well it looks as if they have taken the treads off so time to start a new one. i believe in the trinity.. GOD THE FATHERE AND THE SON AND THE HOLY GHOST. i believe we are saved by faith in THE BLOOD OF JESUS. i believe in all the gifts of THE SPIRIT. i believe that tongues are the evidence of the baptisum of THE HOLY GHOST . pray for me and for all here |

John,
I am responding to your post from a previous thread.
I know that there are people who belong to some crazy Pent. churh's. I have heard some so called toungues that were babble.
With that said, one can not deny what Paul says in 1 Cor. 14:
Verse 2: "For he who speaks in a toungue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries."
Verse 4: "He who speaks in a tongue edifies himself, but he who prophesies edifies the church."
Verse 14-15: For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding."
Facts:
1. Toungues cease when that which is complete (the return of Jesus) has come. - 1 cor 13
2. Some church's/Christians abuse, pretend,are confused, etc. So where the Corinthians; that is why Paul corrects them. If Paul deaklt with abuses, so will we.
3. There is not one verse in scripture that even eludes to toungues as demonic.
4. Tongues are for the Christian today, regardless of a persons bad experience.
Conclusion: We can go throught the book of Acts, verse by verse; 1 Corinthians the same way, even church history, in order to see that tongues is valid.
I have many years of ministry experience, and a very good theological education. I am not flaunting that, but knowing how to study a doctrine correctly can come in handy. I am not in any way saying that you lack that ability, we just simply disagree.
John, I wish to offer my apologies for some harsh critique in previous posts. My personality gets the worst of me from time to time. I believe that many of us enjoy a good debate. I also believe that any disagreements, even heated, should not be taken personally. |

TONGUES
I Corinthians 14:2 "For he that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries."
"Mysteries" as given in the Greek text is "divine secrets"; so why would he be speaking in divine secrets? Note also that the word "unknown" was added by the translators for it just wasn't there in the early manuscripts.
Another word "tongue" also come in here and in Strong's Greek dictionary it is # 1100. "Glossa, gloce-sah'; a language, (specifically, one naturally acquired)."
"Tongue" as given in this chapter is one language that you have naturally acquired by learning. So the tongue that Paul is talking about is a language that is not your natural tongue, it is one that you have acquired outside your home.
Remember the great commission that Jesus gave; to take the gospel to the world. If Christians could only speak English, then the other peoples of the world simply would not understand
what the gospel was all about.

the gospel was preached.. paul told them that there were gifs of THE SPIRIT that we could have. one of them is tongues. there are earthly tongues and there are heavenly tongues. we speak heavenly tonges when we speak in tongues. |

John may be loud, and sometimes arrogant, but condemning him to hell is a bit overboard.
I disagree with him in a few areas, but I believe that he is a saved man. The differences are not salvation issues. |

That's typical of some Christians. You disagree with them and they condemn you to hell or curses. In my experiences, it is usually the one's who don't read the bible and can't back up anything they say with scripture. When they try to back things up with scripture and it is refuted they get angry.
I had some fool tell me that the Holy Spirit told him that I was going to die. All because he couldn't 'convince' me that his theology was correct. I laughed at him and told him to go home and repent because the Holy Spirit didn't tell him anything like that. I am not sure what spirits he was listening to but there was nothing holy to it. |

there are many who get carried away with a doctrine and get into other spirits.. that can lead to demonic forces. try the spirits see if they are of GOD |
