Some of ye may remember long years ago, in England there was a falling asunder between the Davids--Bennett and MacAdam. Bennett went to Surrey, south of London where he linked up with a Christian rock band from San Marcos, Texas called Liberation Suite. They had just returned from living in Northern Ireland, where they had recruited, from one of the premier Irish rock bands--Fruupp--the keyboardist Stephen Houston. He took the band in a direction where they began to sound more like 'Yes' and early 'Genesis'. In fact, according to legend both Queen and Genesis had been opening acts for Fruupp in its heyday. The Band was about to set off on a tour of Europe in 1976 with Chuck Girard, formerly of the Jesus music band 'Love Song'. Managing the band was one Miles McKee, an entrepreneurial fellow from Northern Ireland. Anyone remember CHS having him come to Conventions to speak? David Bennett was the preacher man they brought along to do the 'invitations' and for spiritual guidance. Eventually, he ended up in Holland and that's another story. But whatever happened to Stephen Houston, Miles McKee and Liberation Suite? Well, Stephen Houston went on to Bible College and later lived in Baltimore in Joel Freeman's church. Carl Stevens saw fit to ordain him. He can be found on this Fruupp revival site with old photos and new music to boot. But wait, he's back in the UK now, and check out his 'ministry' in Wiltshire! Follow on down to the links and see if any of the lingo strikes a chord! Of course for years he was the 'Rev. Houston' but now he's DOCTOR Houston! Here you can see what ol' Miles McKee is up to. Helpin' us all to make God's big words smaller. Now Liberation Suite are a rockin' Texas band out of Austin once again! Their old vinyl albums are all out on CD now and you can follow the links for a listen here. Their old guitar player, Barry Bynum is also still at it. Chuck Girard has a website with a downloadable book. Back in those days, on the MacAdam side of things we had a short time together with Honeytree, remember her? |
