Hi gang. The Bishop has asked to meet with me. Please advise me about this, freely. I'm open.
As far as the meeting goes, the only thing I know with all certainty is that I (not the Bishop) will control the agenda.
Jenn (yes, I'm "strength"..... wanna arm-wrestle?!)

strength,

just a thought/question: how do you feel about meeting with the bishop alone? would you feel that there was some 'strength' in numbers? is there anything that any of us can do directly or indirectly to support you through this?

i'm sure there are people here who would be willing to speak to the bishop as well (with you or at a later date).

-QG

p.s. thanks so much for what you have done. this is a major step forward!

Hi Jennifer! I remember you well. I think meeting with the bishop is a good idea..I just don't have much faith in the Anglican church anymore. Just be open and honest with him about what you were witness to. Email me anytime. Michael.wagener@gov.ab.ca

Hi guys;
I'm not going alone. My best friend is driving me to Kingston and attending the meeting with me. He is a wonderful United Church Minister, a social work professor, and has extensive experience working with abuse survivors and with survivors of the Residential School system.
He will be beside me, as I speak. Its simply an accountability measure. I am not afraid.

The meeting is on Saturday, so I don't have much time to get input from all of you. So I'm going to start a new thread, just to alert people to what is happenning.

Whatever it is you think Bishop Bruce should be doing (i do not think it's fair to drag him into this), please be polite to the man. He is a goodhearted man.

Good luck with your meeting.

The resisdental school problems out West are probably on their minds right now. I know they will place the blame on the schools Board of Directors and will distance themselves as far as possible from GCC.

I can accept that.

What I cannot accept is FF remaining an Anglican priest. He needs to be defrocked.

Hi Strength (Jenn)...I too remember you well. Good Luck with your meeting. I know that you will be honest and open with whatever is said. At least we will be able to get some feedback from the Church and go on from there. Keep us posted!

Strength - I'm sure you've seen today's Globe article (Friday). It looks promising that the Archbishop Fred Hiltz is taking this situation seriously. Especially the fact that they are considering suspending F Farnsworth from priestly duties etc. You have all of our support! The fact that an "anglican" school was run under cult-like leadership is inexusable. And even if the Anglican church does nothing more than discipline Farnsworth - I'd be satisfied.

Hi Strength: SO glad you are doing this. My thoughts are to highlight the difference between the safety and security one should expect going to a school and under the Ontario Human Rights Code and the treatment you received and witnessed. Religion, i.e. "God's will" was used as a club and a controlling device to keep people in check. The Bishop has an obligation, I believe, to see that his priest (Father Farnsworth)promotes and speaks about faith in a way that is healing and honours the dignity of the individual. We know that is not what happened. Sorry if this sounds at all academic, this is what I do. Also, most important for you to keep clearly in your mind that abuse is based on the impact, not the intent. That someone says "they didn't mean it" has no bearing on the impact or effect it had on you. My e mail is jeffrey.wilkinson@peelsb.com if you 'ld like to talk more, I'm sure you'll be awesome. Cheers, DQ
