This has been bandied around FACTnet and MySpace for the past week. A few things to consider...

Attorney fees: There are attorneys who handle cult related cases. Do any of them do Pro Bono work?

CFCMI By-Laws: These would not stand up in a court of law.IMO. Their anti-lawsuit by-laws carry about as much weight as signing a waiver in order to participate in a sporting event. They often do not stand up in court, either.

Assets: At this point, I do not think money is the issue. I think this suit would be about: emotional distress, lack of compensation, slavery, false imprisonment abuse etc.

Statute of Limitations/Burden of Proof: This would vary according to the crime. Civil suits do not demand as heavy a burden of proof as a criminal case. Only those who were in CFCMI can know ALL of the wrongdoing that was done. Some crimes in Virginia have NO statute of limitations--NOT JUST MURDER!

Insiders: Our friend from My Space makes the point that only the accountants and pastors know of the accounting practices and expenditures. Are there any past accountants who walked out and who would be party to any potential lawsuits? I wonder!

How can a case be built? Can a case be built?

Don't assume something is impossible until you try. All things are possible with God!

Have a happy 4th everyone!

I will emphatically disagree with the "myspace guy" in his assertion there is "nothing left" in terms of financial assets of CFCMI.

I think they have PLENTY of assets. Do NOT underestimate APPEARANCES of things...it wasn't ALL filtered for personal uses.

It's too bad nobody demanded their rightful full disclosure of church spending, and Ed was allowed to pass off his "salary from special funds" arguement as valid. Come on!! What a bunch of lying pigs!

REAL churches give a specific accounting of WHERE money goes, including salaries of those employed by the church. CFCMI is nothing but one big money-making scam. It's so obvious!! And if I were Jesus, I'd be pretty ****ed off they were using "church" to financially, physically and spiritually rape people.

And yet it's so bizarre how they claim to be the "chosen" ones; preaching their baptism and LR's twisted scripture as the only way to salvation.

They have been hillbilly swindlers for over 30 years; all the while "crying poor." I don't buy any of their BS. File the lawsuit and see how fast they're willing to settle out of court.
