CLearly, the Republican Party is a cult, as "cults" are defined here at factnet.org.

Any horror stories from deprogrammed conservatives out there?

This is the first time I've admitted that for the first time in my life, I will be voting Democratic in the next election. I've thought a great deal about this. There were no weapons of mass destruction and has never been a tie between bin Laden and Iraq (perhaps now there is). Our boys are dying over there for no reason except Bush wants to please his daddy. There is too much secrecy. I have no faith in President Bush and his team. Please, find me a good Republican, like Reagan, to vote for and I'll gladly stay with my party. Janet.

Thank God for Bush! He has made our country strong again. The US has been at war for years and never realized it. Khober Towers, the US Cole, the bombing of American embassies in Africa, and on and on. It took the World Trade Center disaster to wake us up. Does anyone in their right mind actually think that Libya would’ve come clean before we cleaned house in Iraq?

I give full credit to President Bush for making the Iraqi people safer and giving them a chance at a better life. It is too bad that people equate media coverage with failing policy. Saddam was busy filling mass graves with his own people as quick as he could. He did not let reporters cover the events.

Yaakov, I almost always agree with you, but not about this.

America does let reporters cover the events. That is the difference, and may it always be so, although there are those in the Bush regime who would change that if they could, make no mistake.

It remains to be seen whether Bush "has made our country strong again". That may depend upon how one defines "strong".

Currently, it very much looks as if Bush and his incompetent but hyperzealous neocon ideologues have done more to destroy the Iraqi house than to "clean" it. And I don't think that deplorable situation can be laid at the feet of
"media coverage". I don't know anyone in his right mind who could.

Janet, good for you. It can be difficult to make such a serious judgment, as the posts from Anonymous and Yaakov make clear.

By the way Anonymous, if you choose not to vote for Bush you have other options besides John Kerry. There is a whole slate of Republican candidates who have stepped up to challenge Bush's presidential bid. Not surprisingly, neither the GOP leadership nor the mainstream media make much or any mention of them.

If you are a conservative, and do not believe Bush is properly representing your values (say, if you are against the expansion of big government, or wild deficit spending etc), you spite no one but yourself by voting for him. All you will do is drive the Republican Party further away from its historic principles.

I have never been one to believe in conspiracy theories, I actually thought that those who did were just paranoid. But since the impeachment of President Clinton, the theft of the election in 2000, the draining of our economy, the absolute disregard for the laws of this nation, and the use of illegal aliens to foster support (and votes) for this administration in the eyes of immigrants (especially in Florida, California, Texas and other “high traffic” illegal alien states) I am now one of the paranoid. I live in Broward County, Florida and have seen first hand the impact of GWB’s short-sited “vote trolling” techniques. Bush is using illegals in order to get re-elected. The Cubans and immigrants from other third world countries are rallying behind this president in order to achieve their own goals, which are very transparent and have nothing to do with the betterment of the United States of America. It is no coincidence that Howard Stern was removed from the airwaves in Florida. His Anti-Bush statements were very strong and very succinct. I am amazed at the amount of freedoms lost to the average citizen at this period of our history. The republicans motto should be “don’t confuse us with the truth, at least Bush didn’t have sex in the White house”. Why can’t anyone see the Clinton years for what they were? The best and most prosperous time in American history that was not initiated by a major war or conflict. No credit was given to Clinton for this amazing achievement. A budget surplus? How could Reagan be credited for this? He can’t, but don’t tell that to a republican. All problems we have today are blamed on Clinton and his one personality flaw. I’m sure Bush would blame him for Iraq if the spin was good enough. I am amazed at the lack of interest in investigating Bush’s illegal dealings with big business, misuse of Government agencies (illegally having detractors probed by the I.R.S. F.B.I and others), squandering the budget surplus, destroying our foreign policy, eradicating our national resources, and wiping out civil rights in the name of national security. And what about his personal credibility? Drunk driving, avoiding service in Vietnam, AWOL from the Texas air nation guard, cocaine use, become first president in US history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously go bankrupt, All-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign donations, use of ENRON corporate jet to campaign in 2000 and then deny knowing Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation, changed US policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts, declared the “end of major conflict” in Iraq after landing on an air craft carrier for a photo op (against all objections from the Secret Service and other agencies assigned to protect him), only to lose over 600 more troops since that speech, the list goes on and on. Forget the fact that my 5 year old son was pronouncing the word nuclear as “nucular”. The man embarrasses himself every single time he opens his mouth. Please keep sounding off, this has got to end. If you need more Bush facts check out http://bushandcheneysuck.com/George-W.-Bush-Resume.htm or ANY web site that can show records and stats about this abysmal president and administration.

Yakov, Washington filled mass graves with a million Iraqis - mostly children - via the sanctions.

Saddam (who was backed by Washington during the Iran-Iraq War when he also gassed the Kurds) could not compete with that.

At the same time, mass graves were discovered in Guatemala of people murdered by the Washington-backed tyranny there. Funny thing, the US did not invade to "liberate" Guatemala...

And of course now we see that Bush's invasion only made Iraqis LESS safe. As the experts predicted, guerrilla war is making the country ungovernable.

The Bush Oil Junta will be driven out & hundreds of thousands will have died in vain
due to the greed of the US oil industry & the craveness of the Dems in Congress.

You idiots dont know your head from your ass! I would rather have Bush in the whitehouse then that flip flopper John Kerry. I will Gladly vote for Bush

Anonymous, May I give you advise? Before you make assumptions about Kerry you should do some research. Bush like a typical fundamentalist dry drunk, contradicts himself, and if you want to talk about flip floppers you should look at Bush.

Bush flip flopped on Social Security, saying he wasn't going to privatization of SS, after he so called "won" the election, he jumped the gun pushing for privatize SS.

Look at his "No Child Left Behide" act, first he was for it then he dropped it. Is that not another example of flip flop? If your argument is "Kerry a flip flopper cause he was for the war then againest it." Wrong again! If you recall in 2002 VP Cheney went to the senate ,lied to every senators like John Kerry about the "Yellow Cake" report.

If your a typical conservative who blindnessly believe anything the Republican machine spits in you face. Then I suggest questioning yourself.

As Lewis Black puts it "What f***ing drug are these Bush supporters taking that makes them so damn delusional!"

James, we need you in the Republican Party thread under Corporations. :-)

One problem is there is no exit counseling for Republicans. Many people like identifying with the sociopathic political cult leader who can get away with every abuse & every lie. Hitler & Mussolini were popular too & they remain so with some people. Not easy issues.
