My people pls take time to read this. I am not hear to criticise anyone I am only hear to give my opinion and I hope that God will touch the Heart of those who read this. I dont no if people actually derive some form gratification and amusement from the sporadic killings that occur on our campuses. It is very sad to hear about such deaths. Why cant these various group on campus be proud of being a group of people that are known as intellectuals rather than being rugged. Why not be proud of being the best in terms of being successful in life and also help towards the growth and development of the country. Take a moment and think about this. these killing are they good examples we are setting for the younger generation? I dont think so. I no that some people have lost their lives and others are trying to bring justice ....but by taking laws into your hands does not solve anything also violence does not solve the problem instead it only causes more harm and more lives are lost. 210604 today: Three feared killed in Ibadan varsity cults' clash From Iyabo Sotunde, Ibadan AT least, three students were feared dead yesterday at the University of Ibadan (UI) in a clash involving two rival cults. Benin city update, Some wars are sad, others just make no sense. Apparently this is a war of material possession. That nine people can lose their lives over a boundary dispute on a piece of land just beggars belief. So far one Axeman and eight Eiye have lost their lives in Benin over a boundary fence that surrounds a piece of land. Benin City stress update, As far as I am aware, there have been sporadic acts of violence in Benin city since the peace plan two weeks ago. These however by the mercy of God have not resulted in any major injury. The last confirmed casualty happened to an innocent member of the public (a friend to one of the groups members)on the actual night that the peace agreement was made in a hotel room in Benin City. This casualty was found the next morning. Three students killed in fresh Edo cult clash By Osaro Okhomina Posted to the Web: Tuesday, March 08, 2005 BENIN CITY— THE bloody rivalry between the Eiye and the neo-black movement (Black Axe) confraternities continued yesterday in the University town of Ekpoma with the killing at the early hours of morning of three (3) students of the Ambrose Alli University (AAU) by an unknown cult group armed with automatic weapons and machetes. The latest killing now brings to Ten (10) the number of students killed in the renewed hostilities between the rival cult groups located in the outside residential hostels inhabited by students of the AAU, the University of Benin and the College of Education, Ekiadolor causing many students of the AAU to seek refuge within the institution campus where appreciable security is being provided by the School's internal security outfit. Just as the Institution authority through the Director of Information, Protocol and Public Affairs, Dr Don Akhilomen announced that after full investigation conducted into the identity of those shot dead in the cult clash by the Dean of Student Affairs, it was discovered that only two students were bonafide members of the institutions while others were not. Also reacting to killing, the State Police Commissioner, Mr Muktar Abass ordered the deployment of some undercover agents and armed policemen to the university town to control the rising case of insecurity in the area. While three students were killed on Sunday at the Ambrose Alli University (A.A.U), Ekpoma, one suffered the same fate at the Delta State University (DELSU), Abraka yesterday. The murder of the three students at AAU brought to 11, the number of students so far killed in the cult war that spilled over from the university town of Ekpoma to Benin City, the Edo State capital at the weekend. Earlier skirmishes were reported at the College of Education, Ekiadolor, near Benin by a local television station, which said though no death was recorded, several people were said to have been injured. The first five deaths were recorded at Ekpoma, outside the campus on Friday while two others were killed in Benin in the cult war said to involve rival cult groups. Sources at the A.A.U. said that the Sunday killings were carried out in broad daylight by masked youths who were said to have moved around the university town, hunting down their victims. The first casualty on Sunday was said to have been killed along Uhumudumu Road where the suspected cult members attacked a students hostel, dragged out their victim and shot him. Another was said to have been killed at Aloja Street, Ekpoma and the third along Esan Medical Street in an orgy of violence that has put most students hostels in the town on the alert. The Director of Protocol, Information and Public Relations at the AAU Dr. Don Akhilomen, confirmed some of the killings outside the campus. Police Spokesman Peter Ogboi said yesterday that the Police were working round the clock to arrest the situation. He said details of their investigations would be made known soon. "I don't like assumption, I will like us to wait so that what information we give out will be valid, Ogboi said. At DELSU, the student, a 300 level sociology student, was brutally hacked to death by a gang suspected to be members of a secret cult around the premises of a popular night club in Abraka. Three other students who received deep matchet cuts have been hospitalised at an undisclosed hospital near the university. The body of the slain student was brought to the disconsolate parents at Orhruwhorun Road, Udu, near Warri, yesterday morning in the hearse of Camp Clinic, Delta Steel Company (DSC), by hospital officials who had battled unsuccessfully to revive him. Yesterday morning, some students of the university mourning the slain student posted his pictures at the university gate and other strategic locations. A university source told The Guardian yesterday that policemen would be detailed to guard the wounded students at the hospital where they are on admission, as their statements would help an investigating panel get to the root of the matter, especially in identifying the students who carried out the heinous act. It was learnt that the attack, which took place on Sunday night might have been a reprisal attack by a rival gang. The deceased student was rushed to Camp Clinic in Udu from Abraka, a distance of over 40 kilometres where he died yesterday morning. 8 more students killed in Edo cult clashes By Osaro Okhomina Posted to the Web: Wednesday, March 09, 2005 BENIN CITY—THE bloody clash between rival cult groups of the Eiye and Black Axe confraternities at the Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma continued yesterday with eight more students feared dead. Governor Lucky Igbinedion was consequently forced to abort his trip to Abuja to attend an emergency security council meeting to tackle the problem. But the State Police Command and the university authorities denied the reported killings, claiming that only one final year student of the institution was shot dead in a shoot out in Ekpoma. Giving an account of the situation in the university town yesterday on the floor of the House of Assembly under matter of public importance, the member representing Esan West Constituency, Mr Patrick Ajuenede, said reports available to him and other leading members of the Ekpoma community showed that the cult groups were locked in a shoot out that crippled all activities in the town and led to the killing of eight students of the institution. He declared the situation in the town as unsafe, saying;"We were shocked yesterday afternoon to hear heavy gun shots and after due investigation we gathered that eight students were killed in the clash. The town is no more safe and we want to draw attention of all security persons concerned to act fast. We now live in the area with our eyes open." Meanwhile, Governor Igbinedion aborted his trip to Abuja to summon a state security council meeting over the violent killings taking place outside the campus of the institution and condemned the situation in its entirety, warning that those belonging to any cult group would be apprehended and prosecuted. Vanguard also gathered that the state security meeting agreed to summon the Vice Chancellor of the institution, Professor Daniel Agbomian, to appear before it and give a situation reports on the week long orgy of violence outside the campus and also queried the House of Assembly member, Mr Patrick Ajuenede, over the alleged misplacement of facts about the crisis.. Contacted on the situation, the institution's Director of Protocol, Information and Public Affairs, Dr Don Akhilomen, denied the reported killing of eight students, saying that only one students was shot while trying to make a telephone call. "We are surprised that they claimed eight were killed on Monday.
