The central CORE doctrine of the Watchtower, the reason they came into existence was to proclaim Jesus Christ second coming in 1914.They will now deny that they ever made this claim, that's called BAIT AND SWITCH

The Watchtower is BIG money, being one of the top 40 New York City Corporations making nearly one billion dollars a year. That’s just from one of their many corporations. They pay no municipal taxes on their buildings, without even one charity to compensate the community.

Most Church's don't pay taxes either, but most mainstream churches are abundant in humanitarian charities.Think if you have ever seen a Jehovah Witness food pantry or soup kitchen for the needy?

For 50 plus years the masthead of the Watchtower, viewed when you opened up to the inside front cover would read as follows:

"This magazine(Watchtower) builds up confidence in the Creators PROMISE of a peaceful and secure "new world" before the generation "that witnessed" the EVENTS OF 1914 passes away"".
By their own admission the Watchtowers has published this dogma in hundreds of millions of pieces of their own literature.

They deleted this false adventist millerite derived prophecy in 1995 because it had FAILED.

The Watchtower leadership has "purged" hundreds of thousands of followers over the years for failing to uphold the 1914 (Jesus came to power) loyalty oath to this now defunct dogma.

The Bible clearly warns to turn away from false prophets.

--------

Jehovah's Witnesses and "persecution".

UNLIKE in the case of Christians who are persecuted in other lands for talking about Jesus Christ, Jehovah’s Witnesses are largely persecuted for following the teachings begun during the second presidency of the Watchtower, when Joseph F. Rutherford took over in a corporate flap and began changing doctrines quickly in the Watchtower belief system.

He claimed that angels directly conveyed “truth” to some of those in leadership. He coined the name “Jehovah’s Witnesses” to make them stand out from being witnesses of Jesus, a typical evangelical expression (and a Biblical one).

Rutherford dumped holidays, birthdays and the 1874 date for the invisible return on Christ, and INVENTED an “earthly class” of Witnesses, since only 144,000 can go to heaven in their teaching. The rest, meaning all 99.9% of Witnesses still alive, will live forever on a cleansed earth, under the rule of the Watchtower leaders in heaven, who will keep them in line by local elders known as “Princes.”

If you have been “witnessed to” by Jehovah’s Witnesses and you reject their message, you will likely die “shortly” at Armageddon with all the other non-Witnesses, since theirs is the ONLY TRUE religion, and (if they can live up to all the rules) they are the only ones to inhabit this “new earth.”

To even vocally question the teachings of the Watchtower will result in complete cutting off, with family and friends usually being forbidden to talk to them.

The Watchtower is a truly Orwellian world, in a time when Orwellian societies are nearly obsolete.

Witnesses are shrinking in number in many Western countries,as the INTERNET facilitates the spread of information, much of it critical of the Witnesses.

The Watchtower strives hard to control the flow of information to the individual Witness, and prefers that all instruction come through the magazines they carry door-to-door. Without this form of control, even as they themselves admit, they would believe just the same as other Bible believers.

Watchtower 'creed of greed' Jehovah Witnesses fleece the flock.

Cave of Robbers!

by Towerwatcher}

Properties owned by the Watchtower Society are massive, yet more and more contributions are expected from Jehovah's Witnesses, no matter what kind of financial strains they may be experiencing themselves as working parents, teens, or adults.

by Towerwatcher

The Governing Body of Jehovah's Witnesses likes to pride itself by claiming to be the sole channel for dispensing spiritual food at the proper time to some six million of their faithful members. The Watchtower journal of /1967/Oct/1st/page-590/ states: "Jehovah's Witnesses (must) recognize and accept this appointment of the "faithful and discreet slave" and be submissive to it." This quote is (not) a request, it is a command, and this command has a habit of faithfully and discreetly reaching down into the financial pockets of these six million submissive members.

Properties owned by the Watchtower Society are massive, yet more and more contributions are expected from Jehovah's Witnesses, no matter what kind of financial strains they may be experiencing themselves as working parents, teens, or adults.

The Watchtower has admitted itself that it does (not) view it's thousands of Kingdom Halls, as well as skyscraping facilities in the same way as the ancient Israelites viewed the temple of Jehovah. Strangely enough, neither did those cave of robbers of Jesus' day that He drove away from the temple!

The Israelites viewed Jehovah's temple with some sacredness and respect, while the Watchtower buys, sells, and rakes in the profits with no conscience necessary. The Watchtower Society's Kingdom Ministry of /1985/April/page-3/ states: "Although we do not view Kingdom Halls in the same way that the tabernacle and the temple of Jehovah were viewed in ancient Israel, it is appropriate to give thought to the historical accounts that highlight the (spirit of giving) manifested by Jehovah's worshipers during the time of those building projects long ago."

One may ask, however, just how far does the Watchtower apply those words above which describe this spirit of giving? Perhaps what the Watchtower leaders mean by those words is that this "discreet slave" will supply all the (spirit), and their members are to supply all the financial giving! Painfully though, the members may be required to give until it hurts. Did the ancient worshipers of Jehovah (require) the lavish settings and surroundings?

One of the main questions people around the globe are asking is, why would an organization who have reminded us several times that Armageddon is just around the corner, be building such massive building projects if these buildings will only meet their fate here in the near future?

Certainly, the actions of the Watchtower Society do (not) display a relationship, with the claims they have published in their own literature about the closeness of time of the end. In 2005 while all of these building plans were taking place on schematics in the hands of this "faithful and discreet slave," the same year's 2005 "Awake!" read on page 4 the following: "Most important, this magazine builds confidence in the Creator's promise of a peaceful and secure (new world that is about to replace the present wicked, lawless system of things.)

I had no other choice but to conclude, that either the information contained in the "Awake!" published by Jehovah's Witnesses reeked with an odor, or that the Watchtower's "faithful slave" thought that these massive and expensive buildings, would serve as protecting Arks as in Noah's day to help save the lives of all the believers. I guess this "faithful slave" forgot that even Noah's Ark acquired a (smell) after awhile!

One fact remains clear any way you consider it, and that fact is, the Watchtower is getting rich off the gold wedding rings, valuables, cash donations, gifts, wills, insurance claims, untaxed interest, as well as so-called disaster relief contributions for Worldwide work that rarely fulfills the victims needs. Perhaps the members "gold teeth" will be "faithfully and discreetly" required next!

In searching for an applicable scripture to conclude my findings, I managed to find one of the Jehovah's Witnesses Bibles at the local library which read at Matthew 21: 13 "And he said to them: "It is written, "My house will be called a house of prayer, but you are making it a CAVE of ROBBERS." Yes, when I applied that scripture to the Watchtower Society, as surprising as it may seem, it occurred to me that I actually found an unaltered true statement in the New World Translation!

Funny Story:

Witness elder and his young wife show up at my door, and I invite them in, sit them down at the dining room table and get out the bundt cake and the iced tea (I use cookies and milk for the Mormon missionaries). I don't tell them this, but my goal is to keep them talking for as long as possible so that they can't go knocking on anyone else's door.

After about forty-five minutes of small talk--and my announcement that I *LOVE* to talk about GOD--they start showing me their literature (the "Knowledge" book and a couple issues of the mags) and ask if I've ever read any Witness literature before.

"Well, possibly," is my answer. "I have a couple of books that maybe you know. Did your religion get started by a guy named Russell?" Broad smiles and energetic head nods...

"Wait right here and I'll go get my books...."

So I leave this couple in the dining room talking about the picture of Jesus on the wall (trying to figure out what religion I am, and not realising I can hear every word from upstairs...) for about fifteen minutes...Only to return with a 1917 copy of Russell's posthumous "The Finished Mystery" and Rutherford's 1932 book "Preservation".

"Do you know these books?" I ask. Both of their faces turn white as I say, "I love these. They were passed on to me ages ago by an elderly lady who had me help her clean out an attic. I love old books, but I especially like those that talk about the Second Coming. Tell me, do you believe...[quoting a long list of snippets from "Mystery"--everything from the date of Armageddon to the "fact" that Russell a prophet is like Elijah and the greatest apostle since Paul.]..."

The elder finally jumps in on my Q&A litany and tells me that, unfortunately, Russell was wrong about many things and the "friends" don't use his books anymore because Jehovah has revealed new light, yada, yada, yada..."

"But," I interrupt, picking up "Preservation", "this one is by a different man and look what it says."

And right there on page 104 is:

" God has, however, graciously provided a means of communication among the remnant. For years he has used "The Watchtower" as such a means of communication, and it's columns are constantly used in an effort to give forth the truth to the remnant. It is not man's truth, but it is God's truth; and therefore the channel or instrument is God's, not man's..."

So tell me, Elder, if God does not change, then why does His truth?"

Suddenly, they had an appointment to go off to, and they never came back to answer my question. And every time those two see me in a public place, both their faces turn beet red and they make a quick exit. But others show up at my door all the same.

Not all the warnings are heeded.

pointlessshrew , Good one. God's Truth Never changes.
The problem is that the jw's add or take away stuff to suit their own purpose. They tell people that they are not a cult because a cult follows an earthly man as their leader while they follow Jesus as their leader but in fact they follow Russell who started this religion & Russell got the idea from the millerites. The Millerite tradition is a diverse family of denominations and Bible study movements that have arisen since the middle of the 19th century, traceable to the Adventist movement sparked by the apocalyptic teachings of William Miller.

Oh, yes, Marilyn, I am well acquainted with this argument. If the elder and his wife had gone running off in a panic I would have had more than ample opportunity to work around this.

However, I was later told that they went back to the KH and it was announced that there was a new "dangerous opposer" in their midst who collects old Watchtower books. Unfortunately, for them, what ended up happening was that instead of putting the fear of annihilation into the congregation, for some it only piqued their interest. And so the work goes on, unabated...

It is good to take note, however, of all the many objections that Witnesses will use to try to steer an objection that are not given in any of the literature...

BTW: I love your writing, Marilyn. Are you the same Marilyn asociated with 1-800-WHY-1914, or someone else? If you are her, you have been great help to me over the years--I hand your cards out all over the place.

Hey Marilyn:

Sorry for the delay in answering--I've been busy with World Youth Day stuff the past week or so.

At any rate...no, it doesn't change my mind at all that you are not the same Marilyn. In fact, I love your stories--they only prove what I tell Witnesses all the time: the exacting requirements of the WTS are impossible to keep, even for the most faithful Witness.

And, no, I was never a Witness myself. I've been studying their history and literature for about six or seven years now, and work as a cult exit counselor to bring them out of the WT to Jesus Christ, among others.

I've written my history with them in some of the other threads here.

Glad you're back!

Hey to All

We used to get a lot of 'door to door' salesman for the JW's. We would pretend not to be home, even go as far as to call neighbours and warn them that the JW were comming to their door soon

Then I became a BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN

Two Jehova's Witness' came a callin, when I was at work one day and they left a couple of mag's.

A few days after I read their material, they came calling again.

As soon as I saw who it was (by the mag's in their hands) I was rather sharp with them

I said "Not interested" and slammed the door in their faces.

Now, I was new to FAITH and quickly realized that I was sharp with them, and I wanted to appologize

I ran out the door and caught up to them at the bottom of my driveway

I said" I'm sorry , I didn't mean to be rude, however I beleive in Jesus Christ.."

One quickly answered, "we beleive in Jesus!"

I answered back, "Yes, but I beleive in Jesus Christ as God!"

They did not answer me, just walked away, got in their car and drove off.

The JW's use to come around every couple of weeks.

I havn't seen any in well over a year now.

Folks must be ready to hear the Word, not forced at the door (usually during dinner). Especially when the Word they are promoting is not the TRUTH

Peace and Love to all who seek the Lord
In Jesus name

Hi sharon , I just now read you reply.
I have not been on this board for sometime now.
I left you an other message in the same place,
see you there.

pointlessshrew,That's interesting, but to truly understand how jw's operate on a emotional level it really helps to have been one.
( please don't be offended, that was not my intention)I'm sure your studies have been very productive I'm only saying that there is no teacher greater than experience it's self.
I have no ill will towards jw's as a society, I'm sure that many of them think they are doing the right thing as I did at one time,
but there are a few that I have singled out in my own mind as not being true Christians & that is part of why I left. When ever they faulted I was reminded that they were only human but when I made mistakes I was told that I was not pleasing Jehovah & had the Bible shook in my face.
my main objective in that religion was to study the Bible , follow Jesus’ examples & teach it to others, not become too wrapped up in the watchtower, after all the religion is called"Jehovah's Witnesses" not " The watchtower"
I find when people do concentrate more on the watchtower & less on the Bible then onlookers seem to get the idea that the watchtower is the religion.
Maybe that has something to do with why I'm not there now, because I know that a large part of jw's live & die by the watchtower because they are told that it come from the main society in N.Y.
I still have one adult child & grandchildren in the jw's & I do not see them hardly at all,
partly because our life styles are so different & they are bitter with me for leaving & part because because my son's wife is a highly emotional hypocrite. I have chosen to wait until my grandchildren are old enough to seek me out on their own then I will tell them some real truths.
That's one of the advantages to getting older, you learn patients & I believe time really is on my side in this case.

"Out of the Cocoon"-A Young Woman's Courageous Flight from the Grip of a Religious Cult"

Brenda Lee’s heart-wrenching, yet inspiring tale about her battle to escape from the Watchtower Jehovah Witness after enduring years of dysfunction and abuse.

The author begins by reliving the innocence of childhood as she nostalgically transports you back in time to a 100-year-old farm in rural Pennsylvania, where she filled her carefree days by swinging from vines, raising farm animals as pets, romping through the forests, and plunging from the hayloft. Once “The Friends” knock on the door, however, Brenda Lee’s childhood and innocence dramatically disappear.

But the author refuses to become a victim and, like a butterfly, she learns to change the world within her when her external world becomes unbearable. After surviving years of stifling oppression and isolation, she emerges from her cocoon and learns some startling things about her family, this “wicked world,” and herself. In time, she learns to forgive not only those who tormented her, but also the mother who disowned her.

Anyone who has experienced abuse, alcoholism, single parenthood, depression, or a parent’s rejection will identify with the author’s remarkable journey. Get out the tissues, because in one minute you will cry and in the next you will laugh aloud. Let Brenda Lee take you from the depths of despair to the highest mountain, cast you off, and show you how to spread your wings and fly.

WHY-Jehovah's Witnesses don't do Christmas
I was born Jehovah's Witness 1957 3rd generation.Yes,we didn't celebrate Christmas.

The reason JW's don't do Christmas is because their Watchtower leaders say so,the holiday has pagan aspects to it and by rejecting it the Watchtower appears "pure".

This "demand for purity" is one of the 8 marks of a cult.NOW the Watchtower can use this purity diversion to distract from their own immoral practices.--Danny Haszard http://www.dannyhaszard.com

Interestingly, They will not celebrate Christmas due to the pagan roots. Yet, at every JW wedding, the bridesmaids all dree the same.

That also has pagan roots.

Baby Found Dead In Yard
Slaying Result Of Possible Religious Sacrifice

POSTED: 4:47 pm EDT April 28, 2006

A 9-month-old boy who was found dead in a neighborhood on Detroit's eastside Friday morning, may have been killed as a form of religious sacrifice.
According to police, Raphael Thomas and his live-in girlfriend, Betty Jenkins, were involved in a Bible study in their Detroit home when Thomas and his girlfriend began to argue.

The two exchanged words and Thomas grabbed hold of a can of red spray paint and wrote the word "revelations" on the walls throughout the home. He tossed his Bible outside along with other items that may be linked to a Jehovah Witness, according to police.

Thomas then grabbed his son and left the home, Local 4 reported.
Jenkins phoned police, but help didn't come in time. Thomas was found walking along Gratiot Avenue in Detroit stabbing himself. He inflicted more than 30 knife wounds on his body, according to police.

The baby was not with Thomas, but was found dead a short time after in the back yard of a home. Police said the baby had been mutilated from the inside out.
Thomas told police he freed his baby from the evils of the earth, leading investigators to believe the slaying of the baby was a form of religious sacrifice.

The man was taken to Detroit Receiving Hospital and treated with nearly 200 stitches. He remains in the psychiatric ward of the hospital.
Police said they didn't receive the 911 call until about 2:20 a.m., but a neighbor of the family said he phoned police at 10:30 p.m.

The child's mother is not in custody and not involved in the death of the baby.
The father is facing charges of murder.
Police continue to investigate, and the issue of the 911 call remains uncertain.
