Hi gang. The Bishop has asked to meet with me. Please advise me about this, freely. I'm open. As far as the meeting goes, the only thing I know with all certainty is that I (not the Bishop) will control the agenda. Jenn (yes, I'm "strength"..... wanna arm-wrestle?!) Note: This message was also posted (and buried)under another thread. But I just learned that the meeting date is likely this Saturday, so I need your input quickly. If you get a chance, look under the "new article today" thread... people have been giving great feedback and advice. |

Any connections between the diocese and the school were minimumal and symbolic, or at least that it was what Bishop Bruce will tell you, and I agree with him. I understand from another thread that Bishop Reid was on the "Board of Patrons", and I'm not enturely sure what that implies but it doesn't sound significant. I think it fair to say that Bishop Reid was a bit of a weak link in the chain of Bishops. Contrary to what some here say it is not the job of Bishops to monitor ordained priests not involved in church-controlled institutions. In the case of an outside actor like FF, a Bishop would only set defrocking proceedings in motion if pressure was brought to bear, which was never done, and it seems rather late in the day now to go through with all that. I again ask that you please show civillity toward the Bishop I think is an excellent person (even though I'm not a Christian and I don't go to church). If a lesson can be learned from this it's that the church should be careful about who it gives out ordinations to, since ordaining the wrong person could result in PR problems. If you wonder why I am being defensive about the Bishop it is because I have met him and found him to be a nice man and everyone else that has met him have said the same thing. |

Menla; I respect the fact that you have feelings and concerns to express, and I thank-you for your input. Let me assure you that nothing I say in the meeting will be personal. I have done research into the connections between the Anglican Church and GCC, and I believe that the ties were very very close, spanning high levels of management within both institutions. I also beleive that we as a society must ensure that vulnerable children are never again subjected to sytematic abuse by religious organisations. Proper investigation is required. Preventative and accountable checks and balances must be put in place. In the meantime, the victims need guidance and support. If I can share information with the Bishop and Chancellor, in an effort to compel them to see their own potential power and influence in affecting meaningful change.... by God, I will try my damndest to do so. |

strength: I would strongly recommend that you seek legal counsel first. Strongly. |

STRONG RECOMMENDATION: I spoke with someone who has a lot more experience in the legal field than I about these meetings. Here's what was advised: 1) DO NOT allow anyone to record the meeting (sorry DQ). Ensure right at the start that the meeting is NOT being recorded. Ask them this question directly. If for whatever it is and they insist, I strongly recommend thanking them for their time and leaving. 2) SIGN NOTHING. No matter how they present a document, do not sign anything. 3) stick to the issue of your complaint. Don't answer questions such as "how do you think this involves the church", "what do you think the church should do or should have done", etc. That's up to them to decide. You've done your part by filing the complaint. Meet with them to verbalize it if need be, but that's it. I hope this helps those of you going to a meeting with the bishop, etc. |

No worries: Jes, the recording has a plus and a minus, but I can see why legally one would say that. I personally record sesintive meetings, but keep the tape. But , in this case Strength, follow Jes' advice. |
