Are all these groups really Cults? In the real sense of Cults, these groups be it Buccaneers, Vikings, NBM, Eiye, Marphia, Daughters of Jezebel and all what have you are not Cults. The Nigerian Press and Government have misled the people. All these groupings are either gangs or plan hoodlums and one or two which could have claimed to be Confraternities have derailed long time ago. Unfortunately calling them Cults have created an air around them which should not be, perhaps when we begin to see them as hoodlums which most of them are we will be better able to address the problems ther are causing. According to dictionary, cults have a beliefs or ideals, devotion to person(s) but these groups don't, they are just criminals. Here is Websters meaning of Cults 1 : formal religious veneration : WORSHIP 2 : a system of religious beliefs and ritual; also : its body of adherents 3 : a religion regarded as unorthodox or spurious; also : its body of adherents 4 : a system for the cure of disease based on dogma set forth by its promulgator 5 a : great devotion to a person, idea, object, movement, or work (as a film or book); especially : such devotion regarded as a literary or intellectual fad b : a usually small group of people characterized by such devotion We should do to these people what we do to Criminals. | ||

Actually I agree with Felix these groups are less of cults and more of gangs just like those found everywhere in th world the unfortunate thing is that they are found on campuses in Nigeria | ||

My opinion on why people join cultism is due to the fact that there is a need for the individual to be recognized, gain connection, avoid being oppressed, or simply mere stupidity. Since the disadvantages outweigh the advantages, it will only be foolish to be an aro-bagger, bucketman, bird, aye, maphite etc. Although it is in our african heritage to be clanish, cant we just share our views over some bottles of beer?
