In the hills above old Bukovina In Walachian forests of old Encrusted beneath a patina Of mottled and verdigris mold Stands a fortress decaying to rubble Recalling the Turkish crusades When Saracens visited trouble Upon these Romanian glades For there lived in those days The Impaler Historians know him as Vlad Who served as Byzantium’s jailer For ‘twas the commission he had He was master above Bukovina Shaking spear against scimitars gold From his fortress now dulled by patina Of creeping and scurrilous mold And we’re sure that he died when the sinews Were detached from the soul by a blade Yet many do say he continues To lurk ‘neath the moon as a shade And he feeds on the fear-sodden polis For he lacks of the substance of life And he takes what is needed for solace With bicuspids instead of a knife It is said he takes forms manifestly He can blanket the ground as a fog And many a shape queer and bestly As a bat or a swart hulking dog But whatever we say of this craven Who defies mortal limits of time His descendant has carved out a haven In a verdant and temporal clime For in forested foothills of splendor Ensconced in his patriarch perch Is a lordly and noble pretender Who ironically calls it a ‘church’ And he feeds from the flock of his keeping He is ready and swift with his knife And he leaves them to perish for weeping Wholly drained of the substance of life And he cuts where the artery narrows To drink of the warm pulse beneath For he draws out your substance and marrows With his doctrine instead of his teeth And he laughs in his ghoul-haunted palace All encrusted with verdigris mold Drinking life from a devilish chalice As the bodies grow rigid and cold |

Indeed you do have a way with words! I'd post a great big smile, if I could figure out how. Thanks. |
