For all interested, two half-hour radio interviews about my book "Miracles or Magic?" will air this coming Monday and Tuesday, September 3-4 on 'Southwest Radio Church'. Northern California listeners can tune to KCBC-AM 770 at 2 PM or 7:30 PM, and Southern California listeners can tune to KBRT-AM 740 at 2 PM. A complete list of US, Canada and International shortwave radio stations and times may be found at http://www.swrc.com/about/stations/stations.html . If preferable there is also a Windows Media Player or RealPlayer webcast at http://www.swrc.com/ministry/schedule/schedule.html (scroll down to Sept. 3rd and 4th). For those not already familiar with the book, you can use the 'Search Inside the Book' feature on Amazon at http://www.amazon.com/Miracles-Magic-Rory-Roybal/dp/1597812501/ . As strange as it may sound, I had no intention to write about this topic, but one evening received an almost tangible, unique and extremely strong conviction in a moment of time this was something I was called to do. I hope you find the broadcast and/or book interesting, and will share any feedback or questions with me. Warm Regards, Rory (searchlight86) |

It sounds like an interesting book.I'm not really sure where you are coming from ie. charasmatic or not but if it is from a balanced point of view then it is needful. I am an extremely conservative calvinistic charismatic (an oxymoron I know) and have believed for many years that too much of what passes for the supernatural works of God is just a spirit of divination. (Acts 16) Not all to be sure maybe not even most but certainly some. In too many places there seems to be an attitude that if it is supernatural it must be God and seemingly ignorant of the fact there are two sources of the supernatural. In anycase I really don't have time to read it. Maybe you could satisfy my curiosity and post a line or two where you are coming form in writing it. |

M(r)(s). Hardbones: Quoting: ". . . conservative calvinistic charismatic . . .." End quote. Would you take the time to explain exactly what a Calvinist is? |

M(r)(s). searchlight86: Vanity, vanity, all is but vanity! I, personally, would hope a moderator will delete this thread as it has nothing to do with cults. Rather, it is little more than a vane attempted at making money. |

Well I don't like labels but we all seem to use them. To me a calvinist is to agree to some degree or another with the 5 points of calvinism. In my case it would be a strong agreement. I have a very strong belief in the sovereignty of God and one would seem to confirm the other. |

ATM, I would not have posted it here if it didn't have something to do with cults, and as I alluded to, it was not written or information posted here to make money regardless of what you think. Are your motives so pure, and you so wise, that you are in a position to personally condemn me and my motives without having the slightest clue? hardbones, as you might guess if you've read some of my other posts, the book is written from a conservative Christian standpoint, but attempts to take a balanced objective approach and not condemn. From what you say I think you would like it and agree with at least most of it, although the nature of the topic is such that practically no one will agree with everything. The best way I can suggest to get a feel for it is to listen to the free webcasts, or as much of them as you find of value. |

Here are some excerpts from the Introduction as well: Many people are fascinated with the supernatural, and drawn to miracles in particular to provide a quick solution to their problems or crises. Inspirational and influential religious leaders abound with fantastic claims, and numerous people follow after them without any significant understanding of the potential dangers involved. Unfortunately, many religious leaders are primarily motivated by money and power instead of the well-being of their followers, and use every means available to entice the unwary. Most of us are aware of cults and individuals who have given themselves over to following a belief system that sounds glorious on the surface, but in which the surprise outcome for their followers is disillusionment, despair, and destruction. This book is intended to furnish an approach by which the average person can discern genuine works of God from deception in the spiritual realm. In doing so, many people are bound to be offended, and find this book very controversial, but such a message is urgently needed in a world where everything is moving more quickly, and fewer invest their precious time and energy to deeply examine what they are taught from the pulpit or media. There may be a number of books that deal with the topics herein, but perhaps not from as large a perspective or as easily understandable by the typical reader. As this age draws to its prophesied conclusion, counterfeit spirituality must also dramatically rise. Until the Lord returns in person, much more discernment is needed from the average individual to see Him clearly, and avoid the increasingly clever deceptions that masquerade in His name. It is hoped that this book will encourage and enable many to keep their spiritual journey on track, as well as inspire loving but revolutionary changes to the world of Christendom around them. |

Since we live in a world where our church choirs are wearing santa hats to sing praises to the Lord.. and Benny Hinn types are making a fortune, it is good to take a good look at the other things surrounding us.. Good timing. Time is quickly running out. |
