I wish I was going to the Chapel.But I am going to Palm Sunday Mass at a Benedictine Monastery as well as Easter vigils, where we symbolically wait in the early morning hours of the day, and listen to the Gospel reading of the events surrounding the finding of the open tomb. It is beautiful.

No Easter! No eggs, only the celebration of our risen Lord!

we celebrate easter in our worship as a day of gladness and not of sorrow. we will have communion this sunday. we do have things for the children such as egg hunts but they all now that there is nothing in the easter story about eggs. we do not have a easter bunny as we do not have a santa at christmas. we celebrate these days ONLY as a holiday and not a religious one. CHRIST IS THE ONE AT CHRISTMAS AND CHRIST IS THE ONE AT EASTER no one else.

To have a correct idea of the Easter celebration and its Masses, we must remember that it was intimately connected with the solemn rite of baptism. When the number of persons to be baptized was great, the sacramental ceremonies and the Easter celebration were united. This connection was severed at a time when, the discipline having changed, even the recollection of the old traditions was lost. The greater part of the ceremonies was transferred to the morning hours of Holy Saturday. This change, however, did not produce a new liturgical creation adapted to the new order of things. The old baptismal ceremonies were left untouched and have now, apparently, no other reason for preservation than their antiquity. The gap left in the liturgical services after the solemnities of the night had been transferred to the morning of Holy Saturday was filled in France, Germany, and in some other countries by a twofold new ceremony, which, however, was never adopted in Rome.--

First, there was the commemoration of the Resurrection of Christ. At midnight, before Matins, the clergy in silence entered the dark church and removed the cross from the sepulchre to the high altar. Then the candles were lit, the doors opened, and a solemn procession was held with the cross through the church, the cloister, or cemetery. Whilst the procession moved from the altar to the door, the beautiful old antiphon, "<font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font><font color="ff0000">•</font> Rex gloriae", was sung, the first part softly (humili ac depressâ voce), to symbolize the sadness of the souls in limbo; from Advenisti desiderabilis the singers raised their voices in jubilation whilst the acolytes rang small bells which they carried.

When the procession returned, in many churches the "Attollite portas" (Ps. xxiii) was sung at the door, in order to symbolize the victorious entry of Christ into limbo and hell. After the procession Matins were sung. In later centuries the Blessed Sacrament took the place of the cross in the procession. This ceremony is, with the approval of the Holy See, still held in Germany on the eve of Easter with simpler ceremonies, in the form of a popular devotion.

Second, the visitation of the Sepulchre. After the third lesson of the Nocturn two clerics, representing the holy women, went to the empty sepulchre where another cleric (angel) announced to them that the Saviour was risen. The two then brought the message to the choir, whereupon two priests, impersonating Peter and John, ran to the tomb and, finding it empty, shoed to the people the linen in which the body had been wrapped. Then the choir sang the "Te Deum" and the "Victimae paschali". In some churches, e.g. at Rouen, the apparition of Christ to Mary Magdalen was also represented. Out of this solemn ceremony, which dates back to the tenth century, grew the numerous Easter plays. (Nord-Amerikanisches Pastoralblatt, Oct., 1907, p. 149, has a long article on these two ceremonies.) The Easter plays in the beginning used only the words of the Gospels and the "Victimae paschali"; in the course of development they became regular dramas, in Latin or vernacular verses, which contained the negotiation between the vender of unguents and the three women, the dialogue between Pilate and the Jews asking for soldiers to guard the Sepulchre, the contest of Peter and John running to the tomb, the risen Saviour appearing to Magdalen, and the descent of Christ into hell. Towards the end of the Middle Ages the tone of these plays became worldly, and they were filled with long burlesque speeches of salve-dealers, Jews, soldiers, and demons (Creizenach, Gesch, des neuen Dramas, Halle, 1893).

The procession combined with the solemn Second Vespers of Easter Sunday is very old. There was great variety in the manner of solemnizing these Vespers. The service commenced with the nine Kyrie Eleisons, sung as in the Easter Mass, even sometimes with the corresponding trope lux et origo boni. After the third psalm the whole choir went in procession to the baptismal chapel, where the fourth psalm, the "Victimae paschali", and the Magnificat were sung: thence the procession moved to the great cross at the entrance to the sanctuary (choir), and from there, after the fifth psalm and the Magnificat were sung, to the empty sepulchre, where the services were concluded. The Carmelites and a number of French dioceses, e.g. Paris, Lyons, Besançon, Chartres, Laval, have, with the permission of the Holy See, retained these solemn Easter Vespers since the re-introduction of the Roman Breviary. But they are celebrated differently in every diocese, very much modernized in some churches. At Lyons the Magnificat is sung three times. Why can't Godchild find something to write that she knows about?

I love the way Godchild uses the Catholic encyclopedia as if it were proclamations by the Magisterium!

In nay case, in this instance, it basically agrees with Pastor Murray's opinion about the subject.

If she really watched the program rather than listening to rumors, she would know what Pastor Murray really says about it.

In any case, I really enjoyed the Palm Sunday Mass, and there was NOTHING in the Mass that clashed at all with Chapel teachings, as they read straight out of the Bible, the Gospel account of the entry into Jerusalem, just as Pastor Murray reads it.

Funny how Godchild finds so many things wrong with so many things that are Christian.

The only reason that Godchild posted her stuff about easter is to try and convince us she is "normal" and doesn't really dislike anyone who belongs to any Church.
However, if you read her posts, she has a problem with any Church, no matter what it is. That's why she doesn't belong to one, and that is why she even blows off taking Communion, even though Jesus said it MUST be done.

How can anyone listen to someone with such an extreme view of Churches? She hates them all!

Smyrna: The idea that it is okay to lie TO ANYBODY, and the fact they see us a non-Christians ("pagans")gives us the answer as to why they deliberately lie to us and about us.

They know they lie, we have shown them, they ignore the evidence, and now we know why: they think it is not a sin to lie to us.

See, this is hypocrisy also. They call us racists, they call us anti-semitic, yet they are just as prejudiced as racists and anti-semites and behave exactly the same way, because they see us as less than themselves, as superior to us.

I know, they will come back and say we claim that we are the elect, blah blah blah.

Yet,this is another lie. Only God can judge us, not ourselves. We can and do strive to be counted among the elect, but we cannot proclaim that we are. If any SC student does this, they are in error and not reflecting the teachings of the
Bible.

In any case, we can see that because we have found that they think it is okay to lie to those they see as less than themselves, we can use this always as a way to show they have NO credibility in anything they say.

I suspect that they will try and say the Fox represents false teachers in their game, etc. but the very idea that they think it is okay to lie is certainly embedded in their minds. WE have NEVER told anyone that it is okay to lie, and neither has Pastor Murray.

I would think the fact that we have found a reason behind the madness, the reason why the CBers don't have any problem lying nor do they care whether they are caught lying or not, would usurp the issue of who goes to Easter sunrise services or not, or who colors eggs for the kids to look for.

</font>As I se it, the harm is there since God separated the Israelites away from Egypt and their gods. They worshipped the 'sun'.

The Passover happens and Israel is free'd from the sun god. Remember the Passover ('tis today by the way)and don't worship God by following the example of the heathen sun worshipers.

We worship The Son....who's light was shining down on us long before their created sun god was.

Let's not mix. Christian society already mixes in the most sacred day, with chocolate eggs and bunnies... not to mention the Saviors birth celebration...turned into commercialism and santa.

We should keep the celebration true. Let's not celebrate the Egyptian gods anymore David.

Christians don't gather to worship the sun. Sunrise worship for Easter morning is in observance of the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ. The women went to the tomb in the morning before the sun was shining. Jesus was no longer in the grave. He is risen!!!

Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord.

Joshua rose early in the morning; and they removed from ****tim, and came to Jordan, he and all the children of Israel, and lodged there before they passed over.

And Gideon said unto God, If thou wilt save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said, behold, I will put a fleece of wool in the floor; and if the dew be on the fleece only, and it be dry upon all the earth beside, then shall I know that thou wil save Israel by mine hand, as thou hast said.

How about your attempt to spread a completely false and unprovable rumor that some ex-Chapel employee caught Pastor Murray "grove worshiping" in his barn. Would you like to see that placed in its proper context, which is showing how whacked out you are?

Maybe you'd also like to see your misuse of the word 'martyr', and your subsequent failed attempt to claim you were using it in "casual conversation" rather than in a "religious, academic" context, in which your attempt to use the term was actually placed.

EASTER BUNNY STEW

This is a tasty stew worth rising from the dead for. You can fix this crowd-pleaser in a snap, a snap that starts when you snap the neck of a cute little fuzzy bunny rabbit. Don't waste your time at the grocery store trying to find fresh bunny though. With a stack of carrots, you can turn killing rabbits into a fun game for your children. Give each of your kids a Louisville Slugger baseball bat and teach them to club them "seal style." In this way, your children will be tenderizing the bunnies with each deadly blow.

Cover and cook over low heat for no less than four days.

Before serving, ladle a holidy glaze over the stew by heating a brick of Velveeta cheese-product with mini-marshmallows, two cups of brown sugar, a Three Musketeers bar, and a can of Diet Pepsi until they are all gooey, but not boiling. Embed two handfuls of General Mill's Trix breakfast cereal into the glaze. Voila! Easter dinner is served.

But I live in Louisiana, and they eat rabbit and hunt for them quite a bit down here. I've never eaten rabbit here at home, but I did eat rabbit in France a few years ago.

Did you hear that someone stole the penis from a nude, anatomically correct chocolate sculpture of Jesus Christ? Of course I know the true meaning of Easter. On the morning of Easter Sunday Jesus comes out of the ground. Then the preacher tells us if Jesus saw his shadow. Personally, I think it should be the North Koreans.

Thank you Watchman. While Pesach continues until 4/10, my seders are done.

My new seder was well received. I re-wrote my Haggadah and got multiple compliments on it. Both of the children present recited the Four Questions well, in Hebrew. I am still feasting on Pesach leftovers for lunch and I have yet to even crack open the mandel bread. This was the first seder that I put on in a long time that didn’t have any Christians there. So, I was able to go more traditional and not spend any time reviewing basic concepts.

My mother’s seder on the other hand…Oy! It was chaos. My parents each had different styles plus one of the guests attempted to lead it herself. Having three leaders attempt to lead simultaneously made for a chaotic seder. For another memorable moment, after the blessing, we ran out of horseradish. One guest was extremely put out by that and made loud (and rude) comments about it throughout the rest of the seder. Like she couldn’t eat her brisket without it being slathered in horseradish? Like the rest of us had to be continually reminded that she liked horseradish and we were out? Oy!

My reality almost matches Dodge’s creativity.

When I arrived at the convent, the Mother Superior checked me to see if I was in possession of my hymen and then asked me to describe my sins in detail to the father. My punishment was to be wrapped in thorns, locked in a box and forced to fellate the priest. After these assaults on my innocence, I ran away from the convent. I attempted to tell this to the local authorities, but I was labeled mad and returned to the convent. So instead of admitting that she stuck her foot in her mouth again (like what's new)she then begins complaining about how Pastor Murray doesn't wear robes or dresses up his Church.

Maybe she can ask the Minister of the Community Church she says she is going to, except she apparently hasn't been there yet, the same question. She can also ask any number of the Protestant, Fundamentalist Churches, who may even say they don't copy what the Jews do!

Hi All! This will be my first post to this website. I hope that all of you had a Blessed Passover! I at one time use to call it Easter, but that was before I learned the truth by being in my Father's Word. I know that Easter, which in the Webster's College dictionary is defined as a heathen holiday, and the only time it is used in the Bible is in Acts 12:4. It has the same meaning in Greek (Pascha #3957 in the Strong's Concordance) as Passover does. For those who need further proof how our God really feels about it they can find it in Ezekiel 8:9-16. With the Strong's Concordance you will find that Shaphan in verse 11 means rabbit, and in verse 14 Tammuz means Phoenician deity (fertility goddess). With the 16th verse we also learn how God feels about sunrise service. As a child I grew up hunting Easter eggs, and believing in the Easter bunny, and when my children were young they did the same. I was ignorant of the Word, but not any more. For the few of you out there that feel that there is no harm in it. All I have to say is that God, in that same chapter of Ezekiel, states that He finds it an abomination! Tell me how are rabbits and eggs connected with our Lord Jesus' ultimate sacrifice, dying on the cross for all of us. As for me and my family we will no longer do Easter egg hunts on Passover. Paul tells us in 1 Corinthians 5:7 Christ is our Passover, and He is the One we will be glorifying and celebrating on His very special day as well as every day.

To comment on what you wrote about easter, though I agree with what you said, I also think that the kids that dye easter eggs, get baskets, etc. don't have a clue about the history of those traditions.

I also definitely am aware that the vast majority don't know that the word 'Easter' is only used one time in the KJV Bible,(a mistranslation) and what the history of the word is.

What the kids do know that go to Church at least, is that we are celebrating the Resurrection of Christ.
I say the traditions of easter eggs and all that would be dangerous only if the pagan rituals where they came from were advocated and practiced.

On another subject, I hope you have tough skin, in other words, I hope you can take people insulting you, and lying about you. Because this is not a very friendly place to be for Shepherd's Chapel students. Quite frankly, this is a war zone.

Hi again all! Thanks so much for all your nice welcomes! I am so glad to finally be able to post on this site with you. As to how I found your site, back in February I was trying to find the times for Shepherd's Chapel's Church Services for this Passover. My search engine brought up a listing for your Shepherd's Chapel Students forem at this web site. I registered to become a member that same day, but the web site never sent me a registration activation key. After a couple of days on not receiving it I went ahead and registered again with the same results. I was beginning to feel that maybe God did not want me at this site for some reason because for almost two months I received no key in my email to activate my membership. As it turned out we did not get to go to Shepherd's Chapel for Passover this past weekend. Instead we stayed home, then last night (Passover) while I was on eBay's community chat line I decided to check my email again. And there it was sent to me on Passover Day at 8:30pm my registation activation key! It's all so strange that while hunting information for Passover Services I found your site, and was finally able to post on Passover Day! I believe that God does want me here!

As to this being a war zone please don't worry, I have my Father's armor on and it fits good and tight! And I will not let a few loose ends out there shake me! This will be good practice for me for what lays ahead. I hunger for my Father's Word every day after years of starvation, and will be glad to be able to chat with other's who have had the blinders taken off their eyes too!

Smyrna, as far as bunnies, and dying and hunting eggs I see no harm in each alone, but I think it needs to be done at a different place and time. Not at church, and not on Passover. I agree with all you said. It would be so good for children to be taught the meaning and history behind these traditions. The commercialization of Easter and Christmas is disturbing. I myself celebrate Christmas on September 29th, with no fanfare, but just with prayer.

Thanks Smyrna, for the interesting and informative web address! I have heard it said that instead of December being the month Jesus was born in, it was really September instead. And that it was on or sometime around December 25th that He was conceived. Life begins with conception! Even though it may not be the actual date when Jesus was born, I believe we should not only celebrate our Savior's birth, but also the first moment His life began in that tiny unborn baby! Later He gave His precious life for all of us. I see no harm in giving to others at home or at Church just so long as everyone knows that Jesus is the true Reason for the Season.
