A few weeks ago, I was cruising around MySpace to see if any of my former friends at Carolina were around. By a stroke of luck, I happened to notice the page of someone who looked a LOT like one of the more fanatical members of Wrong-Waymaker when I was at Carolina. She was the gal who basically told me that tossing aside my liberal philosophy was a matter of my salvation.

Just for laughs, I clicked ... and it was her. The thing that struck me was that her page didn't exactly look like something you'd find from someone in EN. I haggled for a long time about whether to try to talk to her ... especially since she was one of the people who I believe framed me up for sexual harassment. But I finally decided to try to friend her. Few days ago I checked back--and she'd turned me down.

I was burning mad at first. After all, conventional wisdom would suggest that she should be the one to reach out to me if she wanted to apologize. I only took the initiative because of the possibility that she wanted to apologize, only to be taken aback by the way I've been pounding the KPIC mafia online. But then I started to wonder. If someone as fanatical as her has walked out on EN, how many of my other "brothers" and "sisters" have walked out as well? I would hazard to guess that quite a few of them have--and are probably going through what I went through when I walked out in January '97--only much worse. They've probably given a good-sized chunk of their adult lives to that outfit, and to discover it's all a lie ... my heart just breaks at the thought.

I make no apologies for pounding EN and KPIC without mercy online. These guys have burned a lot of people over the last four decades, including over a quarter-century in the Triangle. The fastest way to get me mad is to take advantage of those who have been burned. But I know I have to be ready to reach out to my former "brothers" and "sisters" if and when they do walk out.
