I think Tony has emotionally & spiritually scarred so many people, so deeply and that those scars will be felt for generations. It will take many, many years for the loathing and the hatred of Tony Alamo to subside enough to allow so many of us the bliss of forgetting him.

Well, Jimmy Swaggart is pretty much a cut-rate version of Jimmy Swaggart, so i suppose the comparison is quite appropriate.

In response to another reply on this thread, I'm gonna reread the book of Joel and see just what it's about. Let's see what Comrade Alamo's take on it, and find out "how it lines up with the Word of God," as an OC I knew was so fond of saying.

To tell the truth, I never got any message about a righteous army in the book of Joel. Seemed to be more of a warning about pestilences coming on the earth. Come to think of it, maybe it was about tonee.,,

The weird thing about this, I've heard of Tony Alamo, but had no idea he had a compound some 20 miles from where I live. This made the front page of the Texarkana Gazette yesterday. The whole front page was basically this incedent, plus several other pages. I go to the town where his compound is, to work sometimes, there's only 800 people in that town, yet I was unaware of this compound.

Tony, or properly Bernie was this Missouri jewish kid who first wanted to be an italian singer in the fashion of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennet.
He changed his name and according to his own legend sang with a band. I've never found his records on EBAY so I doubt it. He wound up in LA LA LAND ( L.A. for us natives) during the hieght of the Cults and realised it was a profitable gig. He soon started collecting his share various walking wounded as followers, much like the Hare Krishnas, Charlie Manson, REV Moon, Lyndon La Rouche and assorted other really neat, altruistic people.
You would see them around town, acting like zombies, handing out these stream of consciousness tracts of psuedo religious hate diatribes and asking for money for hungry children.
I met Bernie/Tony once. I felt the same primal , back of the neck start growling as you back out the door reaction when I later attended Jim Jone's church ONCE in San Francisco.
