Here is my most updated list on the cost of Scientology. Most of these people died trying to "shoo away" their medical problems with Scientology "tech". A large number of them committed suicide. Statistically this list should only contain two suicides; it contains about forty. If anyone has any corrections and/or additions, please post them. 1. Oscar A. – suicide. Hanged self on 9/21/87. Member of Brescia, Italy Org. 2. Michael Adams, 49 - ? in 2002. 3. Konrad Aigner - Multiple organ failure, coma & death during the Purification Rundown, Aug 11,1997. 4. Maria de Rosario Almeida - murdered. Shot at a Lisbon, Portugal Org, by a non Scientologist, in 1994. 5. Goran Andersson - suicide, by hanging. 6. Christopher Arbuckle - ? 7. David Baker - Suicide at East Grinstead, 1984. 8. Faith Banks, 71 - ? in 2001. 9. Peggy Bankston - ? 10. Flo Barnett - “suicide”. She was David Miscavige’s mother-in-law, and after an argument with him, she threatened to sue Scientology. Officially listed as a suicide, she was shot 3 times in the chest and once in the head, Sept 8, 1985. 11. Greg Bashaw - suicide in 2001. 12. Arthur Beals - murdered by his son who was a Scientologist, on March 5, 1989. 13. Louie Belucci - diabetes. 14. Ellie Blankenship - cancer. 15. Jens Bogvad - ? 16. Marie Bolt, 48 – Car accident, Apr 16, 2003. Buffalo NY. 17. Michael Bonnin - ? 18. Bob Borowsky – suicide. Shot himself around 1977. 19. Jim Bostrom, 44 - ? 20. Gabriella Bramucci - cancer. 21. John Breedlove - ? 22. Ed Brewer - He bled to death after a car wreck. The Scientologists that were in the car with him fled the scene of the accident and left him to die. They didn’t want bad publicity to embarrass their church. 23. Lila Leighten Brown - suicide in San Francisco, 1978. 24. Melanie Bruemmer - cancer. 25. John Buchanan - suicide, to escape his debts to Scientology, in May 1994. 26. Enid Byrne – cancer. 27. Caspar C.- suicide in 1996. 28. Alice Miller C.- cancer, in Cincinnati, 1998. 29. Pat Caid - ? 30. Ellen Carder - ? 31. Mark Carlton - suicide, jumped off of the Aurora Bridge in Seattle, about 1978. 32. David E. Cary – Murdered by his wife in 1951. Both were early followers of Dianetics. (see next entry). 33. Helen Cary – Suicide in 1951. After she murdered her husband, she killed herself. (see previous entry) 34. Maude Casissu - suicide. 35. Sally Esterman Chaleff - cancer. 36. Barbara Clarke - cancer. 37. David Cloud - car accident June 5, 1983. 38. Clint Coleman, 14 – Hit by car in 2003. 39. Diane Colletto - murdered by her Scientologist husband. 40. Richard Colletto - suicide. After killing his wife. Was an OT 3. 41. Richard Collins - suicide. Larrayne Johnston - 92. Lee Johnstone - suicide at East Grinstead, 1985. Was GO staff member. 93. Fenton Jones, 88 - ? in 2000. 94. Bo Jonsson - suicide. 95. Allen Kapular - cancer, in 1991. 96. Pius Keel - suicide in Germany in 1991, jumped under a train. 97. Jim Keith, 49 - ? Near Reno, NV in 1999. May have been an ex-member. 98. John Kennedy - “accident” in Rhodesia, 1966. Had a falling out with local Scientologists, and was attempting to form a rival group. His death was considered a gun-cleaning mishap. 99. Jane King - murdered in 1977. Was the 7th victim of serial killer duo known as the Hillside Stranglers. 100. Keith Klein - suicide. Around 1978. Was OT3. 101. Wendy Kretz - cancer. 102. Marie-Louise Krusell - possibly caused by long term effects of drugs and alcohol. 103. Andre LaChambre, 45 - ? in 2002. 104. Scott Leland - 105. Michael Leube - suicide, July 1989. 106. Paolo Lionini - cancer, about 1982. 107. Noah Lottick - suicide in New York, May 11 1990. 108. Mickey Luell - influenza. 109. Gerard M.- suicide. Froze himself to death in France. 110. Mario M. – suicide. Hanged self on Jan. 1, 1988. Was member of Turin, Italy Org. Lost all his money to Scientology. 111. Wilhelm Mack - suicide, hung himself. 112. Phoebe Mauerer – 113. Terry McMahon – heart disease. 114. Joy McBride - drowned. Accident or suicide? 115. Terry McCann - Death during, or related to the Purification Rundown.??? 116. Mike McGee - ? or maybe McKee? cancer? 117. Lisa McPherson - Died of dehydration and malnourishment after being held against her will 17 days at Ft Harrison Hotel, undergoing the Introspection Rundown, on Dec. 5, 1995. 118. Sandra Meirsdorf – 119. Susan Meister - “suicide” in 1971. Shot herself while on board the ship Apollo 120. Alan Meredith - suicide in Van Nuys, California in 1986. 121. Bob Mills - suicide in April, 1989. 122. --- Miscavige - suicide. Was David Miscavige’s sister. She was an OT 7. First name unknown. 123. Ed Mooney - aneurism in 1990. Was an OT8. 124. Diane Morrison - cancer. 125. Khushroo Motivala - suicide. Was not a Scientologist, but his girlfriend was, and he was so terrified of them that he killed himself. 126. Stacey Meyer - electrocuted at Golden Era, in 2000. 127. Roger Nind – 128. Marie Nollenberger, 95 - ? in 2002. 129. Mats Norryd - cancer 130. Jaime Lee Nureyev- “accident”. Was run over just before she was going to testify against Scientology. 131. Robert Oakes- 132. Steve O’Hara - cancer, in Salt Lake City. 133. Andreas Ostertag - drowned. Accident or suicide? 134. Louie Pagliaro- murdered in Las Vegas. He demanded that Scientology refund his $100,000 or else he would expose the OT levels. He had spent a fortune trying to use his OT Powers to win at gambling. He was found chopped to pieces in his home soon after. He was an OT3. 135. Marla Panda - cancer, in 1985. 136. Daphne Parselle- 137. Marie Passmore- 138. Randy Patterson - suicide, by gunshot. 139. Elli Perkins, 54 – murdered. Her son, who was also a Scientologist, stabbed her 77 times, on Mar. 13, 2003 in Buffalo, New York. 140. Dan Perz, 50 - ? in 2003. 141. There are more that are not on this list, too. I know of three young men who killed themselves, however until their parents put their names out publically, I don't think it's right to do so. Philip Gayle, for example, I knew. His friends, (Non-Scientologists from MIT) put up a Web site in honor of Phillip, and God bless them for that. Sadly, Scientologists are drilled into silence. Because they are people's kids, I don't feel it is up to me to enter their names. I'm sure there are more adults, too, that have not yet been made public. I can think of a few, right off. Does anyone know the C/S's name who was murdered (who sold Jewelry?) Also, Karen ? (OT 5) died of Cancer. Number 80: Andrea you can put "Andy" as that's how she was known, and she was Ken Hoden's wife-died of aneurism I was told. Again, someone who died very young. Jeeesh, it's so sad to read all these names, it really is. The value of posting a list like this is to show how many Scientologists die, and often at very young ages. May they all rest in peace. In addition to the outright murders and suicides, there are several instances of children killing parents and husband/wife murder-suicides. Ghastly and sad. And many cancer deaths. How many are from asbestos and how many were cancer cases preyed on by Scientology's snake oil salesmen, I don't know, but I do know it's a clear statement that Scientology doesn't work. | ||

What an unbelievable memory to recall people looking down on me, due to a similar physical condition I had. I have to say I have a lot more compassion for many kinds of people, due to going through all of that. That was the only good thing from that abuse. To anyone reading this, IF you have any kind of physical condition, and you are a Scientologist, please listen to your Dr. I challenged RTC re medicine, and they actually wrote a Senior C/S Int Bulliton saying you have a right to take your medication, if your Dr. says so, and you need it. They also "Crammed" (Corrected) the ENTIRE Flag Land Base technical Team re this totally out tech thinking that was and no doubt still exists in various areas. Magoo, I thought of your story, being denied meds with the epilepsy when I read that. How utterly sad this is, a shame that teachings deny wellness. Felt for a long time that you were very lucky, and feel you know it more now than ever. You may have had better support, a family member, to see that you needed the meds. Others do not have any support, they are disconnected, or totally surrounded by people who uphold Hubbard teachings more than a responsibility and concern for a fellow human being. Thank you, me too! I do know exactly how it feels to be surrounded by people telling you one thing, as another says differently. It was a blessing my Mother spoke out, and that she stayed on it, no matter what. It's a great lesson for parents, as I very well could have been on the death list, had she given up, decided there was "nothing she could do" or the skillion other reasons they try to instill in people. Yes, I was lucky, and I still consider myself both lucky, and blessed. My mother, Jaime Lee Nureyev, was going to speak at an Multiple Scleroris meeting when she was accidently hit by a car. It has NOTHING to do with Scientology, which she did abhore! However, my mom was going to park at the Roxy to speak about overcoming the symptoms of MS, and was told that the valet lot was full and she'd have to park across the street, so she did. She was hit while crossing the street. Sorry to disappoint, but what was posted just wasn't the case this time. | ||

Zaphod posted a list of people who either died because they didn't see a doctor or else committed suicide. How many of the people listed were in the Sea Org? I ask this because it seems that when someone becomes ill, the staff in the Sea Org take the responsibilty of their care and make some very poor decisions about their well being. A while back (about two months) a person in the RPF told me that Sea Org members were NOT SCIENTOLOGISTS - they delivered the tech, but this person did not consider themself a Scientologist. What do you supposed this person meant? If they are not scientologists, why would they not get these people they are watching over the proper care? The memeber has held many very high posts in the Sea Org - but did not go up too high with the levels. Maybe only to Level II. Can anyone who has been in the org enlighten me? Moonbeam | ||

While I'm not a scientologist, and have no interest in joining, I do know a few people who either practice scientology teachings, and/or are members of the CofS. There are many things about scientology that I will never understand, and perhaps that is best; but what remains a question for me is this: That is: Why is scientology so against psychiatric drugs, when it's founder and 'leader', Ron Hubbard, lived his life dependant upon them? In the post-mortem following L.Ron Hubbard's death, the psychiatric drug Vistaril (was found in his system in large quantities. This suggests that vistaril is not something he had just begun to take, but rather, had been taking for years, to have such a high concentration of it remaining in his system). VISTARIL® (hydroxyzine hydrochloride) Intramuscular Solution is useful in treating the following type of patients when intramuscular administration is indicated: (1)The acutely disturbed or hysterical patient. (2)The acute or chronic alcoholic with anxiety withdrawal symptoms or delirium tremens. As pre- and postoperative and pre- and postpartum adjunctive medication to permit reduction in narcotic dosage, allay anxiety and control emesis. In addition, it has been shown that Hubbard knew he needed help, and on more than one occasion, pled with the veteran's administration, for the psychiatric drugs that Scientolgists so abhor. Not trying to incite a riot, but certainly, I see some hypocrisy in the teachings of Scientology. Any thoughts on this? | ||
