Any thoughts about this new movie?
I just saw it and just as I expected, this is worldliness passed off as biblical Christianity. We see the worship of power, ambition, success, money, etc. nothing that was permitted in the churches of the New Testament, but things that are common place in most professing Christian churches today. We see a man with a hit song called something like “I’ll Undress You” or “You Undress Me” (I don’t remember) who dances very provocatively in his shows with half dressed stripper-like women who make sexually suggestive dance poses. Then astonishingly this man is welcomed back into the church BECAUSE OF HIS FAME AND POWER instead of being called to deep repentance.
Never once was the Gospel of Jesus Christ ever presented in this movie. There was NOT even a remote mention of man’s desperate need for salvation through Christ. There is NO mention of the utter sinfulness of man and the fact that the Bible says that none of us are good, not one and no one can save himself. NO mention of Jesus Christ’s complete payment for our sins through his shed blood at the cross. NO mention of the fact that if we do not put our full faith and trust in Jesus for salvation, we are eternally lost. THAT IS THE GOSPEL. This move is anything but.
Yes, there were pretty faces and fairly good acting, adequate cinematographic direction, decent production values and decent visuals. The story would be considered entertaining by many. But we have enough entertainment. This title of this move, The Gospel, promises what it simply does NOT deliver.
I think this movie will certainly inspire the false church and the kingdoms of men disguised as genuine churches of Christ to keep doing what they are doing: leading people down the wide road, not the narrow way of the real Jesus of the Bible.
