal to them about Himself. Tolerance doesn't mean leaving them to their own devises, it means having faith the God is in control, and we must not judge God, God's plan or the people He may be working in unbeknownst to us. He loves them, as we must, by faith if by no other way.
This is what Mother Theresa is saying in these few words. "We cannot condemn or judge or pass words that will hurt people. We don't know in what way God is appearing to that soul and what God is drawing that soul to;" The point is, we do not know, we should not judge or say hurtful words to them. God may have planted a seed, God may have come in secret, God may have a good work already started that our harsh words might hinder.
We don't know and we must have faith that God is able to save, in His way, those he will save.
Mother Theresa knew this and I think it is very good advice...no one wants to hinder God's plan for others.

<FONT COLOR="ff0000">"There once was a man named George Thomas, pastor in a small New England town. One Easter Sunday morning he came to the Church carrying a rusty, bent, old bird cage, and set it by the pulpit. Eyebrows were raised and, as if in response, Pastor Thomas began to speak..."I was walking through town yesterday when I saw a young boy coming toward me swinging this bird cage. On the bottom of the cage were three little wild birds, shivering with cold and fright. I stopped the lad and asked, "What you got there, son?" "Just some old birds," came the reply.
"What are you gonna do with them?" I asked.
"Take 'em home and have fun with 'em," he answered. "I'm gonna tease 'em and pull out their feathers to make 'em fight. I'm gonna have a real good time."
"But you'll get tired of those birds sooner or later. What will you do?"
"Oh, I got some cats," said the little boy. "They like birds. I'll take 'em to them."
The pastor was silent for a moment. "How much do you want for those birds, son?"
"Huh?? !!! Why, you don't want them birds, mister. They're just plain old field birds. They don't sing. They ain't even pretty!"
"How much?" the pastor asked again.
The boy sized up the pastor as if he were crazy and said, "$10?"
The pastor reached in his pocket and took out a ten dollar bill. He placed it in the boy's hand. In a flash, the boy was gone.
The pastor picked up the cage and gently carried it to the end of the alley where there was a tree and a grassy spot. Setting the cage down, he opened the door, and by softly tapping the bars persuaded the birds out, setting them free.
Well, that explained the empty bird cage on the pulpit. Then the pastor began to tell this story:
One day Satan and Jesus were having a conversation. Satan had just come from the Garden of Eden, and he was gloating and boasting. "Yes, sir, I just caught the world full of people down there. Set me a trap, used bait I knew they couldn't resist. Got 'em all!"
"What are you going to do with them?" Jesus asked.
Satan replied, "Oh, I'm gonna have fun! I'm gonna teach them how to marry and divorce each other, how to hate and abuse each other, how to drink and smoke and curse. I'm gonna teach them how to invent guns and bombs and kill each other. I'm really gonna have fun!"
"And what will you do when you get done with them?" Jesus asked. "Oh, I'll kill 'em," Satan glared proudly.
"How much do you want for them?" Jesus asked.
"Oh, you don't want those people. They ain't no good. Why, you'll take them and they'll just hate you. They'll spit on you, curse you and kill you. You don't want those people!!"
"How much?" He asked again.
Satan looked at Jesus and sneered, "All your blood, tears and your life."
Jesus said, "DONE!"
Then He paid the price.</FONT>
