I once had the opportunity to listen to a sermon at a small church in Lebanon, Missourri. The topic was (what else) christ's redemption of our "sins". Following a dissertation of how evil all man is, how he is born with guilt, the preacher went on to offer the solution: Jesus Christ. The gist of it was, that this jebus character was recieving all the suffering and hellfire that we would, but for our redemption. There was a long description of his agony and torture, and it left me with the impression that christians' mythological savior was not much different from their demons or their satan.
You will be tortured for eternity unless you sell your soul to this monster, Jesus Christ? That is the message of christianity. But hey- At least it isn't as bloodthirsty as islam. |

Another post designed to inflame opinion on this board. I'm not sure I should attempt to reason with you, but here we go:
It doesn't take much more than the evening news to convince me that mankind has evil tendencies, that we are all born with them, and that we are capable of sin, and commit it. Often.
Some of us are better than others, by human moral standards, but even the "best" of us fall short by God's standards as the Bible describes them. For a start, try the Ten Commandments. (I love Ted Koppel's famous quote: "They were not called the Ten Suggestions.")
We obviously cannot save ourselves (so much for humanism), so God sent His Son to pay the price we could not for our sins.
Since, according to the Bible, Christ took upon Himself all the sins of the world, for all time, it is no surprise that he went through agony on our behalf.
People who end up in hell will end up there only because they have rejected Jesus' sacrifice on their behalf. It's like ending up in jail because someone else offered to pay off a debt you could not afford, and you rejected that person's offer.
Think about this, please. I believe that eternity hangs in the balance, even if you do not. |

What I had wanted to respond on you wondering if one had to belong to a certain church is from my heart & the Word.
I will not name a church that broke my heart because the same name church also had a pastor that God used to heal my heart. But my thoughts are thus: The real church of Christ are those willing to die to their flesh & follow Him & His lead for their lives. To become as Christ & find the next person above us, to become a servant as our Lord. James 1:27 also instructs us what is pure & faultless for religion in God the Father's eyes. If we spend our time this way we will fill the rest of our days following the true church of Christ. But it is easier for man to claim a handle on the things of God or so they think. Christ gave us a New command before he left to Love one another, with His help I pray that I am found worry of the calling & daily die to my flesh so I can decrease He may increase. Bless the mighty name of Jesus! |

I agree with your statement. Sometimes I ask a question in the hopes others will ponder it and realize truth as Jesus Christ taught.
So many so called christian churches make the mistake, I think, of not wanting to let go of old testment rituals. Men seem to love that. Why I do not know. The Holy Bible states our body is the temple and the tabernacle.
When Moses was told to prepare Aaron he was told just what to cover his body with. Does that mean we should cover our bodies (in preparation for worship) with gold, jewels, certain cloths, etc. I do not think so. How was Jesus dressed? There are so many things God asked the Jews to do in their covenant with him. I will never understand all of that in this lifetime. I think Jesus knew that, therefore his requirements were in the simplest terms. the beauty of truth is in it's simplicity, yet it is the most difficult for men to follow and accept. Love one another, love your enemies.
People are inately selfish from birth. A baby does not work. It's time is spent in crying for food, crying for attention, crying over discomfort. And resting. We treasure our babies. We have only to look at them and see perfection.
We will do anything they want and have pure joy in doing it. For what. A coo, a smile. Yes, and the knowledge we are totally loved and trusted. No matter our faults, our physical beauty or lack of it, no matter if the house is large or small, whether we are educated or not, the baby puts it's total trust and acceptance in us. We need to go back and relearn what we were born knowing. "Ask, and it will be given." "I will never leave you or forsake you".
"I love you." "Will you love me?"
Bee, though it is appreciated, you don't need to reprimand Joesdad. I think he is saying the only things he can at this moment. Let me, a stranger to him, be his punching bag. He can do me no harm. And his church cannot help him now. Only God can. |

johncody (johncody)... Welcome, the welcome wagon is late again. So how are you? I would guess you are a Christian, or not. All are welcome. Jump right in, the water is sometimes hot in case you did not notice. If you see me I am usually in hot water. Some times my head goes under but I never drown . Some think its God that saves me but really it is the devil. He doesnt want me in hell bossing every one around. This is a good place to learn some things, and to teach others some things. So go for it and speak up, the worst that anyone can do is write in capitals, which in case you do not know is yelling. |

Anon. 128 You cannot rely on men/women. If you will read the Holy Bible, you will be able to stay away from, ignore, or rebuke what ignorant men say. If every person were to decide whether to become a follower, believer in Christ, God, by what men say alone, there would be no christians. Please do not reject Christ because of one bad experience. |
