View Full Version : How can we start to heal

How do you even began to heal from this horrible tragedy? Where do we all go from here? It is now hard for you to trust anyone else. The person who you trusted was a man of god was nothing but a fake.... Do you even want to trust again....It is very sad that someone could do this to so many people.......This should be a crime to be an imposter... sommeone find me a good lawyer or something i want this man to go down. I want to see that snake sqirm....

I believe that God will eventually give you other people to be involved with. We need to learn that it is God himself we are to trust, and not other people. We can trust Him at work in others; but they can potentially fall. Organizations or denominations or churches or pastors can go bad. We have to seek focus in the Spirit and inner alliance with what He gives us through the Word.

I would suggest as a starting point that you read the Word, and try to put aside your own and other people's preconceptions on it; and that you spend a lot of time in prayer, even fasting if you can do that. Expect God to give you what and where you should be. You have a right to personally obey Him.

My suggestion about healing is finding a qualified therapist/exit counselor to talk to.

It isn't necessarily a long term discussion one needs to have with a counselor. But the initial visit can do a lot to help you put things into focus, to make some meaning out of the chaos of emotions. The short term discussions my husband and I had with an exit counselor...by phone and for free...were invaluable.

Many will tell you to read your bible, trust God, go to another church etc. While eventually these are the steps you will take, they are not necessarily the easiest thing to do when all your trust has been shattered. The people who are qualified to understand this shattering and the consequenses can be of great help. I will keep you in my prayers.

Contact David Henke for trusted spirit-filled counsel. His wisdom and understanding is invaluable. He knows the GGWO situation and is an expert on spiritual abuse. He has helped many of us.

You are dead on with your advice about therapy and finding the right therapist.
Counseling of this kind is of course considered anathema with Carl Stevens, but that may well prove how valid professional therapy can actually be.

I thought it might be helpful for some looking for counseling to have some places to check out. I have NOT checked these places out to see what they offer for services. I simply did an search on line and found these.

If one of these agencies does not provide the help you are looking for ask them for the name and number of some who can help.

These are secular organizations. many who are coming out of abusive cult like groups are untrusting od Christian counselors at first. I will add a list of Christian counselors to this thread as well for those looking for it.

Hope this helps...it is a start at least.

Dave Drago (68.91.74.17)

Step One:
Remember the Father's love for you.
http://www.fathersloveletter.com/fllnarration.html

1 John 4:9-10 "God showed how much he loved us by sending his only Son into the world so that we might have eternal life through him. 10 This is real love. It is not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to take away our sins."

Step Two:
Rely on Him through prayer to help you sort out, process and begin to answer the question, "What next?"

1 Peter 5:7 "Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about what happens to you."

Step Three:
Realize there are people out there to help you.
I would highly recommend you talk to a certified Christian Counselor in your area. RJ has offered some good places to check into on your own.

Also, you could talk to some Christians who you know and trust that have exited GGWO and are moving forward. Perhaps, you could also form a support group with the assistance of a counselor or church that specializes in this area.

Galatians 6:2-3 "Stoop down and reach out to those who are oppressed. Share their burdens, and so complete Christ's law. 3If you think you are too good for that, you are badly deceived."

Step Four:
Recognize the fact that ultimatey you are responsible to God to begin the process of healing. Many will offer help and advice. We can in love offer free advice (the best thing about it is that it is free http://www.factnet.org/discus/clipart/happy.gif!! But, you have to be proactive.

Romans 14:4 "Who are you to condemn God's servants? They are responsible to the Lord, so let him tell them whether they are right or wrong. The Lord's power will help them do as they should."

Step five:
Rest in the LORD and remember He is in your corner. No matter what. He will never leave you or quit on you.

Romans 8:31-33 "So, what do you think? With God on our side like this, how can we lose? 32If God didn't hesitate to put everything on the line for us, embracing our condition and exposing himself to the worst by sending his own Son, is there anything else he wouldn't gladly and freely do for us? 33And who would dare tangle with God by messing with one of God's chosen?"

Hebrews 13:5b-6 "Since God assured us, "I'll never let you down, never walk off and leave you," 6we can boldly quote,
God is there, ready to help;
I'm fearless no matter what.
Who or what can get to me?"

For Him,
Dave

P.S. Many are praying for you.

My son Dan was telling me that Yankee fans in our area had a new definition of what a sweep is: That if you lost the first game and then won the rest of the series, it was considered a sweep. By this insane new Yankee definition, if the Sox win the next three games, perhaps they will have swept the Yanks. I'm not sure if you were permitted to lose more than one at the beginning. It all sounds like a Greater Grace doctrine to me.

P.S. I was afraid the fat lady was going to start singing in the parking lot during the pregame show last night. But as that old Yankee the Yogi once so profoundly stated, 'It ain't over till it's over.'

Big Papi did it for us again.
I think these guys rely on a divine touch instead of the rugged professionalism of the Yankees......or maybe its just soul power......I don't know, but I do know that they can do it. They have broken records and made records. I've seen them play much better ball than the Yankees.
I know they will fight to the end......at least the fat lady didn't sing in the parking lot and she's not going to till there isn't a breath of hope left!

Glad to hear that! The commentators all say the Cardinals are the best team in history......don't know, it would be fun to have Clemens back at Fenway. I wish Petitte was okay.
I don't know what will happen in Boston if the Sox actually do it......its strange to be going about your business and hear nothing but talk about the Sox. Talk about obsession.

I confess I was up till they won last night...this morning!...it was so much fun to watch the Sox win the game. If they lose the pennant I am still glad I saw last night's game. I am total Sox fan, I admit it.

When I was young and had foolish courage I went to Yankee stadium and wore a Sox cap....ummmm, not such a good idea, that. *LOL*

I am a lifetime Yankee fan, proud of it. I also enjoyed the game...I think it's good for the game when two teams play out a rivalry like the Bosox & Yankees.
As a bigger fan of baseball in general, I would not mind the Sox winning the World Series. Again, great for the game. (Please don't tell my family in New York I said that)

Food for thought to all the Yankee haters, largest payrolls in baseball:
1. Yankees
2. Red Sox

God bless America

Jim... I'd love to see the Astros and the Sox play...what a series that would be.

It would also be fun to see the Yankees and the Astros. You know what the tried and true Sox fan always says..."Yup, don't care who plays, as long as they beat the Yanks!" *LOL*

They should consider suspending Rodriguez. That obviously was a deliberate whack he took at the ball. Time for Lowe to do a little active campaigning for a contract for next year.

you are right about Rodriguez, Bob. After that call on him, they had to bring out the riot police to line the field

A Rod is a dirty player. I thought he was trying to steal signs by standing too close to the guy at bat in a previous game. There was no circle for him to stand in, and he kept inching closer and closer. I wondered if the ump or Varitek said anything to him.

I'd rather loose then cheat. I know, I know, someone will say something about some Sox player who did somethng just as dirty.......but I haven't seen anything as outrageous as what A Rod did last night. We should all play clean. Even here at Factnet! Even though we have freedom of speech!

The tension is making me tired!

Did anyone see Shilling's sweet testimony after the game? He said he became a Christian seven years ago and game one he was out on that mound but last night's game God was there!

I feel like everytime we go to the playoffs I am watching the supernatural playing ball! God and curses, announcers speaking about eerie atmospheres.. Angels in the Outfield, demons lurking in the Yankee stands.. only in America and only with the Red Sox!

How many of us have dear departed loved ones who died wishing for just one series win? I know my Dad was watching that game last night. (And I know he was wearing his Sox baseball cap cuz we sent it with him!)

Sick of Steinbrenner buying a pennant. What do you think the Red Sox did? Their payroll is #2 after the Yankees at about 130 million.

I am far from a sore loser. I have given the Sox their do. I have even stated on this thread, I wouldn't mind seeing the Sox win it all for the good of the game. Comes with being a true baseball fan.
I just don't think 63.27.95 can argue about the Yankees payroll, when the Sox are number 2. Someone is going to be number 1 until baseball agrees to a salary cap, long needed in the game.

Bosox vs. Astros would be exciting to watch!

You're right 68. I'm glad that the Sox can spend the money to field such a good team, and I understand the Yankees doing what they can to field a better one. It really makes you think though about places like Montreal, Minnesota and Pittsburgh; that have fielded reasonably competitive teams without the money. And speaking of that, I still wonder why the Sox didn't go after Felipe Alou when he was available. But I think we're going to make it this year. And I'm not against the Astros; but we have some issues to settle with seventh game Series losses to the Cards (46/67). I will admit, though, that I rooted for the Cards in 67. Bob Gibson was one of my pitching heroes. The next year he had a 1.12 ERA. You have to go back quite a way to find a starter with one that low.

Well we can forgive you for that, Bob, because in 67 you weren't old enough to know better. Don't try it again though.

The Sox aside for a moment.......whats happening in the Newark church is really racheting up huh? I don't read too much on those threads but they are always near the top so I started reading a bit. Sounds like the group of dissidents are much like the catholics here tht have created an organization called the Voice of the Faithful.....they have been quite effective dealing with the obstinancy of the higherups. Putting pressure as a group on the big wigs has reaped some good things for them. Also, they have withheld money.

I wonder if they are really as organized as it sounds. Have you succeeded in getting the attention of the big guy?
