I attended last night's service with my sister and her husband. CHS spoke about a time in Maine that he (and some other pastors, I presume) cast out 35 demons. First, they weeded them down to a final 10, and eventually all of them. I was not sure it they were "cast out" of a person, place, or thing. He got P. Schallor to confirm that this did indeed happen, and also a lady (an old timer) in the body. He asked the lady what the demons said and she stated that they said, "Leave us alone." Long story short, I got into a heated argument with the sister and her husband on the way home when they said, "Wow, 35 demons, imagine that!" and I expressed my "skepticism" of the incident. I also noted that their response, "leave us alone" sounded very familiar, but they pointed out that this is a typical demon response. Any thoughts on this? How could these people collaborate on such a fabrication, if indeed it is one? A Newcomer (using brie's address) | ||

Newcomer, The number of demons seem to grow with the telling. Bobby O, Marty, and others were around at that time, perhaps some of them can enlighten. I have always thought that he pulled these stories out whenever he felt his standing was being questioned. It was done to remind all, that they could not facilitate these kinds of things, but, he could! It's like talking about Jesus and his life whenever we get a bit too proud of ourselves. Talking about Him humbles us and brings us back to where we need to be. | ||

Were the 35 demons related to the 35% we were told would leave 'the Body'? Or was it 70%, and half would come back? How could I be uncertain on such important spiritual knowledge? | ||

I knew the girl in question from the first post. She had thick, thick glasses and came to SB from being a hooker in FLA. She was some screwed up lady. After the all nighter in the dining hall,(which I did not attend) I guess she stopped needing the glasses. She stayed in SB for a few months and then was gone. My guess is she still needed major psych work after all... demons or no demons. We worked with a couple of people around that time.. the whole 'casting out demons' things never really went anywhere, because these people really needed proffessional help and not some quack, self educated, whozits trying to perform psycosurgery on thier own spiritual selves... "oh my god, I've got two left hands... look, I have two left hands..." ..not quite the kind of people for a college sophomore to be dealing with... Bests, J | ||

I also remember the demonic girl and still have the bruise from where she kicked me in the shin when I stopped to help. She had her head inside a locker in the basement of South Berwick and she was crashing the door of that locker into her head repeatedly. I wasn't at the "service" that expelled the demons, I went to bed early, lived in the back of the library with no door, but she really did have some heavy duty mental issues. No one else would help her - her name was Arlene. | ||

During the seventies there was a false doctrine, that if you were not obedient to the Body, demons may start to harrass you as a punishment of God and the pastors said that they neet not to do a thing, just in their prayers surround the naughty memeber in the "love of Christ" and then the punishing "love" starts to operate and the backsliden member will soon come back to the Body and repent. And I remember that in some other sects they cast out demons of lust, demons of nightmares, demons of sickness, demons of depression, demons of bulimia, demons of smoking, demons of alcoholism, demons of laxyness, demons of bad luck etc. and what a terrible noise was held under the exorcism! Once I saw a situation, when these demons were driven out from a sister and she started to be wildly afraid, make loud noise and crawked quickly around the floor and then ran out when the praying goup tried to put hands upon her. I wander, is still this punishment doctrine still taught in GGWU that "surrouded in love" prayers will bring the demonized member back to the Body? Huh. I know God does not put any kind of loving punishments upon his children even they do sin but have grace and waits and calls everyone back to him by His Holy Spirit and peace of mind that is over human understanding and supernatural. God bless you all. Think only pure and good things and I think it is time to start think and do creative and upbuilding things, for example to love your neighbor and pray for them.
