I was member of a group that spurred from Broadway Tabernacle in Seattle in the 60's not long after Derek Prince left the church in the hands of James A Watt. This home based group started by Ramon A Haas is called "The Assembly of the Body of Christ" and still exists. It has home meetings in several western states and is now run by a man named Gilbert Larson in Tucson AZ along with David North, Andy Atwell, and Bruce Leonard. For most of it's existence it has been quite authoritarian but in recent years it has become very militant toward its members and ex-members. Many people, including myself, have been damaged by their practices and left with anxiety, nightmares and the like. They completely destroyed my family and I am trying to correct that but it is an uphill battle. They woo knew converts with lots of love but in the end destroy them with harsh judgments, shunning and ex-communication. Anyone that questions is told they must decide if they are "in or out". If they don't follow the party line letters are sent and phone calls are made and you lose every "friend" you had overnight since you are now "evil" and "in the wilderness". It can be quite devastating. A great deal of money comes into this organization and is funneled, without disclosure, to just a few top men. Anyone inquiring about the money is told they just need to "trust God" as they refuse to disclose how the money is used. I am working on a history of this group and plan to post it to the internet when it is complete. I would like to hear from anyone that has left this group and some of your experiences. Just post it here or e-mail me. I would also like to hear from anyone that was a member of Broadway Tabernacle when Derek Prince and James A Watt were there. I am not aware that Broadway Tabernacle was authoritarian but I was quite young then and may just not have known. I do know this all stemmed from Canada under the tutelage of Ern Baxter, Derek Prince and others. |
