Falun Gong Practitioner Not Beaten to Death But Killed by Electric Shock

Cui Dezhen, a Falun Gong practitioner from east China's Shandong Province, was not beaten to death as asserted by the Falun Gong headquarters abroad, but killed accidentally by an electric shock while spreading propaganda materials on the cult+++

Sources with local police said Cui got hit by an electric shock when he was posting illegal Falun Gong materials on a high-tension wire pole in his home village while he was following the directions from the Falun Gong headquarters abroad.

Cui, a farmer born in September 1970 in Lushang Village in Laixi City, Shandong, became a Falun Gong practitioner in the spring of 1999 and continued practicing even after the Chinese government declared Falun Gong as a cult and banned it according to law in July 1999.

Whole course of the incident
Cui, together with Wang Ruixiang, Zhang Yuzhen and Cui Dexiu, all Falun Gong followers, spent about three hours listening to Falun Gong cassette tapes at Cui's home before they went out to spread Falun Gong materials separately around 21:00 December 28, 2001.

At about 22:00 that day, local police received a call from Cui' s elder brother Cui Dedong, saying that the younger Cui was found lying unconsciously under a high-tension wire pole in the village and was sent to the Laixi No.2 People's Hospital.

When police arrived at the hospital, Cui was dead already.

Forensic experts found burns over Cui's hands and on the back of his right knee+++

Arrests reported over Falun Gong TV transmission in northern China
Tue Apr 2, 1:43 AM ET
By CHRISTOPHER BODEEN, Associated Press Writer

BEIJING - Several followers of the banned Falun Gong (news - web sites) meditation sect have been arrested and charged with hacking into a northern Chinese cable television system to broadcast material about the group, a state newspaper reported Tuesday.

At least 18 Falun Gong followers had taken part in the incident, according to China Women's News. The article did not say how many were arrested or what penalty they faced if found guilty.

The March 5 broadcast cut into prime-time 7 p.m. programming in the cities of Changchun and Songyuan in Jilin province, "sabotaging public order and disrupting the normal lives of the masses of the people," the report said.

***China has detained thousands of Falun Gong members, and the group's organizers abroad say more than 350 have died in custody.

Fearful of the size and organizing power of Falun Gong's membership, the Communist government has pursued the group relentlessly since banning it in mid-1999 as an "evil cult" and has sentenced its members to up to life in prison for sect-related activities.

The government says Falun Gong is a public nuisance that deludes members with dangerous teachings and seeks to sabotage China.

***The article said a group of followers led by two men, Liang Zhenxing and Zhao Jie, and one woman, Zhou Renjun, began planning the broadcast early in December. Liang borrowed a storage space and wrote up instructions, spending 11,000 yuan (dlrs 1,340) of his own money to buy equipment, it said.

The group tested the plan several times and scouted out possible locations to break into the cable system in several northern cities, the paper said. Learning that Falun Gong followers were going to be sentenced in Changchun on March 6, they chose the evening before to act to "disrupt the normal sentencing work of the court," the paper said.

The report didn't give details of the broadcast or say when arrests had occurred. But it said one conspirator, Liu Chengjun, set fire to a straw shack where he was hiding when police arrested him, then injured four officers by crashing the police car that was taking him away.

A Changchun cable company confirmed the pirate broadcast last month, saying it lasted about 10 minutes but declining to give details. A Changchun government official said March 7 that one person had been arrested in connection with it, but also gave no further information.***

BEIJING -- An American and a Canadian follower of Falun Gong have been detained in Beijing, where they came to protest China's ban on the meditation sect, supporters abroad said Friday.

Jason Pomerleau, 25, and Christine Loftus, 22, were detained outside a market Thursday afternoon, the group said in an e-mail sent to reporters. The statement was sent with a photo of two people identified as Pomerleau and Loftus being taken away by security guards>>> http://www.newsok.com/cgi-bin/show_article?ID=841441&pic=none&TP=getarticle

Her face scarred with massive skin grafts and her hands missing, Chen Guo recalls the events which led her to set herself on fire in Beijing's Tiananmen Square more than a year ago. "Falun Gong is indeed an evil cult and it led me to this," said Chen Guo, showing her horrific injuries to Chinese and foreign reporters at a hospital in Henan province, central China. A former Falun Gong believer, Chen joined her mother Hao Huijun in setting herself alight. They were both severely burned...Another mother, Liu Chunling, and her 12-year-old daughter, Liu Siying, died. "I remember Li Hongzhi (the leader of Falun Gong) published a lecture entitled 'Beyond Tolerance' and after reading it, we decided not to wait any longer," Chen said. "We felt we must strengthen the force of Falun Gong in a special way and at that time we thought of self-immolation," she said...."We went there just wanting to attain 'all-round fulfillment' claimed by Li Hongzhi," he said....Many Falun Gong practitioners throughout the country have killed other people or committed suicide in attempts to "ascend to Heaven" or "attain all-round fulfillment" in line with Li's teaching of "neglecting life and death". To date, up to 1,660 practitioners and innocent people have died in such incidents.

Lone sect activist marks year three

A follower of the outlawed Falun Gong spiritual group was arrested in Tiananmen Square yesterday amid tight security on the third anniversary of the movement's landmark protest that led to its ban.

Also yesterday, a rights group said more than 2,000 people had been rounded up since last month in Changchun, Jilin province, after supporters of the group hijacked the local cable television network to show pro-Falun Gong films.

Of those detained, 150 have already been sent to labour camps, the Hong Kong-based Information Centre for Human Rights and Democracy said.

Yesterday's lone protester, a middle-aged Chinese woman, was swiftly tackled by police as she ran through Tiananmen Square carrying a yellow banner, witnesses said.

Police took her to a waiting van and began shooing away a crowd of curious tourists.

The episode lasted just 15 seconds.

Despite official wariness shown by a highly visible police presence, no other protests were seen by early afternoon.

On April 25, 1999, about 10,000 Falun Gong practitioners surrounded the Zhongnanhai headquarters of the Communist Party, a few hundred metres from Tiananmen Square, to demand the right to be recognised by the Government as an organisation and protest against official harassment.

In the past two years practitioners have marked the date with sporadic protests on Tiananmen, the spiritual heart of the communist regime.

Scores of uniformed civilian and paramilitary police as well as plain-clothes officers could be seen patrolling the vast square yesterday.

The Hong Kong-based rights group appealed for the international community to put pressure on China to end its crackdown on Falun Gong, particularly in Changchun.

The hijacking of the airwaves on March 5 was a propaganda coup for the sect.

According to the rights group, nine people have been formally charged with illegal activities connected to cults and damaging broadcast equipment.

But Falun Gong activity has fallen greatly during the past year or so, as indicated by yesterday's solitary protest.

Activists: Beijing ordered crackdown
Posted: Thursday May 02, 2002 6:37 PM

BEIJING (AP) -- Telling police to "arrest them, then do the paperwork," China is girding for the 2008 Olympics by ordering a crackdown on Falun Gong and all other dissent in a northeastern province, according to a document that Chinese democracy activists say is an official decree. ###

The one-page order, directed to police bureaus and courts in Jilin, said it came from that northeastern province's police headquarters and top court. It appeared to sanction the arrest of Falun Gong practitioners even without formal warrants.

The Free China Movement faxed a photocopy of the document to reporters in Beijing. ###

The Connecticut-based China Support Network, a lobbying group, called the document "a smoking gun" -- and a problem for the International Olympic Committee.

"Do the executives there in fact sanction the abuse of human rights under the cheerfully applied seal of the Olympics?" it said in a statement. "If the IOC has a shred of humanity, it will deny China the opportunity to host these games."

A senior Beijing Olympic organizing official, Wang Wei, expressed doubt about the document's authenticity but said he could not comment. Jilin police said they had no information and asked why reporters were interested. ###

The decree, titled "Notice on severely striking illegal organizations," bore two official-looking seals and said it was designed "to better welcome the smooth holding of the 2008 Olympic Games in our country" and "to stabilize social order."

The notice ordered that organizers of large protests "who refuse to mend their ways" be sentenced to up to three years" imprisonment and fined US$1,200. Leaders of "illegal organizations," it added, "should be punished severely."

"Falun Gong practitioners and instigators should be cracked down upon to a greater degree," the order said. "First arrest them, then do the paperwork."

Falun Gong Mother Chokes Daughter to Death

A Falun Gong devotee choked her nine-year-old daughter to death while trying to exorcise a "demon" out of the girl's body in Yichun, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province.

Guan Shuyun, 44, killed her daughter, Dai Nan, in their home on April 22 as about 40 other Falun Gong practitioners stood by.

Guan began to practise Falun Gong in April 1997. She was sentenced to labor education after engaging in illegal cult activities in July 2000, and was released ahead of the due date in February 2001.

After returning home, she pretended to give up Falun Gong, but actually kept close contact with other cult members and continued to "develop" her so-called "inner spirit", Guan admitted.

On April 19, Guan started to invite about 40 Falun Gong practitioners from other cities in the province to gather at her home. She told them she would like to share a few thoughts with them.

On the morning of April 22, Guan refused to allow her daughter to go to school, saying the girl had been possessed by demon, which had to be exorcised immediately.

Guan lifted Dai Nan on to a bed, and asked her sternly, "Who are you? Where are you from? And how much evil have you done?"

Guan kept slapping her daughter on the face, and asked others to join in the beating despite the girl begging for it to stop.

When Dai Nan cried for help, Guan said the demon was speaking. Guan then began to clutch Dai's throat tightly and asked other Falun Gong members to come forward and hold Dai still.

With Guan fiercely clutching her daughter's throat, no one dared to stop her for fear of being possessed by the demon.

Some just knelt down and prayed, some retreated to the corner and some just stood by looking.

Guan also forbade others to come close to her daughter. She said if the child was moved, the demon would move out again and prevent them - the Falun Gong followers - from "flying to heaven."

When Dai Keqin, Guan's husband came back, he found their daughter dead, but Guan called on others to tie Dai Keqin. Until noon, Dai escaped from the house and reported the case to the police.

,,,,"It is Falun Gong that has killed my daughter," said Dai Keqin, crying as she described the whole process. "Even shooting all of them could not vent my anger.",,,,

Falun Gong followers sentenced to prison for breaking into cable TV in China
The Associated Press
5/19/02 2:29 AM

BEIJING (AP) -- A Chinese court has sentenced four Falun Gong followers to prison terms ranging from seven to 16 years for hacking into a cable television network and broadcasting information about the banned group, state media said.

>>>Tapping into TV stations has been one tactic used this year by Falun Gong in its fight against a government crackdown that has driven followers underground or away from the group.

Aside from Chongqing, Falun Gong followers have also hacked into TV networks in at least three other cities -- Harbin, Changchun and Anshan, all in the northeast, Chinese authorities say. Followers also post fliers and use the Internet to publicize the group's views.

China's government banned Falun Gong in July 1999 as a threat to communist rule and a social menace. The government says Falun Gong is a cult that has caused 1,700 deaths.

Falun Gong members barred from Iceland during visit by Chinese president
By RICHARD MIDDLETON
The Associated Press
6/7/02 4:02 PM

REYKAJVIK, Iceland (AP) -- The government on Friday barred all Falun Gong members from entering Iceland in a bid to prevent a large demonstration against Chinese President Jiang Zemin when he visits the country next week.

The government said it is the first time the country has banned members of any movement or international organization from visiting Iceland.

The move was taken in an effort to avoid the kind of protest that occurred the last time a top Chinese officials visited the country.

^^^ In Reykajvik, Ministry of Justice officials announced the Falun Gong ban on Friday, saying they had been alerted to a large planned protest against Jiang by Interpol and authorities in countries such as the United States.

Hundreds of foreign Falun Gong members were due in Iceland for the protest, and the government does not have the resources to control it and maintain public order, said Bjorn Fridfinnsson, a ministry secretary.

Falun Gong hacks into Chinese TV
June 26, 2002 Posted: 1356 GMT

BEIJING, China (AP) -- Falun Gong supporters interrupted a cable-television program in an eastern Chinese city to broadcast an image of a banner saying the banned group is good, a local police official said Wednesday.

The 10-minute broadcast interrupted a music program on state television at about 7:10 p.m. on Friday in Laiyang, a city in Shandong province, said the police official, who would give only his surname, Zhang.

It showed a banner saying, "Falun Dafa is good" in Chinese, according to Zhang. Falun Dafa is another name for the group.

---Despite the crackdown, activists showed a similar scene for a few seconds at about 8 p.m. on Tuesday in Yantai, another city in Shandong, the Information Center said.

Falun Gong activists have broken into cable television systems in at least four other cities to broadcast protests.

---The other incidents occurred in the cities of Chongqing in the southwest and Harbin, Changchun and Anshan in the northeast.

People arrested in the other incidents have been sentenced to up to 16 years in prison.

Top-Level Chinese Communist Party Official Authors Chilling New Book on Jiang Zemin
Part of Jiang’s Inner Circle, Author Gives Harrowing Account of the "How" and "Why" Regarding Jiang’s Decision to "Eradicate" Falun Gong
(6/13/2002 15:48)

"this book does present a wealth of information that we know to be true from our own sources. It also corroborates reports that have been issued by Amnesty International, the Hong Kong Information Center for Human Rights and Democracy and other human rights organizations."

The 88-page book is a piece by piece dissection of the treatment of Falun Gong at the hands of Jiang Zemin, covering a range of topics from the actual situation in forced labor camps to the widespread use of state-run media to frame-up and demonize Falun Gong in the eyes of the public.

Amidst the information revealed by the author is that the actual death count of Falun Gong practitioners in China is well over 7,000 -- as opposed to the 1,600 figure frequently reported by the Falun Dafa Information Center.

The author also claims to have vast amounts of evidence regarding the persecution of Falun Gong:

"We have a well-established network of handpicked spies working for us from within the confines of the Chinese prisons themselves. They get to see Jiang’s brand of terrorism ‘up close and personal.’ ... we have taken pictures of many of the various torture devices used on Practitioners, as well as their lifeless battered bodies covered in wounds lying on the floors of their cells... we have recordings of private meetings among the guards in which they discuss the strategy of how to deal with the tortured victim’s death, and what ‘story’ they will all agree to give the family when they report this death... When the time is right, this evidence will be made known to the public - hopefully before the 2008 Olympics.

Pretty much the whole world knows that 2 time nobel peace prize nominee Li Hongzhi is not at all what the Chinese Ministry of Propaganda would like the world to believe. While any group has zealots, this one has won nearly 1000 awards and recognition from legislators to mayors worldwide. The ONLY source of negative reports are the blatantly fabricated stories from the Chinese press that include people who do not even exist doing things that are completely fabricated. It is not even a religion. There is no worship of any kind. People simply practice living by the standards of Truth-compassion-Forbearance in their everyday lives. It also includes some slow moving exercises designed to improve health etc. Of course for their own agenda, some people will hang on every word of the Communist Chinese press. They are not even allowed to look at CNN on the internet for fear they learn the truth. It truly beyond the point where any credible western media will carry any of the ridiculous propaganda.

Spiritual Saboteurs
BY MATTHEW FORNEY
Sunday, Jun. 30, 2002

Followers of the Chinese spiritual practice Falun Gong often use high-tech tools to spread their message in China, where the sect is banned. But the group's latest tactic — overriding Chinese satellite Sinosat 1 and replacing its regular programming for 10 minutes last week with fuzzy text reading "Falun Dafa Is Good"--stunned government officials with its sophistication. (Falun Dafa is the name given to the group's beliefs.) To pull off the feat, the activists needed a nearly 30-ft. satellite dish plus about $1 million worth of equipment that would fire a perfectly tuned beam at Sinosat 1. Since two beams on the same frequency yield nothing but static, someone in Beijing had to shut down the official programming to let the illicit message through. The override was not a failure of Sinosat's encryption technology, says Ian Barnard, who runs China operations for the South African firm MIH, provider of the encryption software. So was it inept technicians? Or are there Falun Gong sympathizers somewhere in the state-run broadcasting industry?

US resolution angers Beijing
Friday, 26 July, 2002, 09:55 GMT 10:55 UK

China has reacted angrily to a resolution passed by the US Congress on Wednesday that calls for an end to persecution of members of the Falun Gong spiritual sect.

...The resolution calls for the release of thousands of Falun Gong followers held in jail or in re-education camps and claims the ban on the sect violates the Chinese constitution.

...Beijing's official English-language newspaper, China Daily, said the Chinese Government believed the resolution had been drafted ''with ulterior motives and malicious intent'' and it ''ignores the crimes committed by the cult''.

...Falun Gong was outlawed in 1999 after a mass protest in Tiananmen Square that unnerved leaders.

The sect was banned after a mass protest in Tiananmen Square

The US resolution also demanded China ''put an end to the practices of torture and other cruel, inhumane, and degrading treatment against them and other prisoners of conscience".

This month, Chinese state media denounced what they said was the hijacking in June of nationwide satellite television signals by Falun Gong.

Messages from Falun Gong allegedly cut into broadcasts of the World Cup final for viewers in remote and rural areas.

Asia Pacific Hong Kong Judge Convicts Falun Gong Members for Public Obstruction
Heda Bayron
Hong Kong
15 Aug 2002 09:23 UTC

In Hong Kong, 16 Falun Gong followers have been found guilty of public obstruction during an anti-China protest early this year.

Hong Kong's first trial involving Falun Gong followers ended Thursday with 16 people convicted for causing public obstruction during a protest in March. The defendants, mostly Hong Kong residents, also included four Swiss and a New Zealand citizen.

Nine of the defendants also were convicted of the more serious charge of obstructing the police while three were found guilty of assaulting police officers.

In his ruling, Judge Symon Wong said the defendants were in "open defiance of the laws of Hong Kong" when they blocked public access outside the Chinese government's liaison office in the territory.

The defendants denied disrupting public order while demonstrating against China's crackdown on the group's followers. Police broke up the protest in Hong Kong and a clash erupted.

---Judge Wong said the verdict has nothing to do with the practice of Falun Gong in Hong Kong. He fined all the defendants a few hundred dollars. They faced maximum penalties of $640 in fines and two years in prison.

Beleiving in Falun Gong and Truthfulness, Compassion, and Tolerence has transformed my life in so many positve ways. I used to be hot-headed, quick to anger, quick to blaim others. Reading Falun Gong's book, Zhuan Falun, along with practicing the gentle meditation has helped me take control of my anger, realize that every problem I have in my life is caused by me, not by others. I've taken responsibilty for myself, and life has new meaning. Now I do a better job at work without even trying, because my moral charecter has improved. This practice is not a religion, a cult, or whatever. I've been practicing for a year, and nobody has ever asked me for a dime, asked me to do anything really. Everything I've done for Falun Gong--writing my congressman, teaching the excercises to those who would like to learn--has been completely voluntary. I hope by my words more people can see through the lies spread by a paranoid regime and see the true, peaceful nature of Falun Gong. None of the news from the State-run Chinese papers is true, every single bit about Falun Gong practitioners killing people is fabrication. Ask yourself this: why hasn't it ever happened any where else in the world? There are millions of Falun Gong practitioners in over 30 coutries, yet not one case of a Falun Gong practioner doing any such evil things. Yet thousands of cases in China? How can that be explained? There is only one clear explanation: every bit of news that comes from China is a lie. Don't beleive me? Why don't you read Zhuan Falun For yourself and find out.

Two Falun Gong Practitioners Accused of Killing Maid
Last updated at: (Beijing Time) Monday, August 26, 2002

Two obsessed female Falun Gong practitioners have admitted killing a maid in a hostel in northwest China in a move they described as releasing her soul from purgatory, according to police.

Police in Xianyang city in Shaanxi Province were told about 11 a.m. on March 1 that Mai Xinping, a maid at Hongbin Hostel, had been strangled in a hostel room.

When they went to the hostel south of a coach station on Xilan Road, the police discovered the maid on a bed in Room 210 apparently strangled with a nylon rope.

There were marks on her body to indicate a struggle, according to their report.

The police later concluded two women from Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region who left Room 210 at about 11 a.m. that day were the most likely suspects.

From one of the women's ID code the hostel recorded when she checked in, police learned from their counterparts in Xinjiang she was Lin Chunmei, an obsessed Falun Gong practitioner.

Police did not locate the other woman named Wen Yuping, another obsessed Falun Gong practitioner, until July.

The two women have been arrested by police and confessed they killed the maid to help the victim "enjoy happiness in heaven".

In an interview with Xinhua, the two women who are in police custody said what they had done was "a good thing", and they committed the murder simply to release souls from purgatory.

They also gave the police details of the killing.

They claimed they could talk with their Falun Gong leader, Li Hongzhi, through "voice induction" without meeting face to face.

During their "talks" with Li Hongzhi, they said, Li agreed with their plan to release souls from purgatory, adding they would do something very great in the future, or kill "evil people".

"All those who condemn Falun Gong and Li Hongzhi, and sabotage the Falun Gong are evil people," they said.

Lin Chunmei, 38, who used to be a staff member of the Construction Bank in Xinjiang, began practising Falun Gong in 1998.

Wen Yuping, 42, was sentenced to three years imprisonment with a four-year stay in 2000 on a charge of theft after she was dismissed as a gas station cashier because of financial problems in 1997.

Falun Gong Member Gets Death Penalty

Eight Falun Gong practitioners sentenced to jail for highjacking TV
Source: Associated Press
Publication date: 2002-12-27

BEIJING (AP) -- Eight Falun Gong members have been sentenced to up to 13 years in prison for hijacking local television and radio signals in eastern China's Anhui province to promote the banned spiritual movement, the official Xinhua News Agency said Saturday.

The Hefei Intermediate Court recently upheld a lower court's decision to give the followers sentences of between five to 13 years, Xinhua said.

The Hefei court based its decision on evidence that the eight purchased tools and equipment which helped them take over TV and radio signals at 9 p.m. on May 31 to publicize the movement, Xinhua said, without elaborating.

At least 3,900 households were affected during the 30-minute blackout, during which pirate transmissions touting the benefits of the group were played, Xinhua said.

China has said that such transmissions have ``disrupted the public order'' and go against international communications standards.

***In recent months, Falun Gong members have hacked into local TV feeds and broadcasts.

On Sept. 9, Xinhua reported that signals of a service designed to enable remote villages across the country to see broadcasts from China Central Television, or CCTV, the leading government-run network, were jammed.

Also in September, 15 people were convicted of breaking into a cable television system to show videos protesting China's ban on Falun Gong and were sentenced to up to 20 years in prison.

The March 5 broadcasts in the northeastern city of Changchun and nearby Songyuan marked the start of the hacking campaign.

China Jails 180 Falun Gong Members for SARS Rumors
Reuters
Thursday, June 5, 2003; 8:33 AM

BEIJING (Reuters) - China has detained 180 members of the banned Falun Gong spiritual group for spreading rumors and recruiting new followers amid the SARS epidemic, state radio said on Thursday.

The practitioners were all arrested in the northern province of Hebei, it reported. Police officials were not immediately available for comment.

"They spread doomsday theories in a bid to cause panic in society and claimed that the SARS outbreak in China was a warning to those who persecute and hate the Falun Dafa," it said, using another name for the group.

"They also spread falsehoods that people who practice Falun Gong will not contract SARS in order to try to spread the cult and recruit more followers," it said.

Last night, China’s Xinhua News Agency – the mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party – issued a report about an individual who has been sentenced to death for a number of killings he committed that Xinhua says were “inspired … by Falun Gong.”

This morning, the BBC, CBC and Reuters repeated this report as if Xinhua were a credible source of information on Falun Gong.

The claims put forth by Xinhua in this story follow a pattern of fabricated reports that have – under the orders of former Chinese leader Jiang Zemin – been faithfully churned out by China’s state-run media over the last four-plus years in an attempt to legitimize the persecution against Falun Gong, or at least dull the interest of would-be critics around the world.

Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have called these claims, “unproven,” “bogus” and part of a “massive propaganda campaign,” and they are the exact opposite from how Falun Gong is known around the world. The United States Congress, for example, said in Concurrent Resolution 188, which passed unanimously by a 420-0 vote: “Falun Gong is a peaceful and nonviolent form of personal belief and practice with millions of adherents in China and elsewhere...”

As we saw in the recent decision against two former Rwandan media execs. found guilty of genocide for inciting hatred among the Rwandan people, the media plays an active role in contributing to how people think about, and sometimes act upon, various issues around the world. By issuing reports like this that simply repeat wild, unfounded claims by the Chinese regime, the BBC, CBC and Reuters are inadvertently propagating the very same hate propaganda Jiang Zemin has used for more than four years to turn Chinese people against themselves, and incite them to “help” in the “fight” against Falun Gong. Through this ill-conceived campaign, countless Chinese citizens have been lead into assisting with persecuting their fellow countrymen and women.

Already this morning several Chinese newspapers have picked up the BBC’s report and used it to attack Falun Gong. This in turn can rouse the anger of Chinese people in local communities, inciting more to take part in an already-systematic persecution against Falun Gong: A persecution that has been classified as 'genocide' by a number of the world's leading human rights attorneys, and has resulted in more than a dozen lawsuits around the world against Jiang Zemin and a few other top Chinese leaders.

These issues deserve careful consideration, for when is the responsibility of media to report accurately, fairly and responsibly greater than when it reports on matters that involve the life and death of so many? The people of the world must have the confidence that media companies who are part of the world's free press can bear this burden with integrity and a sense of responsibility for the influence their reports wield.

In the past, those following Jiang Zemin to persecute Falun Gong have often distributed anti-Falun Gong propaganda with a calculated purpose – to divert attention away from horrific crimes against humanity committed against Falun Gong practitioners in China.

In the case of this story, perhaps they are trying to divert the world’s attention away from a breaking news story. That is, the story of a Falun Gong practitioner who had been named in an Amnesty International “Urgent Action,” and who died the day after Christmas after 21 months of torture and abuse in custody. Mr. Chengjun Liu had been sentenced to 19 years in prison for broadcasting programs in China’s northeastern city of Changchun that exposed the atrocities against Falun Gong practitioners in China and the attempts of Jiang Zemin to cover them up.

Findings from Initial Investigation of the Zhejiang Beggar Murder Case
By the World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG)
July 3rd, 2003

On July 2, 2003, the Xinhua News Agency reported from Zhejiang Province an article entitled “Suspect for Poisoning 16 Beggars Is a Falun Gong Member”. The subtitle was “Huge Poison-Murder Case in Zhejiang Province Solved”. The reporter was Lu Jin. This article was released at 17:37:16 Beijing time. The article mentioned a suspect by the name of Chen Fuzhao and claimed that he was a “Falun Gong member.”

The World Organization to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong (WOIPFG) investigated this case. The initial findings are as follows.

The Xinhua News Agency Drew Conclusions of the Case Prematurely, Contradicting the Local Report

The aforementioned July 2 article of the Xinhua News Agency said that the June 26 poison-murder case in Cangnan County, Wenzhou City, was solved “last night.” This conclusion is not consistent with published reports out of Wenzhou City.

On the same day of the Xinhua News Agency’s report, there was a local report published at 10:31:10 a.m. on the “Metropolitan Express” (Du Shi Kuai Bao) newspaper, written by reporter Tang Zewen, who was responsible for local criminal cases. The title of the article was “14 Beggars Die Under Unusual Circumstances in a Month in Longgang”. This report presented more details than the Xinhua News Agency article: “A man on a motorcycle gave a beggar, an old lady, a bottle of spring water. The old lady fell to the ground and died shortly after drinking the water.” “There were earlier major cases of murdering beggars in Lucheng District, Wenzhou City. The police arrested Chen Yongfeng on May 24 and concluded that he killed ten beggars, taking apart nine of the corpses. Between the date of Chen’s arrest and June 26, when seven beggars died, another seven beggars died under unusual circumstances during the same month. So far the police are not clear whether the deaths of these 14 people have anything to do with the case of Chen Yongfeng.” The report also mentioned that the Minister of Public Security Zhou Yongkang and the Secretary of Zhejiang Province issued orders, demanding the police to solve the cases quickly.

When Tang Zewen published the report at 10:31:10 on July 2, the case was not solved yet. However, in the Xinhua News Agency article on July 2, the case was solved “last night,” or July 1. In China, such local criminal cases are usually followed and reported by local media. The Xinhua News Agency reported conclusions before the local media and gave a different version of the report. The local report referred to seven people killed, including six men and one woman, who were all from other areas. Their ages ranged between 50 and 70. This was a typical media report on criminal cases, with details of the victims’ gender, age, and so on. The report by the Xinhua News Agency lacked detail, giving no background or specifics of the case. The article appeared to be more focused on linking the case to Falun Gong than anything else.

Result of the Initial Investigation of WOIPFG: the Case Has Not Been Solved

Department of Propaganda in Cangnan County, Wenzhou City, Location of the Murder Case: A member of the Department told us that the case had not been solved. He has not heard that the suspect was a Falun Gong practitioner. “The local newspaper didn’t report this. More than 500 policemen, many of them are my friends, are still assigned to investigating this case.”

The Radio and TV Broadcasting Bureau in Cangnan County, Wenzhou City: A man working in the Bureau told us that there were no such local reports, nor any reports about the suspect being a Falun Gong practitioner.

The Cangnan County Government: An official at the Cangnan County government, when asked about Chen Fuzhao, told WOIPFG that Chen was a psychiatric patient.

The Ministry of Public Security Highlighted This Case Over Several Similar Cases

There have been several similar murder cases in Longgang Town, Cangnan County, Wenzhou City: the May 24 case and another 7 deaths between May 24 and June 26. However, these cases didn’t get the attention of the provincial government and didn’t receive much media coverage.

After the “Metropolitan Express” reported the attention of the provincial government and the high-ranking officials to the June 26 case, suddenly the case was resolved according to the Xinhua News Agency and the suspect was a Falun Gong practitioner.

After the Xinhua News Agency article was published, many Chinese media outlets carried it. The initial version of this Xinhua News Agency article listed the Tang Zewen report from Wenzhou City as a related report. WOIPFG found this link removed when viewing the web page again at about 11 p.m. Beijing time on July 2.

Conclusion

Based on our initial findings, this appears to be another case of the Xinhua News Agency and high-ranking officials in the Ministry of Public Security framing Falun Gong with murder.

This is all so sad to read. On this New Year day i wish everyone can know the truth about Falun Gong by themselve. Why is there so many lies spread about Falun Gong, this is an important questions you can ask!

Just a few facts:
- Falun Gong teaches Truth Compassion Tolerance
- Many officials around the world have recongnised the goodness of Falun Gong teaching and the people learning it.
- Amnesty international has condemned the false report concerning the self immolation. The self immolation reported by the media have been proven to be staged. http://www.clearwisdom.ca/emh/special_column/self-immolation.html
- The teaching of Falun Gong prohibit Killing others and oneself.
- No money is collected and the practitionners share their practice volontarely with others without expecting anything in return.
- You can download the book Zhuan Falun for free from www.falundafa.org
This book contain the complete teaching of Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa). Part of the teaching is to value life and always think about others first.
- This web site is reporting all the lies being spread by China's government to defame Falun Gong and to justify their persecution to the world. If they can stage a self immolation, it is also easy for them to make up horrible news such as the ones we can read on this page. The persecution of Falun Gong has violated all 33 articles of the human ritgh chart as well as China own constition.

I sincerely hope you can see through those lies and not be deceived.

Dear people,
How anyone could print such lies and deception about a teaching so true and pure as Falun Dafa just shows how low the morality of human-beings have fallen. I am a Falun Dafa practioner, and have become a better person each day because I live my life by the great law of the Universe, Truthfullness-Compassion-forbearance. If we all followed these truths this world would be a better place for future generations.
I hope these people reconsider these lies, and realize they are damaging not only the truth in others eyes but their own.

Please NEVER believe the Communist Chinese Government ‘s propaganda against Falun Gong! The people.com.cn and the xinhuanet.com are both the communist China’s official media. Do you still remember the cover-up of the SARS by the Chinese Communist? They don’t care about the life of people at all. Do you know that thousands of Christians and Tibetan monks are labeled as “evil cult” too? Who are the most evil cults that have killed millions of innocent people? You should know about it: the communist party of China and the National Socialist German Workers Party (NSDAP, later nicknamed the Nazi Party), which share very similar brutal characteristics towards innocent people.
