Has anyone heard how Aquilla is doing now? He and Prisca gave me some clothes once and were kind to me. I know he's gone through alot in the
past, but is he doing okay now?

Rick “Aquila” Kendrick or better known as "Aquila the Gorilla" Was last known to be living in Arcadia.

I knew him and his family when I lived there. Ive heard some horror stories about this guy. Yes he can be a nice man but Ive also seen his dark side... Scary stuff.. Heres a recent article about him and Prisca in Arcadia...

http://www.religionnewsblog.com/18742/twelve-tribes-3

Heres an article on the Rick Ross website.

http://www.rickross.com/reference/tribes/tribes60.html

I cant vouch for the truthfulness of this article about Aquilla but on the other hand, I lived and worked with Jeff Leonard "Jephta" in Brunswick and we were pretty close friends. I liked him but I had no idea what he had done or was capable of doing!

So remember, anyone can be kind....anyone!

Life is really strange sometimes. I had also read the articles you have links to, but I didn't want to mention it. I have felt in my heart that what the girl or young woman reports is true, but I would often hope her testimony and my heart were untrue. I had to go before Aquila and another shepherd once for calling someone on the telephone that they found obejectionable. Some things get kind of dramatic and I try to rise above it and the past, but sometimes I guess you just have to call an ace an ace, like with the Jephta incidents. That's interesting you lived in Arcadia. If you're interested in sharing anything, I'm listening. I last lived in the Tribes in 2004 in Ithaca, and before that in Buffalo, and back to 1990 in Island Pond. It's funny how somethings really leave an impression on you. I'll never forget the day "Sus" pants were introduced for the women, and how many of the teenage girls couldn't stop laughing in disgust. More disturbing for me, having previously been conservative Mennonite, was the day it was announced that the sisters would no longer just wear their head scarves all the time. My longest stay was 8 months. I kept leaving and coming back for more. I guess so far in this life, I haven't found anything so beautiful in some ways, and deeply disturbing in other ways. Is that called a paradox? I really miss being there, but am very happy not to be there.

I guess I got a little off track. I really feel that if Aquila molested those girls, he should do prison time for the sake of his conscience and for some justice for those girls. I have a real problem with when the community shelters those who have committed crimes and/or moves them around. He shoould want to do jail time. And anyone who knows about it should want him to. I know it may sound strange, but I still care about him, as well as and his wife and children.

Yes, it's the innocent victims that need us to care most. It's good you brought that full circle.

Hi, I used to be afraid of identifying myself, because some people I have known in the Tribes get so angry and condemning when someone has any criticism about the Tribes, but I've pretty much gotten beyond that. I just wish that the Tribes would realize that the whole Twelve Tribes need to be open to constructive criticism, just as they criticize and put individuals through the fire, or "bring the sword to them." I'm Eric Christopherson, and maybe I know you too. For speaking up, I often get judged as emotionally unstable and one who spread lies and slander. I wish they could understand that I do like many aspects of their life, but there are many things that I think are false, do not have a good conscience about, or just would like to live without. I miss it there very much, but when I am there living, it's not a very happy experience. I knew one shepherd that made it a point to tell members that there is no guarantee that they are the Twelve Tribes or the Bride. The others just assume they are "It." I think we're all "It". That's why were here. We're Hu-mans. Mankind made by HU. Why can't we all just consider ourselves the Chosen People and live with that mindset?

there family touched my heart and i am so grateful i got to live with them.

aquilla has a such a warm heart and i loved the way he could cheer people up, or get them out of their heads whens things werent going so well.

it was never boring living with him.

Hi Jasonerik,
I appreciate your comments. I saw both sides of Aquila's personality to a degree. I think we all have our bright and dark sides. Some people's brights are brighter than average, some people's dark is darker than others. Sometimes, really nice people do really terrible things in secret. But, anyway, maybe you can go and live with Aquila? If he is like you say, he will have a place in his home right now. What do you think?

This poor girl experienced "Aquila the Gorilla":

...One day my sister and I were left in the care of a man named Aquilla, (Ricky Kendricks ) and his wife Prisca. They had two daughters and a son. We were all about 6 or 7 at the time.

The day began like any other normal Sunday in the cult. Everyone slept in on that day because that was the day God rested after creating the earth. My sister, a few other kids, and I were dropped off in Aquilla's room for the day so that our parents could have their family night, otherwise known as some alone time for adults.

We began the afternoon by taking a stroll around a city park in St. Joseph, Missouri. It was a perfect sunny, warm day. Everyone was in the park enjoying nature, even a group of exotic dancers. They were practicing a routine in a secluded part of the park. Skin attracts a lot of attention, and of course Aquilla lead our whole group straight over to the dancers. We were all very young and the show of flesh was very inappropriate for us. After an hour of gawking at the spectacle, we all finally made our way back to the houses.

Once inside the house the children were made to feel guilty about watching the satanic skin fest; as if the kids had a choice in the matter. We were told that we would receive punishment for our sins.

My sister, his daughter, and I were escorted to Aquilla's room. We were told to take off all our clothes, even our underwear. Aquilla got an oiled bamboo rod and then he started to touch our butts with his hands. All three of us thought that there was nothing wrong with this because we were always getting punished. Even though no one had touched us in this manner we thought of punishment as a normal thing.

Although we didn't like what was happening, we had no idea that we were experiencing sexual abuse. He began to spank us with the rod leaving big welts on our bottoms and thighs. We cried, but we were used to this kind of torture. This was the way of the cult. The children of the cult must have been beaten at least once everyday in a similar fashion for anything an adult thought was bad. After the welting, Aquilla (Ricky Kendricks) proceeded to use the rod to violate our bodies in the worst way imaginable. I remember feeling weird and being in a lot of pain. The pain was from the beating, the guilt, and the 7-inch rod that was inserted into my private parts. After he was done he told us all a phrase that I will never forget, "Now we can be FRIENDS." I never told my parents about this event until years later when we had escaped the cult. When it happened I said nothing because it wasn't necessarily unusual for me to get punished. I was worried that they would be upset at Aquilla, that would lead to me getting further punishment from him...

My family finally left the cult in 1996, after many more disturbing events that have scarred me for life. It has taken many therapy sessions and life lessons to get to where I can write about my experiences in this way. I have even begun to accept that I was sexually abused!...

I'm so sorry... so sorry. You're not the only family touched by sexual abuse in the TT's. It was somewhat ubiquitous, leaving many scars.

Yeah, this is part of the Holy Spirit trying to get through to them on core issues, but they didn't listen. So? The law steps in and forces them to take a look at this.
