The following steps are recommended by experts at New York University for people who just don't feel right about a group they've met on campus:
Ask yourself:
*What commitment of time, money and other resources are expected from you?
*Would I be assigned recruiting or financial quotas?
*Is associating with family and friends discouraged?
*What benefits will I gain from being a member of this group? How do these benefits fit with my own goals and ideas?
Does the group:
*Encourage you to continue your studies, to succeed academically, and to graduate, or does the group say that its activities are more important than school?
*Answer the questions that you ask, or are you told repeatedly that the answers will come later?
*Discourage discussion of its beliefs, either with other members or with your family or friends?
*Want its members to give up traditions and beliefs?
*Require absolute obedience and devotion to its leaders?
*Allow members to have quiet times alone, or time with other friends outside the group?
*Predict tragedy will befall anyone who leaves the group?

The first message on this board gives very practical advice to warn college students against cults.
The rest of the comments make no sense at all,
and so do nothing to promote the cause of whoever wrote them. They appear to be written by someone in Nigeria and no doubt that person has had his or her share of suffering. I suggest they get in touch with Amnesty International. |

The ones I know cults on campus. Some of them are Champions for Christ and Morning Star International and Victory campus Ministries.
I believe the MSI was banned in university of Minneapolis already. Led by bruce Harpel.
there are other dangerous ones Church of Christ is another one. Their doctrines and belief and Practice is very close to Morning Star International. Used to be known as Maranatha. |

Victory Campus Ministries (part of Morning Star International) downplays its ties to Maranatha Campus Ministries, and claims that the teachings have been modified but it has almost all the SAME leaders and teaches the SAME things--that members are to submit to a personal leader/discipler, which connects the member into a tightly pyramidical, highly authoritarian network that leads through the personal leader/discipler through the local pastor/leader to top Morning Star leaders. Also obeying "delegated" authority (church leaders & pastors) is considered to be the same as obeying God.
Single people are also, in many cases, supposed to submit potential dating partners to their leaders or pastors for approval before beginning to date (this was taught in my former church), and in some cases are pressured to marry early or are even assigned marriage partners (some churches/chapters do this more or less than others--this seems to vary).
While this is not called "Shepherding" anymore, but called "discipling" or "accountability," it is the EXACT SAME THING that got the orignal Maranatha Campus Ministries in so much trouble in the 70s and 80s.
Victory Campus Ministries (and its parent organization, Morning Star International) should be considered an authoritarian Shepherding cult just as its forerunner, Maranatha Campus Ministries, was considered a campus cult in the 70s and 80s. |

VCM/MSI/MCM (Every Nation)or whatever they might call themselves today seems to be nothing but "Amway for Jesus". Or multi-level marketing the gospel! Totally void of any anointing whatsoever. Kinda like God twisted into their business plan or model. The leadership in the Body of Christ should be servants. (Matthew 23:11) Not some big name that everyone should submit to. This is bordering idolatry people!
Hopefully there's a change of heart there someday. To where there's a unity of the Body together first and formost. Forget all the big names and organisations and lets unite as the Bride of Christ.
Will this ever Happen?!?
Maybe when men get out of the way and lay down their insecurities. Begin thinking in God's perspective rather than that of a CEO or something. God would give it all up in a millisecond but will these guys?
That's the big question.
Rich young rulers? Pharasees?
Maybe. Just watch and pray.

They are handing out a questionable version that Witness Lee wrote. They will NOT tell you they are affiliated with The Local Church of Witness Lee. Doesn't this draw up red flags to people? They use the Local Church college group connections to obtain permission to be on America's campuses. They also hand these Bibles out to the Military. Reader beware and do research on the authenticity and lack of support of this Bible. It's got more footnotes by Witness Lee than actual Bible verses. |

MSI/EN has a very strong presence at Georgia tech University in Atlanta, Georgia.
They started a church in a suburb right outside Atlanta about three years ago. Mainly people from Florida (Tallahassee church) were sent to Atlanta to recruit college age students, who make up most of the congregation. |

I saw people interested in Watchman Nee stuff, which is good. But they immediately got caught by Witness Lee and his cult, cause they use the name and books of W. Nee for promotion.
This is almost sure. If you ask about references on W. Nee you end up on W. Lee sites and his Living Ministry. |

Beware of The Local Church. Also known as Local Church of Witness Lee. They go by their city's location. Not a name of a church.... Example: "Church in San Francisco"...."Church in Nantucket".....What ever your city, they will claim to THE ONE & ONLY church, therefore their name goes like mentioned above.
They prey on college students. they have campus clubs affiliated with them, but will NOT come out and tell the unsuspecting student this. They are even preying on High School kids.
Please do your own research on this group. You will know if it's their website, they all have the same format and look the same. Get on to other websites. former members can testify to what I am saying! I have not reason to lie about this group. Please help me inform others about this cult in America. It starts in Anaheim California where their main headquarters is. They do full time brainwashing down there at a compound. By the time unsuspecting family's notice something is wrong with their son or daughter, it's too late! Hind sight will be 20/20, but that does you no good when your family is missing a member to this awful cult. They do nothing for others! They do not help the poor, they do not help local charities. they only do their own recruiting and building up their numbers! They do so called "blending trips" with other locations. Beware of them and be smart! Witness Lee came from China, after he was kicked out of the country. He was a suit salesman and started his fanatical religion molded after "The Shouters" from China which Watchman Nee led. Witness Lee was an understudy of Watchman Nee. He branched off and started "The Local Church". Be aware of them and education is the key to learning to stay away from these cults that have alterior motives for you or your child!!! |
