Doomsday cults have a unique character that distinguishes them from other type of cults. The former revolve around dooms day prophesies or coming catastrophes that result in the destruction of the world, followed by the coming of a new age. The intermediary time period between these two stages is defined by a return to a primitive life in which moral and social chaos prevails. By following the cult leader’s special instruction the followers believe they will survive the chaos and see the dawn the new age. Consequently dooms day cults assume a survivalist mentality that is essentially anti-government and anarchistic. They build underground shelter, stock food and water, and arm themselves with enough guns and ammunition to last years. The type of people attracted to dooms day cults are usually those who clamor toward emotionally charged subjects that create mass hysteria in the populace; the type who read conspiracy theories in the same way a drug addict injects heroin into his veins. They're addicted to the charlatan's half truths. He becomes their passageway into an imaginary landscape unburdened by the normal, work-a-day world. The future he offers is more exciting. It is one of drama and intrigue. His world lies outside the borders of reality, in an imaginary future created by the charlatan himself. Yet, as the years wear on and the dooms day never arrives, the cult follower is thrown into moral and emotional confusion. Even after it becomes increasingly evident that “the day” won’t arrive, he continues to live in a state of limbo: waiting for the collapse of society while society itself moves forward all around him. The problem is he can no longer see any meaning in its movement and purpose and merely stares at society with grave contempt. Daily what he sees happening in the future drains him of the desire to live a normal, well-adjusted life, with a good paying job, a house, a wife and children. Humanity is ultimately doomed, he thinks, so why devote the time and energy harvesting the fruits of society? |

Mathew, You're a good writer. You probably already know that. "Even after it becomes increasingly evident that “the day” won’t arrive, he continues to live in a state of limbo: waiting for the collapse of society while society itself moves forward all around him." This is something I am "guilty" of. I did spend some years, (thankfully not TOO many), waiting for all of the doomsday predictions to arrive, and protecting my family. I was just scared, not thrilled over it. I was that much younger, more naive. I got to a point where I saw such hypocrisy in the doomsday stuff. For one thing, if we have love and compassion in our beings, we do not become excited at the prospect of banding together, digging underground bunkers, hoarding food and water, while we sit back and watch the rest of the population die of The Doomsday Affliction. Secondly, if the Teacher is so all powerful and backed by so many other all powerful masters, then why is this world in the state it is in, of the Doomsday Threats that they talk about ? If they can give the info to protect yourself from it, then why not put that ENERGY and THOUGHT into a far more positive, loving outcome for ALL ? So, just how loving and powerful are THEY ? If I could wave a wand (so to speak) and heal the world, I would do it. Seems like a no brainer to me! Thirdly, I have learned that this is my life to LIVE to the fullest, and enjoy each day, no matter how small or mundane the day may seem to be. That's one of my personal goals now. LIVING my life, and not giving one iota of energy to the doomsday information from RSE. I am VERY busy, and very happy. I wasted whatever amount of time and money in RSE, listening to two smooth talkers - JZ and Ramtha. I also listened to their overt political agendas, the stories that changed 180 degrees over time, the deceptions, the verbal abuse, the emotional abuse connected to the verbal abuse, and on and on it goes. There truly is much for them to be accountable for. But I am accountable to myself, and the family that I CHOSE to have. I will never again give the time and money (also connected to my family), away to that cult again. They don't deserve me, and I expect, a huge number of people who have also voted with their feet - and are no longer there as "current" students in a hierarchal structure of a school - where - one might think that we are all ONE. Casts a dark shadow upon the hypocrisy of a dictatorship style of leadership, as well as the hierarchical structure of the students, with "levels" of beginning to advanced. Though the advanced students don't produce any better results than the beginning ones. I guess their egos need to have some status assigned to them, to account for the need to justify how special they are having spent more MONEY and TIME than a newbie. What sort of consciousness is THAT ? HAHAHAH Off to ENJOY my day ... AGAIN. |
