As I've said previously, I sympathize with people hurt by graceless practices by leadership at GGWO, one of which was my own son. I despise the motives behind such practices. And I do read and serioulsy consider the doctrine posts, and have the highest respect for Cordell, the Browns, your husband, nonotime...ETC. I have studied these issues a long time.

Yet people cruelly mocking pastor and GGWO people have nothing to do with being wounded or with doctrine. They do not need healing - they need repentance -or maybe just a tiny little dose of their own medicine.

And you would prefer a dysfunctional silence to this obviously nasty abuse? Isn't that a bit retroactive? What's good for the goose is good for the gander. For me, that means honor, for you and for Jack, as well as for Pastor Stevens and GGWO leadership. I have definitely enjoyed reading some of these posts. I definitely need a laugh or two after the depressing stuff on these threads. (I am definitely a GGWO critic!) I am pleasantly surprised at the imaginations and senses of humor on this thread.

On a more serious note, what is everyone thinking about the convention? I'm wondering if anyone has thought about picketing? I know it has been mentioned in one of the threads, but has anyone given it some serious thought? I know it's kind of short notice, but from what I can gather, I don't think many of the people from the branch church's have any idea of the crap that's going on at home base.

A well planned PEACEFUL and LAWFUL picket might just raise a little awareness of the people in the dark. The reaction of the GGWO Mafia might also cause some food for thought. As well as further media coverage....... I want to emphasize PEACEFUL and LAWFUL assembly.

I don't know how it could happen, since so many (including myself!) are fearful of revealing their identities because of friends, family, and loved ones still in the ministry.

I don't think that Carl Stevens could ignore a PEACEFUL and LAWFUL demonstration right on the doorstep. If it was large enough, then he might get a glimpse of the "Mighty Work of God" for real! Plus, it would make a lot of the "out of towners" ask a lot of tough questions. And the lack of tough questions is what has enabled this bastard to continue to abuse people in the Lord's name.

If I weren't so worried about the repurcussions for friends on the inside, I would lead it myself.

Your healing can only occur when allowed to walk out the various phases of grief and apparently you are in the anger phase.

This past week I ran into a former acquaintance from GGWO. Playing "dumb" I asked this individual what was going on at GGWO. They proceeded to tell me the usual scripted deception of "everything's awesome!" I then brought up the Baltimore Sun article of this past May; it was then they proceeded to tell me about a problem which HAD occured about a month ago but was now fine! [what?] Must be some more lying from the pulpit going on! They then proceeded to Biblically "rationalize" this as God "shaking" the church [Hebrews 27] and that I should come back since everyone is called to a "local assembly" and that I was OUT of the geographical will of God by not attending GGWO any longer etc, etc, etc,...blah-blah-blah!

They have different sizes -- I think for around $200 or so you can get already a nicely sized banner if you use their typesetting, but a huge banner will cost more I think. As you go to Kinkos you don't need any artwork, just pick the letters that they have -- big and nicely readable like e.g. black letters on bright yellow background, and the banner is on a type of strong lasting plastic material -- so it will last.
Kinkos is open 24/7 so it may only take a few hours to get the banner done depending how busy they are.

I too was hurt by this ministry but as I shared over and over again I had to let go of things and decide either to live my life for Christ or to hold on to bitternesses and resentments that only would destroy me. I had to know where I was called, and I don't follow a man nor am I "mind controlled." I know there are people who can't breathe without checking with Pastor Stevens first. I feel sorry for them, truly I do, because they worship a man, and I have agreed wholeheartedly with those that have stated that fact that some do 'idolize" and "adulate" Pastor Stevens.

He's not the only Pastor in the USA that this happens to, but it doesn't mean the church is a cult either. If he encouraged it, then perhaps it might fit one criteria on the "how to determine your church is a cult" list.

Louise...17 years you have lived with this built up hatred and resentment. Yes you have a right to post here as well as I do. We won't ever agree, not until you give this over to God. What fruit in your life does it bring you to have so much anger and hatred for such a long time? I'm asking you this because I had to ask myself the same questions. I had different things happen to me than you did. I don't know whose "wounds" were worse and that doesn't matter anyhow. I'm not trying to do a comparison of that fact. I'm also not discounting your wounds and making them secondary to my former ones or anyone else's.

Pain is subjective. Thats not a GGWO doctrine, its one I learned in Nursing School. Just as I can't measure your level of pain, nor could you imagine the level mine was at.

The bottom line here still remains at the issue of the cross. You need to let go of things in order to be healed.

I know my "mind' isn't "controlled." I have stated previously that there is "no" perfect church. None. Only Jesus Christ is perfect. I can only write from what I've experienced and seen.

Sure the posts bother me. There are people that are hurt, there are others who are just trying to agitate everybody on here, whether you are "pro" GGWO or not, they are pushing buttons on purpose to provoke people to wrath and anger.
Its them that are the interference. Not me. One person in defense of GGWO shouldn't be a threat to anybody.

I offer a different perspective than you do. I know you may think I'm deceived, or perhaps even a hateful person. Neither of which is true. And there are probably times I lacked grace in my posts, but I'm no different than anybody else there either.

We all are to have a vertical with God and not be dependent on a man to think or speak for us. That was one thing Pastor Stevens did teach me a long time ago. Believe me every time I've challenged you to "look in the mirror" -- I've already been before that mirror myself.

I don't know about that. My own family humored me quite a bit. As far as children being sexually abused or molested and raped, I really don't know what to think. I was in the "ministry" for about 10 years. I never saw any child-sexual abuse, but who knows, this could have happened. I just don't think that was their schtick while I was there. Joe's poem was not about TBS/GGWO. It was about a brother who longed for his sister who was in a cult. He did good to write a poem. His mother and father, his sisters and brothers didn't want anything to do with it, but he knew enough to write it and he did. I found it very touching...
I want to find out more about the molestation issue. It is shocking to me that this may be going on and I intend to find out more about it when I have time.

"Permission denied" means that either intentionally or by accident permissions were changed on files to allow no one to enter the site. Verified by the fact that other sites on the same server were still up and running. Denial of service attack would shut down all sites on that IP.

First of all, there were so few people on the grounds and most appeared cheerless.

Secondly a friend and myself had the opportunity to visit with an overseas missionary today.
He seemed very happy to see us and was encouraged to be at convention. However, when we mentioned the Baltimore Sun article, to our amazement, he admitted ignorance of its existence.

We saw David Duff and Daniel Lewis; both appeared to have aged tremendously and were VERY preoccupied. I think these posts are REALLY starting to hit home for them. Hopefully, they will come to the realization that they need to "rethink" the structure of this organization and it's "mind and will bending" doctrines.

To close, I'd like to say there was a VERY heavy spirit of sadness within my soul. Having to witness firsthand the convention; which I believe to be a "monument erected" for the glory of this deception, was VERY heartbreaking to behold firsthand.

I can relate to the people who were labeled as trouble makers by GGWO/TBS as teenagers. I was a very troubled teen. Although I grew up in a Christian home there was no love in my upbringing. I grew up feeling very rejected and lonely.
I reached out to God through GGWO than TBS. For the first time in my life I had people who I thought at the time really loved me, I was reading my Bible, and praying. I was closer to God than I'd ever been. For the first time in my life I was truly happy.
Than I met a boy named Joe at youth camp. We hit it off from the start. After camp we kept in contact through phone calls and letters. He helped me through the loneliness and rejection that I felt at home I helped him through the death of his father. We were just good friends but the people at GGWO than TBS thought differently.
When I was old enough I took all the money I had and bought a bus ticket to Baltimore. I was going to the place where people loved me and where I could get closer to God. I was going to become everything that God wanted me to be.
Joe picked me up from the bus station. I was so ready to start my new life. Well, to make a long story short, 2 days later I was basically escorted off of the property and back to the bus station because they didn't think my intentions were genuine. Joe fed into their crap and also dismissed me.
I've struggled with lonliness and rejection all my life. I have a very hard time to this day accepting the fact that anyone even God could love me. I have a hard time trusting anyone and I'm constantly judging people's motives.
Some people are making this message board into something that it should'nt be. I think it should be for those of us who have been hurt to come for love and support.

I have heard from others who are teens now and having problems with the church with being accepted, and adults who experienced much of what you have related here when they were teens in the ministry.

I am sorry these things happened to you. Too many young people who's hearts are full of love and expectation find judgement and disappointment when treated this way. It surely isn't God's heart at all. I know a teenaged boy this happened to at Camp Life. He has a personality all his own, and because he did not submit to the leader's ideas of what he should be, they accused him of improper conduct with a few teen girls who had been following him around all week. This boy's parents have been ministry supporters for over 20 years and I think he had no idea he'd be shunned and accused for his haircut and choice of clothing.

More than anything I am not sure I understand his parent's decision to stay with the ministry in the face of how they hurt their son. To be sure the boy is bitter and turned away fully from a walk with God. How awful.

I pray, SJ that God becomes your pillow at night, your heart will find peace in him, and thanks for sharing your story. I am going to contact this young man and ask hime to read your post...perhaps he'll feel less of an outsider.
