I left the assemblies of the Truth some years ago after having been a part for 12 years. I was only aware of church bodies in the U.S. (mostly Virginia, Texan and California), Canada (Nova Scotia and Newfoundland), Mexico and Peru. I knew of no history of the church beyond the 1940's or so (now I know why seeing this whole damn thing was started in 1897, which of course, most people don't know about).

When I discovered the truth behind the Truth just last week, I was not only shocked as to its formation in Ireland in 1897, but that there are perhaps hundreds of thousands of followers all over the world in hundreds of local assemblies. When I first hit the Web site on 2x2's last week (I had never even heard of that term), I saw descriptions of assemblies in Australia and New Zealand and England and elsewhere in the US, and read testimony from ex-members that were identical to the assemblies I attended (Washington, DC was my local). Everything was the same from the dress code, hair rules based on I Corinth., the rote sayings and cliches used (it's a very different and specific way of talking, with loaded words and phrases only used in this cult), and the scheule and manner of meeting (Sunday morning, weekday evening, once a month for the regionals, and two conventions (camps) a year, where you had better sleep in those damn danky dorms). No Chistmas or wordly friends, etc., etc. I am positive it is the same organization, but we (me and my lowly friends) never knew about these other assemblies meeting the same way.

Can someone relate to this? Does anyone have a grasp of the big picture? Do all the workers know everything? Sites list the worldwide number of followers as between 40,000 to 600,000. That's a pretty big range.

Makes you wonder that if the goal of the ministry is for its followers to lead an exemplary life in Christ in order to be a good testimony to the world in the hopes of winning as many converts as possible, why the secrecy? These guys could teach the CIA a thing or two about clandestine operations.

I am,

Hello, Free!

Welcome to the Been There/Done That / Sold the T-shirt in a garage sale group!

I was born and raised 2x2 and was in for over 30 years. I was the fourth generation (can't go back any further it WASN'T invented yet).

My entire family is out, including parents and siblings (deceased grand/great grandparents).

But, being out isn't the best part --- learning about the REAL Jesus and His love and His TRUTH is indescribable!

I'd be happy to visit/e-mail or anything that would help you.

Anger is the first reaction, followed by relief and then more anger..... but healing comes!

I've never seen this board before, so I'm not sure how it works. Just let me know!

Hello again.

You'll find the lies and deceipt wide-ranging. What shocked us most is the varieties of rules depending on where in the world one lives - there are different rules according to head workers. This "Way" is anything BUT "the same" everywhere!

Hey, did you know that they DO celebrate Christmas in New Zealand - the workers are into gift-giving big time! What a shock that is - after were were denied all those years!

The girls in certain parts of the USA are wearing jeans to get-togethers now ---- where some in our area were not allowed to "partake of the emblems" for wearing coulottes - which were back then what skorts - combination skirt and shorts). Girls in Arkansas are not allowed to swim except in dresses while girls in California are wearing bikinis.

Girls in England/Ireland commonly wear their hair down while it's not allowed to do so in the USA aside from in the Pacific Northwest (Oregon).

There are many inconsistencies in this group. It's amazing to see what different people from different parts have been taught.

Those who are still in and VERY much aware of the founding are VERY defensive. There is even a group trying to prove apostolic succession -- to try to prove that there were workers between William Irvine (founder) and the 12 apostles. It's hilarious as it's the same info that the Roman Catholics use and that the Assemblies of God use and that Worldwide Church of God (Armstrong) uses. They all claim the same people as their continuous link to Jesus.

They're so busy doing that defensive stuff (dare I say BS?) that they don't even have a clue as to who Jesus is nor do they understand the Bible in its appropriate context, but most sadly, they don't CARE. They're so hell-bent on trying to prove their foundings that they don't give a flip about God.

I could go on all day and then some, but shall refrain.

Please do let me know if I can help!

FREE, FREE, FREE!

The Assemblies of God do not claim a link back to Christ. That church was started in the 1920's in California and has always stated that. I accepted Jesus into my heart in that church. It is not a cult. The Worldwide Church of God is. My neighbors were once part of that group. The corinthians were the first church followed by the Catholic church when the emporer Constitine became a christain. My aunt is a worker in Japan. Shes trying to get my mother to go to meetings in Oregon. I'm trying to gain more info on this group and what they actually believe. I can't seem to find much except a lot of legalism which is what Christ's death on the cross was meant to erase. His death and sacrifice set us free from that.

I think that the rules, like wearing hair up ordown, come from the people themsleves, not the workers.

You will never know how many "professing friends" are in the kingdom. The workers like to keep this info secretive! They compare themselves to worldly preachers who seek thousands of converts. They say they are interested in individuals unlike the false preachers in the religious world.

Workers don't publish information about their group. They are quite secretive about many of their decisions.

Workers preach that "Jesus wasn't interested in large crowds but the individuals who felt their need".

I think the "we as God's servants aren't interested in big crowds" is an excuse not to evangelize!

I agree!!! Besides Jesus was interested in any one that would spread the gospel...it started from the apostles to thousands and hundred of thousands of souls being saved!!!! I never heard anyone in my family evangelize to others that didn't belong to the TRUTH. They were too busy watching the others in the truth making sure they were doing what was right!!!
