> But again, to the point: what's the significance of clicking these
> links?
Dear Scott,
The journalists who are covering this scandal need to know that there is
profit in covering Scientology scandals. Vistitor clicks to their stories
are monitored by their tech-heads and then presented to their auditing
departments. This is the way they track topics worth pursuing.
This encourages them to write more of the same. Since the way a newpaper
earns money is to present audited sales to potential advertisers to induce
them to advertise in said newspaper. i.e. The larger the audited sales are,
the more likely it is that Ford Motor Compant will place an advertisement in
your newspaper with its massive circulation.
The equivalent numbers game for an online newpaper is the amount of eyeballs
(clicks) they can get. Everyone wants more clicks. They want stories athat
will bring the requisite eyeballs to their online newspaper. If ytou click
on these stories you are telling these people two things:
1/ Keep the story going. (Because it is still bringing in the clicks.)
2/ Find more stories about the same topic. (Because it will bring in more
clicks.)
....and if you leave a comment on as many of these sites as is possible then
you compound the effect. A simple "Well done on this great story! The world
needs to know more about this insidious bunch of ....etc. Please write some
more stories for us about Scientology. I would be immensely grateful....etc)
i.e. Give them a warm fuzzy.
This is how a small lever can shift the earth. Believe in your democratic
right to speak freely and without fear. Make democracy work.
.....errrrm. The last bit was to get Scott's juices flowing so that he can
go out and leap tall buildings.
Anyway, hear is an updated list:
