JRS gathered people in, in the name of the grace of God.
Marilyn forced people out, under the auspices of "creating a pure atmosphere," which really was a thinly disguised motive of control, pressure to conform to her party line, and a desire to be the recipient of the force of each person's individual spirit.
She left a legacy of torn and wounded people in her wake, but it's unlikely that she ever gave it a second thought. |

Yes, I do remember Marilyn asking us to give her our spirits so she could use them. Of course I would not! Ever!
A friend of mine, who also was in the Walk, likened Marilyn to Queen Athaliah (2 Kings 11), when she would "read people out of the Body". I always found her scary. It was a visceral, gut reaction. There was a ruthlessness about her that did not "compute" with what I understood to be "Christian". Because I was a Christian BEFORE I ever was in the Walk, and my ultimate loyalty was, and is, to the Lord Jesus Christ.
Did she give it a thought? Not for me to judge, but I have often wondered, in her quiet moments, does she realize what she did, and that she and Gary bear a lot of responsibility, simply because they WANTED that responsibility. So, the question is, does she sleep at night?
I often felt that Vere Thomas should have received the mantle of JRS, or, if not him, someone like Brent Finney or John Miller -- good men all. To me she was a usurper and a destroyer, and God will sort all that out.
