Someone said that AltaVista was producing biased results for the search word
"scientology". We looked and we confirmed. We then decided to test "Lisa
McPherson"

We knew full well that these results are provided by http://www.overture.com
. We confirmed this. We still have an axe to grind with Overture. They used
to be called GoTo and we wrote an article about their synergistic
relationship with Scientology previously at

The crux of what we are attempting to say is that the fact that Scientology
is willing to pay to get through this poisonous message to as many people as
is possible implies that the Lisa McPherson case is far from over. CoS is
treating is seriously.

It is incumbent on someone with deep pockets and benevolent intent to
empower a pay-per-click alternative to what is currently occuring.

Overture feeds results to:Yahoo!, MSN, America Online, Netscape, AltaVista,
Lycos/HotBot, Ask Jeeves, CompuServe, EarthLink etc...

i.e. They affect almost every large Search-Engine or Directory apart from
Google.
