1:42am. A pretty typical night for me ... bedtime will arrive in an hour or two. Do you think the staff / FF ever lose sleep about their time at GCC? I'm thinking ... "NO!" (Message edited by gayatgcc on September 06, 2007) |

hey there...I am not really into posting on here...did it some on another discussion cause I kinda had to. I just wanted to say to you, as I have read a lot of the stuff on here now, that I am really sorry that you had to go through life at GCC where there was probably very little acceptance of someone knowing they were gay. Well lets face it, there would have been none. One of my best buds from GCC (still is) was gay and came out after the fact, of course, and I always feel sad about how hard it must have been for him in some ways there. Just wanted to wish you well. I don't know if you are into reading spiritual/self help stuff, but this book called BROKEN OPEN by Elizbeth Lesser helped me in ways I couldn't imagine when I was dealing with some heavy stuff. Just throwing it out there. Be well. Regarding your discussion topic. It's interesting...I believe that they really thought they were doing the right things in their heart. Some probably lose sleep over it now cause they see some hardships they caused certain students and others probably feel comfortable with the fact that they did what they thought was right. It is an interesting thing that, for example, I am fortunate as I look at some of the crazy things I got punished for there and it is in a overall place for me where I am grateful for my time there and never felt abused in any way, though I can see where that same stuff to someone else could be totally hard to deal with in the long run. Anyway...I just wanted to say a particular shout out to you cause I have been moved by some of your other posts. All the best to you. |

Ditto from myself gayatgcc - I know for a fact that staff members are losing sleep for the happennings at GCC...they realize, and some did then, that they were dealing with things incorrectly. I too have gay friends - when I was a personal trainer my clientele was 90% gay...for which I greatly appreciate training and becoming the GREAT friends we are today. |

Since Saturday's revelations (for me, at least!) I've been in touch with a couple of my old teachers- one of them I'd already come out to while at school, the other had pretty much figured it out and wasn't exactly stunned... Anyway. Both have expressed deep regret for what occurred to the students who did have an abusive experience at GCC, and made a point of reaching out to me. I'm finding in my limited experience that the more remorseful the sentiment, the less that person had to do with the crazy evil stuff. I'm still trying to figure out how little a staffer could have known about the bad stuff going on, and have decided to let it alone. Just because they were adults doesn't mean they weren't under FF's and the COJ's thumbs. They all had families and kids and while there were sadistic bastards on staff (Hi, Mr. Ortolani!) in a very real sense many staff were prisoners and victims themselves. I'm not gonna go the way of Joe McCarthy and do the whole "what did you know and when did you know it". There's no easy answer... But damn, there should be an criminal investigation. I've emailed my complaint regarding the religious aspect of FF's use of the Anglican label. Now, I'd really like to see that behind bars - if not what he did to me, but the varying abuses he inflicted on the girls and boys he physically laid his hands on.. Before the ending of the day, Creator of the world we pray, that with thy wonted favor thou wouldst be our guard and keeper now. From all ill dreams defend our eyes, from nightly fears and fantasies; tread under foot our ghostly foe, that no pollution we may know. O Father, that we ask be done, through Jesus Christ thine only Son: who, with the Holy Ghost and thee, doth live and reign eternally. |
