My wife is part of a cult in Maine known as Anchor Missionary Fellowship. I used to attend there as well. In the last two years she became completely disconnected from her family (she actually sent a disconnect email to her mother that included correspondance she had with the cult leader named Ardith Keef.) She was also separated from my family.
Shortly before our youngest son was born I left the group. I just couldn't take it anymore. We kind of managed, but it was not good. In December of '07 she took our youngest son to live with the cult group at their headquarters. I'm "allowed" (by her, no court judgements yet,) to see my son 2 hours per week. The older boys, aged 11 and 4, are not allowed to see their brother at all (it's been 4 months!!!)
Recently she showed some evidence of wanting her marriage back and a willingness to go to marital counseling. As that was being set up she slams me with a restraining order (she did not show up to defend it and it was dropped.) Then she started talking to outsiders (including her family and my family) then stopped that. Now, after we had spent a little time together, she has started shunning me again.
I have decided to file for a divorce. I hate to, because I really love my wife, but I just don't see any other options. I can't keep having the kids put through this.
This group has a long history of broken marriages and some strange practices (a "spiritual marriage" in the Ukraine on a mission trip, for instance, between people that were legally married to other people) and I am extremely concerned about what my wife may be getting into. The problem is there is certainly nothing I can do about it but pray.
Anyway, if your in Maine, I'd watch out for Anchor Missionary Fellowship. It's a very dangerous group that lies to cover itself and steals families away.
